The Trustees are pleased to present their Report togéther with the Financial Statements of the Ch8rity
for the year ended 5 April 2024.
Legal and Administrafjve Information, set out on Page 1, forms part of thls Report The Financial
Statements compty with current statutory requirements and the Statement of Recommended Practice -
Accounting and Reportlng by Charities.
Objecllves and Actlvlt188
The Obi￿ts of the Sir John Glalgud Charltable Trust are general charitable objects.
However, given the original settlorfs theatrical background, the trustees have re501ved to principally use
the funds to provide bursary grants to final year drama students attending drama collegeslschgols within
the United Kingdom.
Achievemants and Perforniance
The trustees invited a number of drama schools wiihin the United Kingdom (previously members of the
Conference of Drama Schools) to nominate one student candidate per drama school and who in the
drama school's view show5 promising abilitles and is suffering financial hardship.
The trustees awarded twenty bursaries of £6,000 for this year, one Drama School wa5 not able to
nominate a candidate
Flnancial Rovlew
The Charlty held unrestricted funds at the 5 April 2024, amounting to £2,114,132
Income for tha year was £66,420 and after charitable bursaries and other costs, the level of outgoing
resources for the year was £92,171.
Realised Investment Ioss8s and Unrealised Inv8stment gains gave outgolngs for the year of £43,071.
The Chartty hold reserv&s to meet tho charitable bursaries and other costs.
The Charity relies on ts res8Nes and Gapital Investment growth to cover exFenditure not Govered by
income.
Structure, Governanco and Management
The charitable trust is a charlty established by trust deed. There are currently five trustees who meet at
least ￿[ce a year in order to consider and approve the charity's accounts and investment performan
of the charty's share portfolio as well as assessing and selecting the student nominations sent by the
drama schools.
The bulk of the charity's management is now perfomied by Smyth Barkham LLP, Solicitors, of which
one of the truslees, lan Bradshaw, is a consultsnt.

It is my responsibillty to state, on the basis of procedures specified in the General Directions given by
the Charlty Commissioners under section 146{51(bl of the Act, whether particular matters have come to
my attention.
This report is made sole5y to the Charity's Trustees, as a body, in accordance wlth sectlon 145 of the
Act. My work has been undertaken so that I might state to the Charity's Trustees the matters l am

My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Dlrectlons given by the Charity
Commissioners. An axaminatlon includes a review of the accounting records kept by the Charity and
comparlson of the accounts presented with those records. It also inclLsdes consideration of any
unusual items or dlsclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from you concerning any such
matter8. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required by an
audit and, consequently, I do not express an oplnion on the view given by the accounts.
