Wo￿lP and Pr Our regular service pattern continues to see across-Benefice eucharistic worship held in one of our three churches every Sunday. On the 2 and 4, Sundays these comrnunion services are held at st Thomas's. An Evensong is held on the first Sunday of rnost months on rotats'on around the Benefice and extra services were celebrated at Dodbrooke during Lent. Easter. Advent and Christmas. Worship is enhanced by the dedication of an organist and a tower captain who leads an enthusiasiic team of bell-ringers. A rots for epistle readers and intercessors entOUfa8es lay particl￿tiOn. Morning Prayer is held on Wednesdays and Saturdays a 5rnall nurnber of regular attendees. Pupils from the nearby Kingsbridge Primary School, Clas5-b￿lasS, were welcomed into the church over a 3-day period to'Experience East*. Further inwl¥ement with the Primary School is detsiled under Mission & Outreach. As a Mission Community we also draw on the richness of vrt>rship and prayer of other denominations when we join together in Kingsbridge Churches Gathering services and events. As well as our regular services. we have sought to 5er¥e the communilies of which we are a part through the ministry of Ckcasional Offices for the Christian milestones of the ioumey through Itfe. Either our Prie5t-in-char8e or LLM has officiated at 2 baptisrns. 5 funerals and 3 burials of ashes. Deanery Synod One Dodbrooke hy member sits on the Deanery s￿0d and feeds back to PCC meetings. Wchjdleigh Deanery Synod met 3 b.mes during 2025. After an opening act of ￿￿shiP & prayer, the Archdeacon of Totnes, Douglas Dettmer. acting Rural Dean, chaired the b￿lnesS section of each Page 3 of 11 meeting which comprised a stsndafd agenda inccvporating a financial report and an opportunity to Share parish news. A speaker followed on each ¢xcasion. The meetings concluded with a time of prayer and the Grace. In December 2025. our Priest-in-charge. Re%Yl Jax Tilbury was appointed RuTrl Dean. Church Fabrlc A new on-pew heating system was installed in April. The old gas-fired heating was serviced a5 usual in the Autumn and will be uttlised as necessary during the winter of 202516 whilst the efficary of the new system is assessed. With clear evidence of internal drying Out following 2024 roof repaiTS and no recurrence of intemal grovrth, quotes were sought- and an acceptsble one has been received - for internal restoration of the walls of the Chancel. It is hoped that the work will commence early in 2026. Rwf valleys, gutters. hoppers, downpipes and drains were checked and cleared as necessary twice during the year and minor repairs were carried out on various roof Sections. Displaced and damaged roof slates in one such section along the north valley were attributed to historic unauthorised access. Resultin8 from heavy rain, a leak into the vestry alleyffj wa the vestry/flaVnorth-ai51e rwf abutment has been repeatedly invesb"8ated and repair will be initiated once the root-cause has been estsblished. Annual portable appliance testing and fir￿fighting equipment servicing took place. Goods and ornaments in the church remain unchanged. The Church Terrier. Inventory and Church Log b￿k are up to date. The churchyard continues to be looked after by a small dedicated team {- one employed: others vlunteersl who do a wonderful job of keeping it under control. Folk)wing agreement at a PCC meeting, a handrail VAS installed to facilitste acce55 up the grassy central steps to the top of the churchyard. The entrance area of the Parish Hall required repair work. Rotten flooring and wall plates were removed,. the latter replaced with plastic. New timberioists were fitted, topped with new moistur re5istsnt chipboard Ilooring. On entry, the coir matting area was increased along viith new linoleum for the surrounds. The PCC were extremely glatefvl for an an0n￿Ou$ donation that covered half the cost of this work. Mlsslon and [￿treaCh A rots of volunteers from Ciodbrooke has facilitsted the church bel￿ open to the cornmunity up to 6 days per week for stillne55. refiection and private prayer. Entries in the Visitors, Bwk confirm that such opening is valued. Our LLM continued to lead a programme of rnonthly visits to Care Homes to offer a short service and she also leads regular assemblies in the primary Schools of KIn￿bridge and West Alvington. Over the past year, Rev Jax hès stren8thened relationships with ￿Ing$bridge Comrnunity College supporting both staff and pupils and sethng up an inyrson Chaplaincy in the school- once a week at preserrt but with potents.al for expansion. Members have been involved in the organisation and offering of meals for school children in the holidays through the local ecumenical inttiative'soul Food,; other members have contributed to the work of the Foodbank through deliveries out into the community. Wordwise- the Christian Bookshop and Cornmunity Café- is supported in various ways by an ecumenical group of volunteers. iT￿￿dIng mernbers of Dodbrooke parish. A representstive from our churth is a member of the KCG plannin8 group which rneets quarterly. