Trustee AGM 2022 Report and Accounts to 30th September 2022 – Wednesday 19th October 2022
Good evening everyone and thank you for attending tonight’s AGM.
Once again it is a pleasure for your Trustees to provide this report which tonight will cover the last year 2022 only. We again, think it is only fair, to say that the past three years have been unprecedented, initially with the Covid-19 shutdown and the subsequent difficult conditions we have all faced since. We have risen to the challenges posed by Covid and although life at Ravensthorpe initially came to standstill during the Spring and Summer of 2020, activity is now returning to the levels of 2019 and earlier. Our achievements are starting to materialise with an ever increasing number of buses and coaches being prepared for active service. More on this later.
We have continued to build our membership base with an increase of 9 new associate members joining during the course of the past 12 months. Now it is my responsibility to report the sad loss of a number of members, one in particular; Alan Dakin who alongside Colin Poole was kept focus on the external events attended for a number of years.
To celebrate the last Wulfrunian to operate in service the decision was taken to recreate this run. Therefore, on Saturday 5[th] March 2022 a number of ex-West Riding buses, although sadly WHL 970 wasn’t ready in time to make the date, set out from the museum to Alverthorpe. Then at 10:54am exactly 50 years and twelve hours after the very last Wulfrunian departure the convoy left the Alverthorpe terminus and followed the 114 route into Wakefield where it would have terminated, on Westgate at 11:06, before returning to Belle Isle. Publicity surround the event didn’t go unnoticed and we were approached by the Features Editor of the Yorkshire Post, Dewsbury Reporter and Wakefield Express who dispatched a photographer to Ravensthorpe to cover the event which appeared in that week-end editions.
Ravensthorpe continues to be a hive of activity especially on Mondays. The Red Wulfrunian 970 (WHL 970) returned to the road in early 2022. Testing then continued throughout the summer months and we are all hopeful that 970 will be available to start offering free rides at our forthcoming late October 2022 Open Day. We still have a few jobs to complete but 970 is now available to provide rides again. A number of members being treated to an early demonstration ride in it, together with a feature in B&C Preservation. With the re-wiring on Dalesman 803 nearing completion the decision was taken to do an oil change including an oil filter change and a fuel filter change. Then disaster struck, removal of the sump plug to drain the old oil highlighted a number of other problems with both the sump and engine. On the positive side, the sump is now welded up, the Starter Motor and Dynamo have received a much needed service and the heads are currently away for re-skimming. Restoration continues on County 70, the seats are away for recovering. David our archivist continues to increase the number display boards within the Museum.
Our exhibits within the Museum and our two outstations have remained reasonably static although Kelvyn and David have recently sold PJX 35. John Hinchcliffe is once again making his weekly visit to Penistone to work on his Blackpool PD2. Colin Sidaway continues to make progress on his Huddersfield Regent III. The ex-West Riding VR is now mobile following the repairs to the gearbox. Martin is removing the old paint on a weekly basis. The list here is endless and we hope that we haven’t offended anyone by missing anything of significance off.
Away from Ravensthorpe we continue to attend events especially those where the WROPS sales stall is welcome. We must pass on our gratitude and thanks to those members who regularly help at these events where we know that many hands do make light work.
I would like to close by thanking everyone for your contributions during the past year. It is our hope that together we can consolidate what we have already achieved and move forward into 2023.
This report was prepared and delivered on behalf of the Trustees of the West Riding Omnibus Museum Trust by Andrew Beever, Trustee and Secretary of Dewsbury Bus Museum.
