Section C 1
1.The Advancement of the Christian Religion
The operation of a Christian Church that is open to the public, whether of faith or those seeking to explore the meaning of Christianity.
Sunday Worship service typically consists of worship songs, prayers, teaching and sharing of communion, as well as an opportunity for sharing encouragement and fellowship.
Sermons are recorded and made publicly available on the church YouTube site.
The Sunday school operated in parallel to the main Sunday worship service, offering age-appropriate teaching and guidance, as well as craft activities and games. It is staffed by regular volunteers from within the congregation and makes use of various commercially available Christian teaching materials.
2. The relief of persons in need, hardship or distress
Guisborough Christian Centre works to relieve hardship or suffering either directly or through partnership with other charities, both locally and abroad.
Funds are made available from reserves to offer emergency financial support to individuals as the need arises and in response to ongoing relief work, natural disasters and emergency situations.
In exceptional circumstances money will be raised through specific appeals to the Sunday congregation.
3. The advancement of education
Guisborough Christian centre provides publicly available Christian teaching through sermons on Sunday mornings which are then made available to the public via the church YouTube channel.
The Sunday School provides age-appropriate teaching and guidance to the young.
The regular house group provides opportunity for more detailed Bible study as well as providing one of several mechanisms for pastoral care.
4. Provision or assistance in the provision of recreational facilities in the interests of social welfare.
In addition to the Sunday School, Guisborough Christian Centre works in partnership with similar charities in the local area to provide public community support in the form of activities such as Youth Clubs, Friendship groups for the elderly, food bank etc. This is through financial support, representation on the management of these charities, and supporting individuals to give practical assistance.
A monthly men’s breakfast, a fortnightly women’s coffee meet, and a monthly craft session are held to which non members of the church are also invited.
Coffee and refreshments are provided before and after the Sunday worship service and at various activities during the year. The costs of these are wholly borne by the Trust and no charge is levied.
D Achievements and Performance
The advancement of Christian Religion
In 2024 services were held every Sunday of the year at Laurence Jackson School. Most of the sermons were recorded and uploaded to the church YouTube channel. A house group, known as a ‘Life Group’, was held on Tuesday evenings.
The church played an active part in the Guisborough Churches Together organisation, helping to deliver inter-church services for important Christian festivals such as during Lent, and an outdoor service at the market cross at Whitsun. A flag is placed outside on Sunday mornings so that other users of Laurence Jackson school are aware of the church’s presence in the building.
On a national level the church subscribes to and supports the Evangelical Alliance, a national charity which provides vocal representation on a wide range of spiritual and community issues affecting the life of the nation.
The relief of persons in need, hardship or distress
Throughout the year the church donated money to the following:
*Guisborough Bridge Association
*University and Colleges Christian Fellowship
*Mission Aviation Fellowship
*Friends of Potter's village
Festival Teesside, a large outreach event staged in Stewarts Park, Middlesbrough
- denotes Charities registered with the UK Charity Commission
On a practical level, members of the congregation gave their time to support the monthly Market Stall, in conjunction with Guisborough Evangelical Church. This provides compassionate listening, conversation and prayer. Gifts are also distributed at certain times of year such as Easter and Christmas.
A Harvest event was organised at Sunnyfield House providing free coffee and refreshments to the public.
An Alpha Course was run in conjunction with Guisborough Evangelical Church, well attended by people from outside the church.
The advancement of education
Sunday teaching sermons, Sunday school and House group activities are described above.
Provision or assistance in the provision of recreational facilities in the interests of social welfare
As described above.
E Financial Review
Reserves are held by the Trustees for the following purposes:
-
To buffer the Trust Fund against fluctuations in donations.
-
To ensure security of a venue for Sunday worship and Sunday School.
-
Sufficient funds to honour longer term commitments (see below), and to guarantee provision of any necessary funds to honour statutory obligations to employees, in the event of their posts becoming redundant.
The principal source of funding for Guisborough Christian Centre is voluntary donations from members of the congregation. There is no obligation for members of the congregation (either ‘regulars’ or ‘visitors’) to make donations. An offering box is available on a Sunday morning on a side-table, but it is not referred to during the course of the morning and no request for funding is made publicly during the service. In addition, Guisborough Christian Centre does not offer any form of guidance or suggestion as to an appropriate level of giving.
Guisborough Christian Fellowship participates in the Gift Aid scheme for the recovery of tax on eligible donations. Whilst many in the congregation choose to participate in this scheme it is operated on an entirely voluntary basis
On occasions, in response to a specific need, an appeal will be made to the congregation, This mechanism is reserved exclusively for a response to a national or international disaster or emergency. When this happens the funds are collected and accounted for separately as restricted funds. These donations are completely voluntary.
The Trustees avoid long-term, formal commitments of support to limit future liabilities. Where the trustees have given regular support to an organisation year on year, however, they have agreed that 12 months’ notice of cessation of future giving would be offered, wherever possible.
Declaration:
The Trustees declare that they have approved the Trustees’ report above.

Independent examiner’s report to the trustees of Guisborough Christian Centre
I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Guisborough Christian Centre, also known as Guisborough Christian Fellowship, for the year ended 31 December 2024 which are attached to this report.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity trustees of the Trust you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’).
I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in a full audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.
Independent examiner’s statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
Accounting records were not kept in respect of the Trust as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
The accounts do not accord with the records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