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity was reccwiised across the thurches of the town opening with an ecumenical service. Lent Lunches were also an auos5-denominational affair with good support from members of our parish. On Good Friday. a Walk of Wrtness commenced from our church and proceeded via other town churches down Fore Street to a Swvice of Witness on the Quav. A well-supported Bible Weekend took pl￿e in Cttober, held across various of the town's churches. The Bishop of Plymouth gave the Keynote Address. As has already been ments'oned, the two Mission Community house 8roups also have an eeumenical dynamic for prayer, bible study. ￿rShIP and felbwship. Giving to the Church- via the Parish Giving Scheme. collections. donats'on5 and 8rft aid reclaims- amounted to £18.9K. dyments from all cash fund5 (general. restrirted & designated) totslling £68.339.37 were spent to provide the Christian mini5ty offered from Dodbrooke Church. That sum included our contribution of £29.9K to the Diocesan Comrnon Fund. Church running expenses1£5.8KI. utility costs {£1.6KI, Parish Hall running expense$1£5.2KI and the cost ofthe new on-pew heating sy5tern1£19.7KI. Reconciling inccM))e and expenditure resulted in monetsry assets (including Nl Savrngsl of £16.922.67 in ￿eneral lie undesi8natedl funds on 31° December 2025- an increase of approxirnately £4.7K over the 12-month period. However. it should be noted that. as of June 2025, the annual insurante Pdge 5 of 11 premium has been paid via monthly direct debit ratherthan as a lump sum, meaning that, at year*nd, general funds were over-inflated by an'unpèid, insurance element of approximately £2.5K. Supplemented by a drnwdown of £8K, assets of £10.4K were used from the restricted Church Repair Fund to part-finance the new heating 4stem: the balance was covered by le8acies1£1.2KI. a 'Quick Wins, 8rant 1£5KI and VAT refunds 1£3K). Dmdends and a dTrwd(wn of £2K from the Churehrdrd Investment Fund covered churthyard expenditure through 2025. The PCC'S Investment funds held with CCLA performed Very poorty durin8 202S. It is hoped that the forthcoming acquisition of CCLA by Jupiter Fund Management will boost investment empertise. The 'FBht the Fungus, Appeal continued duri￿￿ 2025 and, thanks to the hard work and enthusiasm of our fundrniser-ifvchief Chris Stephens. a further £5.5K was raised via numerous imaginats've social events. There are now sufficient funds to progress with Stsge 2 of the restorntion programme. Safe8uardln8 In accordance with Sectbon 5 of the Safe8uarding and Cleryi Discipline Measure, 2016, the t>odbrooke PCC cornplies the House of Bishops. poliry and guidance on the safeguarding of children. young people and vulnerable adults. We ha¥e a Parish Safeguarding Representative (who is a150 the Safeguardirva c[￿ordina￿)r for our Beneficel and both our Safeguardi￿& Policy Ststement and Safeguarding Guidelines are reviewed annually by the PCC. Copies of the Parish Safeguarding Handbwk are held by the Representstive- a pdf version of the handbook is available online for reference. The Church of England ha5 developed an &manual {containin& eg, 'Safer Recruitrnent & People Management Guidance'l to complement the handbwk. This helps ensure that all prartical requirements are kept up to date and are reported at PCC rneetings. All members due for updates in 2025 have undertaken Online Safeguarding Training and undergone DBS checks. Grateful thanks are recorded for members. cooperation. The Representative reported t￿1 safeguardinglsecurity issues durin8 2025: youngsters, rnaking mischief in the open but unattended Church. were dealt with by the police: a rough sleeper gained access to the parish hall on two occasions. Corrective processes were put in place: twtrperson church closin& a new key-code for hall entry and'spaces clearf checks prior to hall-hirer departure. Volunteers The members of the PCC here record their sincere thanks to all the ¥olunteer5 who have worked 50 tirelessly to ensure that our church continues to be a welcoming and open community. Our special thank$ 80 to our Churchwarden. to the leaders of our outrthich worK to the small tearn of volunteers who are committed to maintaining the church and its grounds, to those who lead fundraising efforts and to those involved in administrats'on, cleaning and adornment.
