Chair report 2022

We started the 2021/2022 year positively with lots of generous prizes for the Christmas raffle and a semi-successful shaw house fair as well as the ever popular Thatcham fun day. Thank you to all the parents who donated the sweets for these events and the time to make up the bags and jars. I think this will be a firm favourite in all the fundraising we do!

We also had our sports day where the parents could come in which was a huge success, thanks to Steph for organising that!

Sylvia left in May 2022 and I took over the role of chair. We have not had a very successful year of members joining the committee so in May we had just Becky as treasurer and Jo as secretary. The roles all need to be filled to continue running the pre school so I stepped in as chair.

Becky and Jo no longer have children at the pre school and with the lack of new members joining the committee, the three of us had to have a chat about the possibility of closing. This was not a decision anyone wanted to make and it was not only down to the committee, it is also based on the last few years of accounts and how the pre school isn’t making enough money to keep up with minimum wages and the outgoings we have. We spoke to the staff and sent a letter to the parents explaining the situation. Luckily we have some very dedicated parents who have joined the committee and have a great wealth of experience between them.

Over the last few years the communication between parents, committee and staff has had to take a bit of a back seat due to covid and staff changes so now we will focus on rebuilding that with the new committee.

Nadia is taking over the role of chair, I will be secretary and Bridie and Julie will be sharing Treasurer, Lisa has offered to be in charge of fundraising as well as Alex, Beth and Tania and hopefully new parents to the pre school being part of the committee. Having so many members will mean the workload is spread evenly.

We are extremely lucky to have such great members of staff and Karen who was only employed a few months ago as deputy has now stepped into the permanent role of manager, She is already making amazing changes including taking the children out on trips and regular visits to the allotment as well as sorting out staff training and keeping everyone updated so the children have the best care. Pauline and Amy are invaluable members of staff and we are very keen to make sure we have more regular meetings with the staff so we can all work together as a team and keep the pre school open.

Our new committee means Becky and Jo can step down from their roles with Becky being a helping hand in the background while the new members learn the ropes. We could not be more grateful for what you have both done for the pre school! Becky in particular, the pre school would not be open today without all of your hard work, thank you.
