This This has has huge huge benefits benefits as as it it ensures ensures that that our our users users know know that that our our Trustees Trustees have have a a strong strong understanding understanding of of member's member’s needs needs and and will will respond respond[to] to their their feedback. feedback. We We continue continue actively[actively][to] to seek seek Trustees Trustees[for] for[specific] specific[key] key[roles] roles on on[the] the Board. Board. We We are are[currently] currently seeking seeking[a] a new new Chair Chair[of] of[ the] the Trustees. Trustees.

> 2024 2024 has has been been a a special special year year[for] for us, us, a a year year[in] in which which we we celebrated[celebrated] our our[fortieth] fortieth anniversary.[anniversary.][We] We[held] held our our 

> Summer Summer Fair, Fair,[a] a landmark landmark event event[for] for[the] the[local] local[community.] community.[This] This went went extremely[extremely][ well,] well, and[and][it] it was was[lovely] lovely[to] to[see] see so[so] 

> many many[happy] happy[faces] faces on[on][the] the[day.] day, enthused[enthused][by] by[the] the warm warm[weather,] weather, stalls, stalls, bands bands and and dog dog show. show. The The Fair Fair gave gave us us a a 

> good good[level] level of of exposure exposure and and helped helped us us bond bond with with[local] local[businesses.] businesses. There[There] was was much much support support[and] and good[good] will will[from] from our our[local] local community,[community,][and] and[it] it[also] also[worked] worked[well] well[as] as[an] an MS[MS][awareness-raising] awareness-raising exercise.[exercise.] 

> We We[also] also held held a a[special] special drinks drinks[evening] evening[in] in the[the] Autumn Autumn[for] for members members[and] and local[local] dignitaries dignitaries[with] with[a] a members’ members'[jazz] jazz 

> band band playing playing to to mark mark the the occasion occasion and and speeches speeches on on our our Past, Past, Present Present and and[Future.] Future. Representatives Representatives from from the[the] breadthof breadth of East East and and West West Sussex Sussex came came[to] to celebrate.[celebrate.] 

> We We[began] began the the year year by by receiving receiving as as a a surprise surprise randomly randomly selected selected "millionnaire "millionnaire street" street" 50,000 £50,000 through through[the] the

We We were were selected selected as as a a[charity] charity local local[to] to the the millionaire millionaire street street of of the[the] month month and[and] awarded awarded this this[funding.] funding. This This enabled enabled us us to to create create bursaries bursaries[for] for[travel] travel and[and] counselling counselling for for an an eighteen-month eighteen-month 

> period period[(ending] (ending[31/08/25)] 31/08/25) as as[well] well as as supporting supporting staff staff training[training][and] and our our[running] running[costs.] costs.[During] During[the] the year year a[a] total[total] of[of] £11,436 EI 1,436 was was spent spent renewing renewing the[the] gym gym roof. roof.

> trained trained therapist therapist providing providing a a safe safe place place for for people people[to] to share share their their problems problems and and explore explore ways ways to to manage manage their their MS MS 

> or or caring caring duties[duties][with] with[their] their[peers.] peers. 

> The The Support Support Groups Groups[have] have had[had][fantastic] fantastic results. results. We We[have] have witness witness increased increased confidence[confidence] in[in] and[and] out out of[of] the[ the] Centre[Centre] and and[participants] participants have have[reduced] reduced anxiety,[anxiety,] stress stress and[and] suicidal suicidal thoughts.[thoughts.][The] The groups groups[also] also have[have] an an[impact] impact on on how[how]

## Public Public benefit[benefit] 

The The charity's charity's main main activities activities and[and] who who[is] is helped helped are are described described below. below. The The main main[focus] focus of of all[all] charitable charitable activities activities[is] is to to support support people people with with Multiple Multiple Sclerosis. Sclerosis. 

The The trustees trustees confirm[confirm][that] that[they] they have have complied complied with with[the] the requirements requirements[of] of section[section] 4 4 of of the the Charities Charities Act Act 2011 2011 to to have have due due regard regard[to] to the[the] public public[benefit] benefit guidance guidance published published[by] by[the] the Charity Charity Commission Commission[for] for England England and[and] Wales. Wales. 

Sussex Sussex MS MS Centre Centre has has close close to to one one[thousand] thousand members members on on the[the] databse, databse, with with 381 381 members members paying paying their their subscriptions subscriptions[in] in 2024. 2024. 

> Multiple Multiple[Sclerosis] Sclerosis is is a a changeable changeable condition, condition, and and[individuals] individuals can can go go through through long long periods[periods] when when[they] they do do not not 

> require require our our services, services. so so they they do do not not necessarily necessarily subscribe subscribe during during these these periods. periods. Our Our policy policy is is to to continue continue to to be be in in 

> contact contact with with the[the] MS MS community community regardless regardless of of subscription, subscription, as as many many return return to[to] us us[in] in times times of of need. need. 

