## **Constitution and Organisation.**
The organisation is governed by a constitution document amended November, 2005 and is a registered Charity (No. 702838).
The Trustees meet to oversee the work of the charity. A leadership team oversee the spiritual life of the church

## Minister’s Statement
I heard an interesting ‘fact’ the other day. Apparently the current generation can be exposed to as much information in one week as our great grandparents did in a lifetime. I’m not sure how accurate the figures are, but certainly when you consider that at the click of a button we can find out through social media what our friends, acquaintances and indeed most people in the village are doing and thinking. We can scan through hundreds of news articles from round the world. We are bombarded with information from hundreds of different TV channels. Our grandparents had no TV or internet. They would have been mostly unaware if a volcano had erupted in Iceland or if North Korea was supplying weapons to Russia or who was having an argument with who on an exotic island to win an a large amount of money!
There’s no wonder that stress and anxiety are the biggest negative influences in people’s lives and health, especially in the ‘First’ world. It seems we can’t escape the daily barrage of bad news. Certainly we are more clued up on the way the world is working (or rather not working) and the internet has made life easier in many areas—yet I still look at the lives of our forefathers with a small degree of envy. Life was just simpler. Not easier by any means, but certainly less mentally stressful due to the lack of knowledge of things to be stressed about.
It’s really important therefore what lens we see the world and people through. We often look at and relate to the world around us through the lens of our own culture / upbringing, and often our own painful experiences and prejudices. It’s not enough either to simply say ‘we need to look at the world through the lens of the Bible, or ‘have a Biblical perspective’ because last time I read it their was plenty of prejudice, genocide, hatred, discrimination etc in the name of God. Don’t forget that many supporters of right wing ideology believe they have a ‘Biblical’ perspective!
No, it’s so important in these days to view the world through the lens of THE Word of God who is Love personified—Jesus, the exact representation of the heart of the Father, who’s death on the cross at the hands of humankind demonstrated the ultimate in forgiveness and unconditional love, and in some incredible way, I personally believe, secured the redemption and ultimate restoration of the entire cosmos which one day will once again be in perfect harmony. Bad news swallowed up by the Good News!

## **Chair’s Report 2020/21**
It is with great pleasure that I introduce the report of the charity Hemsworth Christian Fellowship.
## **Objectives and Activities**
Its objectives are to advance the Christian Faith and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Hemsworth and the surrounding area.
The main activities are undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects. The Trustees have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit.
Ongoing aims are always to respond to needs that arise in the community for either group development or financial aid where appropriate for the public benefit.
## **The following activities have been held at ‘The Springs’**
‘Little Springs’ parent and toddlers Springs Café (Lite Bites) Southmoor Luncheon Club Card-making and Creative Space Art Group Foodbank cafe
## **Spiritual activities at the church other than the Sunday morning gathering include**

It was with sadness that we said goodbye to two of our long serving TrusteesJohn Seddon (retirement) and Malcolm Warren (passed away). The charity has again largely achieved what it set out to do at the beginning of the financial

year. The charity has continued to employ the 2 key posts and covered essential running costs despite spiralling
## **Achievements and Performance**
## energy costs.
It has successfully secured funding from WMDC and The Benefact Trust for the installation of a new boiler. Funding for a suspended ceiling was unsuccessful. A surprise donation from a local charity closing down has given the funds to be able to paint the modular building. The relationship with Turning point is growing and the modular building now hosts the Alcohol team as well as the Inspiring Recoveries team.
## **Volunteers**
Again, our volunteers are a source of pride and joy here at HCF. From washing pots on a Sunday, running groups and classes, organising quizzes and preparing finances, our volunteers cannot be praised too highly.
They are held in the highest regard by staff and users and without whom nothing would happen at the centre. They hold the values dearly and are exemplary in service and dedication. People continue to love coming to our activities, and it is down to the volunteers who create a safe, accepting environment.
## **Future Plans**
- Appoint 2 new trustees
- Install the boiler and paint the modular building
- Insulate the modular building to combat rising energy costs
- Create a dedicated counselling / therapy room
- Move the Foodbank to a larger dedicated space
- Enable regular fundraising nights for local charities
## **Financial Review**
The accounts show a very healthy profit on the year, though £10,000 of this is ‘spoken for’ in restricted grants and designated monies (boiler and painting). Gift aid represents a large income this year which has not been collected for a few years. An increase in office rent reflects the growing relationship with Turning Point, and an increase in regular giving by individuals has helped the charity. Due to this, cash in bank is very healthy, but with the expected trebling of fuel bills this will be needed. The rise in all prices is the main threat to the charity, but the usual financial prudence and general increase in income means that there are no major worries for the coming year. Reserves have not been touched and remained, as agreed, at a minimum of 6 months running costs for the charity.
The finances of the Hemsworth Christian Fellowship are kept under close review through the year.
## **The Annual Accounts for the year ended 31st March, 2024 form part of this report and are attached as an appendix.**

- I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **31/03/2024** .
- **Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the preparation **basis of report** of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
