Section D Achievements and performance Summary of the maln achievements of the charity during the yoar The year 2020 was for Rowantree Choir- as for so many other organisations- most unusual. To borrow a phrase from Govemment sources- it was'UNPRECEDENTED'. The year began as usual in January, with members retuming to rehearsals in the Hall in Wellington Road, k)oking forward to mastering 'The Messiah, for our Easter Concert. Before long there were rumblings a￿ut a new Virus. that appeared to be spreading throughout Europe and by March, the Committee decHded unanimously that there would be no Concert and that member fr￿tIng5 would have to cease. Our final session - Tuesday 17 March 2020- served onty to allow the collection of scores and to bid farewell and 'Stay Safe, to members. By the following week, the Govemment had announced a nationwide I￿kdOWn and we were all cooped up at home. After the Easter'holiday. period. we began to consider what, rf anything. we could do to keep the choir'alive. and after some discussion belween our Musical Director and a small Finance sutpcommittee we decided that we would pay full fees for the Spring Term to tM)th the Music Director and our Accompanist and in addrtion make some payment to both for the Summer Term as their sources of income were disappearing. We also contacted the membership to a￿rtain if any who had paid fees for the whole year (to December 2020) wanted money refunded. Grattfying many refused this offer. For those Ihal paid lemily the option to miss payments for an 'inactNe' temi was alwdy in place in our constf(ution. Commtttee business at this had to te conducted via email and phone calls. Earty in 2020 the cts)ir had agreed that volunteers woukl intervivrfl members atK)ut thar choir experiences to be used to supp)rt a planned bid to the Herrtage Lottery. Although the idea of the had to b8 shelved when the Lottery announced they were suspendin9 all such projecls, members continued to intervw4 Others over the phone, record their responses and send them to Iwo members, who were to coordinate the reSu￿S in the hope that the project might be resurr¥ted al some point in the future. By the end of Awil one of our members offered to set up a Zoorn Qu¥z session to help us stay in touch and this was well supported once members karned to cope with this new medium. By mid-may this regular 'meeting' was transforTr￿d with the cooperation of the Musical Director into a 'Singing Session. plus Quiz and members joined in lo sing some of our'Repertoire' pieces. This qU￿kty develoFed into a session where the Music Director introduced members to new pieces to learn and - for those able to deal with the technow - to record. so that he could compile performances ele¢tronicalty. These sessions regulaty attracted around 40+ members. ahhough some ￿￿rntsers, whilst remaining loyal to the choir, dec￿ed they either could not cope with the technology or preferred to Wart until they coukl sing wth others as usual. Using Zoom. the Committee was able to hokl meetings to discuss our plans for the rest of the year from June orwiards and to communicate these to the member5 Vba News￿tters. Since the AGM for the previous year- wh￿h should have been held in March 2020- was bng overdue, also produced the required dtrumentation (Finance Report with audited accounts - and Chai¢s Repryl etcl and these were circulated to all members. Wrttten uestions and comments were invited and Marth 2012 TAR

Section D Achievements and performance considered and then al a Zoom ffleeling the membership voted lo adopt these ￿p)rtS of the Choirfs activrtw for the period from September 2018 to December 2019 and submrt them to the Charities Commissh)n as required. After a 'summer break. in August. when restrictions to ovr lives were sornewhat lifted, Zoom rehearsals resumed in September. The committee decided thal those who partKipated in Zoom rehearsals should pay their temity subscription as nomial and we would continue to pay the Musical Director an agreed fee for the tem. As School pupils and fOre￿n holklay makws rfumed, Covid cases started to rise again, and the Govemment imFosed 'TErf restriction$ and then in November another full Icckdown, but we camed on singingl The Music Director was very keen to build up a programme of pieces on Ihe theme'Have you Ever Been in Love?. which woukl have been our Summer cortert and so rn0￿ songs were added to the repertoi￿. In addrlion some 'Christmas' MUS￿ was also included with the aim of prc>Jucing a 'ZoLMn Concert, of seasonal songs in December, in conjunCt￿n wrth the other choirs Working with our Musical Director. This Concert took place in December and was well supported by members and friends. It provided a cheering end to whal had been a most drfficu year for RowaDtree Choir. In conclusion, thanks musl go to our Musical Director, Jonathan Rathbone. for all the hard work put into enabling members to continue learning new musr throughout rmst of 2020 and for his unfailing enthusiasm and positivrty. Thanks must also go to all the Committee members, who provided great support to the whok Choir, attending Zcrt)rn meetings and keeping in louch with the WKler membership. When restrictKJns pernrtted, Committee rrembers undertook visils to Churches which might act as new rehearsal venues when nomality resumed. as the Hall in wellingt￿ Road was no longer available - and was also too small to allty4V for social distancing. Other Committee members Undert[￿ to draft Risk Assessrrtnts, which woukl be r￿ul￿d rf or vthen face to f&e rehearsals we permitted. TAR Marth 1012

Independent Examiner’s Report on the Accounts

Report to the trustees of The Rowantree Choir on the accounts for the period ended 31 December 2020.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner

The charity’s trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts. The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year under section 144 of the Charities Act 2011 and that an independent examination is needed.

It is my responsibility to:

Basis of independent examiner’s statement

My examination was carried out in accordance with general Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a ‘true and fair’ view and the report is limited to those matters set out in statement below.

Independent examiner’s statement

In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention:
