charge for the year indude$ cantn"butions pay¥t4e to the TPS of £794.827 (2024". £724.9201 and at the year-
end £94,276 (2024.. £87.lJ461 was ￿￿ue￿ in Ipspecl of wnlributions to this sthwng.
The TPS is an unfvnded mul￿eMploYer defined beneffts pertS￿ %*eme governed by The Texhers,
Pensions Reguktsons 2010 (a5 amended) and The TeachÈrs' Pension S¢hemÈ Regulations 2014 {as
amended). Members contribtrte on a.pay as you go" basi5 With contributions from rrembeT5 arnl Ihe employer
being wdited to the Exclwuer. Retirerr*nt and crther pension beneffts are patd by public fvnds provided by
Parliament.
The employer conlribution r*e is set by the Seuetary of State folkniing scheme valuations undertaken by the
Government A¢¢uary'$ Deparknent. The nwt recent actuari￿ valuatK)n of the TPS was prepared as at 31
March 2020 and the Valuth"on R•port, VAS wblished in October 2023, c4Jnfirnied that the employer
¢ontribution rate for the TPS would increase from 23.6% to 28.6% from 1 April 2024. Employers arè also
required to pay a scheme adn¥"nistsation levy of 0.08% gNif*3 a lotsl erwer ry)ntn"Ixrtion rate of 28.68%.
The 31 ma￿ 2020 Valuation Report was prepared in aco)rtsrw ￿1th ihe tenefits set QLrt in the scheme
regulations and under the approach specffied in the tjrethns. ￿ they appl*d at 26 October 2023. However,
the assumptions were considered and set by the Depkn*nt for Education prior to the rulir¥J in the'McCl¢xJdl
Sargeant case.. This case has fequired the courts to consider cases regarthng the implemenlats.on of the 2015
refoms to Public Service Pe￿OnS 1rKI￿lng the Teathers. PenSMx￿.
On 27 June 2019 the Supreme Court dented the govemff*nl pemN"sS￿￿n to appeal the Court of Appeal's
judgment that transitional provistons introdu¢ed to the refom)ed pension schemes in 2015 gave rise to
unlawful age discrimination. The govemFrwI È5 respe¢tirKJ the Court's deci$ion and has said it will erya9e
fvlly with the Employment Tribunal a5 VIEII as employer and rypmber repre5entstives to a9￿¢ how the
discriminations will be reme(lied. The govemment announce(l ¢)n 4 FebTLWy 2021 that rt intends lo proceed
a deferred ch￿ce unde￿In under vthich members *ryll be abbe to choose either legaGy or reforn￿d
scheme benefits in respect of their seThKe during the peiiod belween 1 April 2015 and 31 March 2022 at the
point they be¢oThe payable.
The TPS is subject to a c¢st ¢£ntrol wr￿chanIsM vthich was put in place to protect tsxpayers against
unforeseen thanges in stheme o)sts. The o)st cap implerr*ntstion per1￿j is from 1 April 2024 10 31 March
