NATIONAL SCHOOLS’ REGATTA
Annual Report 2023
The 76th National Schools’ Regatta ran with a full programme of events. There were a total of 967 crews from 152 schools and clubs, which related to 5043 competitors, 2248 in the Girls events and 2795 in the Open events. The weather was kind, though with a cross-wind, so enabling three days of exciting racing, the Friday was particularly affected by the wind so prolonging the racing timetable.
Spectator numbers were up on last year’s levels and it was good to see the school/club marquees being packed out providing that focal point for the supporters and athletes alike.
The Regatta managed to make up some of the shortfall from the previous pandemic years, and have had several request for funds and have made grants to seven schools and clubs and two charities, amounts varying form £300 to £9,000, a total of £25,192.
The Regatta is actively seeking out more potential projects that promote the sport amongst Juniors.
I stepped down from the Chairmanship after the Regatta and handed over to Michael Martin who brings a wealth of experience to the role and I wish him and the rest of the Committee the very best for the years to come.
