Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

During October we took 35 of our older members across to Germany to meet the youth members of a band in the area of Märkischer Kreis. During our visit our members performed “We Will Rock You - Young @ Part” to the public in a packed event in a village hall.

We also ran a number of workshops during the year for members and the public.

As is always the case, our main focus of the year was our summer production. This year we performed “The Olympians” at the end of June. Preparations for the show started in November, and the show was performed the following summer.

We have continued to focus on education and training around member’s safety and wellbeing by training adult helpers and engaging with our youth members.

Section E Financial review

The charity’s main financial outlay occurs a couple of months before the Brief statement of the end of the financial/academic year when we put on our main charity’s policy on reserves performance. The performance will always create a significant financial shortfall, which we need sufficient funds to cover. During the year we became aware of a dormant fundraising account that had been set up by trustees many years back that contained around £4,000. It was decided to use this money to subsidise our trip to Germany in October 2023. Unfortunately, the bank were really slow to release funds which resulted in us dropping well below our intended minimum balance just before our summer production. The funds were eventually released in the early summer months. Under normal circumstances we aim to start each financial/academic year with around £6,000, which equates to around four months’ income. This ensures that will always have a minimum of around £3,000-£4,000 in our account immediately following the summer performance.

Details of any funds materially in deficit

None.

Further financial review details (Optional information)

You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:

The vast majority of our income comes from our membership and fundraising activities. All monies raised are used within the society in order to carry out our objectives.

Section F Other optional information

Section B Disclosure Only complete if the examiner needs to highlight matters of concern (see CC32, Independent examination of charity accounts.. directions and guidance for examiners). Give here brief details of any items that the examiner wishes to disclose. In the course of the examination and in conjunction with the trustees making internal enquires, further amounts of historical fundraising income were uncovered, one within the year and one after the year end. The former was introduced into the records in the year to 31 August 2024, and the latter will be treated in a similar fashion in this year. The trustees are aware that this is indicative that the control measures could be bettered, and steps are being taken to both ensure no similar situations reoccur. We are confident that this will be achieved. IER October 2018
