The committee members, with the assistance of the volunteers, manage the day-to-day running of the Society. ## **Objectives and activities** Our aim continues to be to provide the best service possible for our members and to encourage others to pursue an interest in genealogy and family history. Our main focus is always to help people understand the value of membership of a family history society. We plan over the coming months to transfer all our booklets of transcribed information into a format which can be readily downloaded through our online shop. This will enable buyers to sort the data within the files and allow us to reduce printing costs and time spent printing and preparing booklets. This will provide for a better fit with modern day technology. We will continue to work with our volunteers to transcribe memorial inscription information from graveyards within our area. This is genealogical data which is not readily available elsewhere. We will continue to provide our popular beginners’ family history courses and find ways to educate people with family history interests about the wealth of information available through a family history society. Our attendance at local and family history related events is particularly important, as are our volunteers who support what we do. It is our intention to hold a summer ‘thank you’ event for them to celebrate all our successes and give an opportunity for everyone to meet their fellow volunteers. ## **Public benefit statement** The Charity's Trustees have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties. This guidance is contained in "Charities and Public Benefit" published by the Charity Commission. ## **Future developments** Whilst it has taken longer than expected, we hope to continue to upgrade the systems at our research room to provide easier access to databases which are our own, as well as offering the usual wide access to subscription websites. Data from the MI project is now ready to go online and to be available at the Root Cellar. Future proofing our society will continue to be a priority in terms of ensuring that the knowledge and experience of existing committee members and volunteers is captured, in order to ensure seamless succession planning. This has been as a result of the on-going and successful completion of the Society's aims and objectives. _-_| |||_20,194_| The financial statements were approved and authorised for issue by the Board of Trustees on 6 November 2024 and signed on their behalf by: **M Wheeler Chair** **I Stevenson Vice-Chairman** I have verified the Balance Sheet and confirm the Fund Statement is a fair statement for the year ended 31 July 2024. **A Harman** _**Independent Examiner**_ November 2024 **HUDDERSFIELD AND DISTRICT FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY** ## **NOTES TO THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 JULY 2024** ## **1 Accounting policies** - _(i) Basis of accounting_ These financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention and in accordance with applicable accounting standards and the Statement of Recommended Practice "Accounting and Reporting by Charities" issued in March 2005. - _(ii) Incoming resources_ All incoming resources are included in the SOFA when the charity is legally entitled to the income. - _(iii) Resources expended_ Expenditure is recognised on a cash basis and is classified to the appropriate heading as determined by the Committee. - _(iv) Tangible fixed assets_ Tangible fixed assets are capitalised at cost and are depreciated on a straight line basis over their estimated useful lives as follows: Fixtures and fittings 4 years straight line Computer equipment 3 years straight line Leasehold improvements 3 years straight line - _(v) Funds structure_ Unrestricted funds are available for use at the discretion of the Committee in furtherance of the general objectives of the charity and which have not been designated for other purpose. Designated funds are unrestricted funds that have been set aside by the Committee for a particular purpose. At the 31 July 2023, the Society did have designated funds. Further information is given in note 5 of these Financial Statements. Restricted funds are funds which are to be used in accordance with specific restrictions imposed by the donor. As at 31 July 2023, the Society did not have any restricted funds. ## **2 Staff costs** No trustee received any remuneration from the charity. The Charity does reimburse trustees for expenditure incurred on behalf of the charity on production of valid invoices. ## **3 Royalties** The Society receives royalties from a variety of sources and these can be categorised as follows: |Family History Federation (FMP)

25,012| ## **5 Funds of the charity** In January 2024, the Charity received a one-off donation from a member in recognition of the many years of work the Society has undertaken for people with roots in Kirklees and the surrounding areas. The Committee were extremely grateful to receive this donation and decided to utilise the donation in regard to the rebranding of the Society. This includes the new logo and advertising banners. ## **6 Control** The Charity is controlled by the Committee. No one committee member has ultimate control.
