## Minister’s Statement

I was recently searching YouTube for suitable songs for our Sunday morning meetings and ‘soaking’ meetings. I found a particular song that sounded fantastic...a soaring, stirring tune and excellent lyrics. It was (so I thought) by a popular American worship leader. I put it on my list for that week, yet every time I came to include it in the final ‘cut’ so to speak, my heart wasn’t rising to it, and something just wouldn’t ‘let’ me use it. Strange. I went back to it a week or two later, and found other songs that had similar accompanying descriptions, and after further research I realised that this song, and now hundreds if not thousands on YouTube are AI (Artificial Intelligence) generated songs. Some openly clone the singing voice of contemporary artists, while others coyly say that they are ‘in the style of’ a particular singer.

Perhaps my ‘heart’ did not rise to this song, not because of the tune or lyrics, which were excellent, but because, being artificially generated by a computer, I somehow sensed that it had no ‘soul’, and so didn’t connect with my soul. It could connect with my mind, but the life of God that Jesus promised us is so much deeper than feeding our minds with information about God or Theology. It is the very heart of our Father touching our hearts (that deeper place within us that goes beyond rational thought). This can be direct, but it can also be through the words or music or writings of another, whose soul has been touched by Father and they are passing it on. I’m not certain that AI is at that stage yet (and probably never will be). An AI program can copy musical styles and develop words and rhymes based on its learning and copying of human precedents, but at the end of the day, that’s all it is... a copy, albeit cleverly re-worded and re-imagined.

That got me thinking—how much of our own personal life with Father is just copied or cleverly re-worded faith of others. How much do we copy others because it’s ‘worked’ for others, so we think it’s what Father wants? Or how much of our spiritual life is singing our own song, with our own words, that testify to what Father means to us, that comes from a place of having had our hearts touched by his love, our souls authentically telling the story of His goodness and our unique relationship with Him as His children?

## **Chair’s Report 2024/2025**

It is with great pleasure that I present the Annual Report of the charity Hemsworth Christian Fellowship.

## **Objectives and Activities**

Its objectives are to advance the Christian Faith and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Hemsworth and the surrounding area.

The main activities are undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objectives. The Trustees have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.

Ongoing aims are always to respond to needs that arise in the community for either group development or financial aid where appropriate for the public benefit.

## **The following activities have been held at ‘The Springs’**

‘Little Springs’ parent and toddlers Springs Café (Lite Bites) Southmoor Luncheon Club Card-making and Creative Space Art Group Foodbank cafe

## **Spiritual activities at the church other than the Sunday morning gathering include**

Soaking group

## **Other groups/meetings/classes**

Food Bank Community Allotment craft group Turning Point Substance Misuse Charity Various meetings supporting local community initiatives Senior Citizens coffee morning Sycamore Trust craft group organized by LittleBeck Trust Regular fundraising pamper evenings

**Page 5**

## **Achievements and Performance**

The charity was unsuccessful in appointing 2 new trustees, and the Trustees have agreed to amend the Constitution to allow for the leadership of the church to in effect also fulfil the role of Trustees.

The new boiler was installed successfully and is already proving to be a more efficient heating system. The modular building was painted and looks great. Roof insulation was also installed in all the rooms which are currently is use. The counselling room has been created and is now used on a daily basis, and the Foodbank has been moved to the former youth room with shelving and freezers installed.

## **Volunteers**

Once again, our volunteers are a source of pride and joy here at HCF. From washing pots on a Sunday, running groups and classes, organising quizzes and preparing finances, our volunteers cannot be praised too highly.

They are held in the highest regard by staff and users and without whom nothing would happen at the centre. They hold the values dearly and are exemplary in service and dedication. People continue to love coming to our activities, and it is down to the volunteers who create a safe, accepting environment.

## **Future Plans**

- Secure more room hire funding to cope with rising costs

- Create a clinic room to accommodate Turning Point

- Replace the rusted steel lintels around the church if possible

- Support member counsellor in developing their business

- Develop the grass area at front of church

- Further secure the modular building with steel window guards

## **Financial Review**

The accounts show a loss of just over £8000, but this is due to grant monies being received in the previous accounts yet being spent in this year’s accounts (Boiler and painting the modular building, and creating the new clinic). A slight decrease in rental income is due to the care home ceasing to trade. Despite this, cash in bank is very healthy, but with the expected ongoing increase of fuel bills this will be needed. The rise in all prices is the main threat to the charity, but the usual financial prudence and general increase in income means that there are no major worries for the coming year. Reserves have not been used and remained, as agreed, at a minimum of 12 months running costs for the charity.

The finances of the Hemsworth Christian Fellowship are kept under close review through the year.

## **The Annual Accounts for the year ended 31st March, 2025 form part of this report and are attached as an appendix.**