Use Use of of volunteers volunteers Sussex Sussex MS MS Centre Centre[benefits] benefits from from many many hours hours of of volunteer volunteer time.[time.] Volunteers Volunteers operate operate the the Oxygen Oxygen Chamber Chamber and and Reception, Reception, organise organise fundraising fundraising and[and] social social[events,] events, provide provide refreshments, refreshments, help help in[in][the] the garden, garden, and and assist assist generally generally in in the the day-to-day day-to-day running of running of the the Centre. Centre. This This amounts amounts to to the the equivalent equivalent of of 4 4 full-time tUII-time employees. employees. We We held held a a party[party][for] for[ all] all our our volunteers volunteers[in] in[February] February[to] to[thank] thank[them] them[for] for[ all] all[the] the work work[they] they[do.] do.[This] This was was a a[party] party with with a a difference difference as as volunteers volunteers came came[to] to[the] the party party[in] in 80's 80’s[garb,] garb, supplied supplied us us with with[photos] photos of of what what[they] they were were doing doing[in] in[the] the 80's 80’s for for display, display, and and took took part part in in an an 80's 80’s quiz. quiz. We We extend extend our our[heartfelt] heartfelt thanks[thanks] to to them them all all for for their their time, time, dedication dedication and[and] commitment commitment without without[which] which we we would would cease cease[to] to[exist.] exist. During During[the] the year year we we took took on on 3[3] new new chamber chamber operators operators and and a a new new garden garden volunteer. The volunteer. Individual Individual[therapies] therapies are are[used] used by by many many members members to to help help with with symptom symptom management, management, warding warding off off secondary secondary disabilities disabilities[and] and improving improving wellbeing. wellbeing. We We offer[offer] Acupuncture, Acupuncture, Alexander Alexander Technique, Technique,[Beauty] Beauty Therapy, Therapy, Bowen Bowen Therapy, Therapy, Counselling, Counselling, Foothealth Foothealth (Chiropody). (Chiropody), Manual Manual Lymph Lymph[Drainage] Drainage Massage, Massage, Advanced Advanced Therapy Therapy Massage, Massage, Indian Indian Head Head Massage, Massage, Shiatsu Shiatsu Massage, Massage, Osteopathy, Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Physiotherapy, and and Reflexology. Reflexology. We We provide provide the the administration administration and[and] facilities facilities for[for] individual individual[therapies,] therapies,[but] but[therapists] therapists[are] are self-employed self-employed and[and] paid[paid] directly[directly][by] by[the] the Centre Centre Member. Member. Therapists Therapists pay pay the[the] Centre[Centre] £1[El] room room[rent] rent (daily). (daily). Therapy Therapy[charges] charges increased[increased][to] to £25[E25] per per session[session][in] in 2024 2024 and and we we differentiated differentiated between between Members Members and and Associate Associate Members Members to to which which we we[charge] charge £30 E30 a a[session.] session. Social Social Activities[Activities] There There is is a a communal communal café, café, which which is is the[the] hub hub of of the[the][Centre.] Centre. It It provides provides an an invaluable invaluable forum forum för for members members and and carers carers[to] to[share] share[knowledge,] knowledge, experiences, experiences,[and] and advice.[advice.] Many Many friendships friendships[develop] develop and[and] the[the] social social[forum] forum encourages encourages participation. participation. Trustees Trustees often[often] join[join] members members over over refreshments refreshments[which] which ensures ensures[that] that members members[feel] feel valued valued and[and][their] their feedback feedback is is welcomed. welcomed. Having Having established[established] an an invaluable invaluable library library of of MS MS books books through through funding funding[from] from[the] the Gannett Gannett Foundation, Foundation, we we have[have] continued continued[to] to grow grow this this library library using using remaining remaining funds. funds. Members Members can can borrow borrow books books for for a a few few months months at at a a time. time. We We also[also] supply supply literature literature to[to] give give to to members members on on various various aspects aspects of of Multiple Multiple Sclerosis Sclerosis and and other other sources sources of of support support provided[provided] by[ by] our our local local MS MS[Society,] Society,[different] different charities, charities,[and] and support support agencies.[agencies.]

Working Working with with others others The The Centre Centre[is] is[a] a member member of[of] Neuro Neuro Therapy Therapy[Network,] Network, an an umbrella umbrella[body] body[which] which facilitates[facilitates][networking] networking amongst amongst Centres. They They have have continued continued[to] to provide provide the[the] sharing sharing of of best best[practice] practice and and monthly monthly online online meetings meetings with with other other managers managers at at centres centres nationally, nationally, which which the the Centre Centre Manager Manager attends, attends.
