## **Constitution and Organisation.** 

The organisation is governed by a constitution document amended November, 2005 and is a registered Charity (No. 702838). 

The Trustees meet to oversee the work of the charity.  A leadership team oversee the spiritual life of the church

## Minister’s Statement 

It seems at the moment that we, as a country, are lurching from one crisis to another. The Covid pandemic is all but over, but now with the war in Ukraine leading to gas, electric and petrol prices not seen before, people are feeling the gloom once more. Whilst the rich oil companies feather their nests at the expense of the rest, many families are facing again a choice of ‘heating or eating’. Whilst shareholders and hedge fund managers enjoy huge bonuses, woeful, ill thought out decisions by government ministers can spark a financial downturn that lasts for years, further increasing the hardship for families with mortgages and first time buyers. 

We are not certain what the future will hold financially for the church, as we are not sure whether the world will descend into nuclear annihilation or not. We cannot afford to second guess what might be. As a wise man once said 

“Who of you, by worrying, can add a single day to your lives?” 

We can only trust our heavenly Father to look after us...and that’s easier said than done, because we seem to have a natural inclination to worry about the future. 

There’s a story in the Old Testament where God provides Abraham with a Ram to sacrifice, instead of his son. Abraham found the ram already there in a bush, and so calls the place Jireh because God provided (Jireh) what Abraham needed. The root of the Hebrew word Jireh is linked to the Hebrew word ‘to see’. God saw in advance what was going to happen and made provision for it. His Pre-vision enabled his Pro-vision. 

In the same way, for our peace of mind, it’s important that we can rest in the belief that God is not surprised by any circumstances we find ourselves in, either personally or as a church. Life will not always go smoothly. People will mistakes. We will. Crises will come, and crises will go. With an energy crisis looming, we have already seen God’s provision for us here at church with an unexpected grant to help with future running costs. 

His pre-vision and pro-vision are not limited to financial matters either. Whatever our need, be it spiritual, mental or emotional, he has promised to meet it. When we worry and make our own plans and schemes, we sometimes fail to see what God has and is providing. Like I said, much easier said than done, but learning slowly to trust...together we can encourage each other in these things

## **Chair’s Report 2020/21** 

It is with great pleasure that I introduce the report of the charity Hemsworth Christian Fellowship. 

## **Objectives and Activities** 

Its objectives are to advance the Christian Faith and to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Hemsworth and the surrounding area. 

The main activities are undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects.  The Trustees have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. 

Ongoing aims are always to respond to needs that arise in the community for either group development or financial aid where appropriate for the public benefit. 

## **The following activities have been held at ‘The Springs’** 

‘Little Springs’ parent and toddlers Springs Café (Lite Bites) Southmoor Luncheon Club Card-making and Creative Space Art Group Film Nights Community Allotment 

## **Spiritual activities at the church other than the Sunday morning gathering include**

## **Achievements and Performance** 

The charity has again largely achieved what it set out to do at the beginning of the financial year.  The charity has continued to employ the 2 key posts and covered essential  running costs. It has continued to support existing, and develop relationships with other groups and charities in the community. It continues to provide safe space for people to develop their lives in a holistic way. The charity emerged not unscathed but not adversely crippled by the lockdown due to the Covid Pandemic, and  is now operating at pre-pandemic levels 

It maintained its close links in supporting other community groups both financially and by allowing the use of its building throughout by a newly formed Food Bank (Hemsworth Food Pantry). The relationship with this group has led to the formation of other new partnerships and relationships within the community, and provided new volunteering opportunities 

## **Volunteers** 

Again, our volunteers are a source of pride and joy here at HCF. From washing pots on a Sunday, running groups and classes, organising quizzes and preparing finances, our volunteers cannot be praised too highly. 

They are held in the highest regard by staff and users and without whom nothing would happen at the centre. They hold the values dearly and are exemplary in service and dedication. People continue to love coming to our activities, and it 

## **Future Plans** 

To develop the relationship with the Food Bank, hopefully to open a café alongside it. To facilitate other groups and individuals to use the building to pursue their goals. To develop new links with other local groups who have similar aims and objectives in promoting the benefit of the local community. To develop a new coffee morning and craft groups, and respond to the changing needs of the community where they arise 

## **Financial Review** 

An overall real-term loss of £3000 for the year is not an undue worry, as cash in hand and reserves are still healthy. The main threats to the charity remain the cost of utilities, but in regards to this a grant of £10,000 to buy new kitchen equipment and help with running costs was awarded by the National Lottery Fund. The Trustees have agreed to move the accounts to a simpler Receipts and Payments format this year, reflecting the smaller nature of the charity now. Reserves have not been touched and remained, as agreed, at 6 months running for the charity. 

The finances of the Hemsworth Christian Fellowship are kept under close review through the year.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended **31/03/2022** . 

**Responsibilities and** As the charity trustees of the Trust, you are responsible for the **basis of report** preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out  under section 145 of the 2011Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
