General information

LYMT is a member of the National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA), which provides helpful advice and opportunities.

All Trustees give their time voluntarily and receive no remuneration or other benefits other than for legitimate expenses incurred in the work of LYMT in line with the constitution.

The Trustees are grateful for the help and support from past members, parents and friends of Llandudno Youth Music Theatre and Stagenotes and hope to continue to build on this for the future.

Objectives and Activities

LYMT Aims and Objectives:

The object of the charity shall be to educate the public in musical, dramatic and performing arts and through specific focus on working with children and young people, to further the development of public appreciation and taste in the said arts. This shall be achieved by (but not exclusively through):

Principle Activities

In planning our activities for the year, the Trustees have considered the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, including the guidance on public benefit and fee charging.

The Trustees give careful consideration to the setting of fees, charges and concessions for those on low incomes or other financial constraints.

Professionally led workshops have also been provided free of charge.

LYMT is now in its 47[th] year, having been formed on 9[th] March 1978.

The main focus of the group’s activities are the skills of singing, drama and dance which benefit children and young people by developing their self-confidence, team working and social skills which will help them in their future careers. All children and young people are welcome regardless of personal background or circumstances.

Rehearsal and Workshop sessions are held at Craig Y Don Sports and Community Centre

LYMT - Thursday Evenings: 7pm to 9.15pm – 36 sessions LYMT - Sundays – 32 sessions Stagenotes - Thursday evenings: 5.30pm to 7pm – 30 sessions

Total membership in this financial year was: 60 members aged 7 – 18 years

Five leaders and four chaperones work regularly on a voluntary basis. Our volunteers are very important to the group.

Six volunteers aged 14yrs to 19yrs help with Stagenotes. The volunteers receive certificates recognising their volunteering hours from the local Community and Voluntary Support, Conwy.

Four members of LYMT are elected every two years to represent the members and to be a link between the members and the management and creative team.

Productions and Achievements

Annual Production

This year, the members performed Disney’s High School Musical at Theatr Colwyn, in April.

The members also benefitted from performing the first workshop performances of a brand new musical, composed by a past member of the group. This gave the members a unique insight into the development processes of a new musical. This musical was workshopped for parents, friends and industry creatives at Craig y Don Community Centre, in July.

Community Events

Members of LYMT entertained at the following events:

Awards

Music Theatre

A free place at West End Stage, London was again awarded by the Director of West End Stage who is a Life Member and patron of LYMT. This Summer School is held in London with a performance at His Majesty’s Theatre at the end of the week.

Each year an award is given to the two members in the performance group, who have stood out to the leaders (this could be for, but is not limited to: improvement, commitment, team working).

Five NODA Youth Certificates were awarded to members leaving the group for university, college or work. The average time each young person had been a member was 11.5years.

Life Members of LYMT: Two Life Memberships were given this year.

Gold Badge: One badge was awarded this year.

Stagenotes

Two trophies for commitment and improvement were awarded to Stagenotes members.

Financial Review

Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves: LYMT requires reserves of £25,000 at the year-end, to enable the planned future activities of the group to take place and to sustain the group.

Details of any funds materially in deficit: None

Further financial review details (Optional information): This report needs to be read in conjunction with the Annual Accounts and Balance Sheet the year 1[st] September 2024 to 31[st] August 2025

The group relies on members’ fees, tickets sales, grants, donations and fundraising to continue to operate the group at a high standard. We rely heavily on volunteers and past members for their assistance.

LYMT helps families who may struggle to find the fees to take part in our activities so that no child is disadvantaged.

Other Information

LYMT is grateful to the Directors and Committee of Craig Y Don Sports and Community Centre and local businesses for their continued support, both financial and in time. The group received grants from Llandudno Town Council and the Welsh Church Acts Fund. Numerous donations were received from past members through our Friends of LYMT scheme.

Future Plans

As always LYMT must ensure that activities fit with the aims of the group to educate the children whilst building other essential skills. The Trustees and Artistic Team wish to enhance

the group’s performances in the community and arrange professional workshop sessions. With the help of all the Members’ Representatives, members and team, the Trustees hope to build on the public benefit of the group for both its members and the community we serve in the Llandudno and surrounding area.

Closing remarks

This report shows that during the year from 1[st] September 2024 to 31[st] August 2025, the members had many varied experiences and educational activities, which help build their performance techniques, interpersonal skills and confidence and enable them to work as a team. The activities undertaken and those planned for the future, help the children and young people in the local community to attain transferable skills and build confidence, but also have fun.

Declaration

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above.

Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees
