Chair’s Report
Regular hirers returned to hiring post covid-restrictions, we are delighted that a number of new organisations /classes are now using the hall.
We’ve been quite busy making improvements over the past 12 months – here’s a snapshot:
-
The lovely beechwood floor in the main hall was refurbished.
-
We installed an extraction hood for the commercial gas cooker in the kitchen, ensuring gas safety.
-
We upgraded the heating, moving away from oil and with a separate air conditioning system for the main hall. That makes it very easy for hirers to adjust the temperature to suit their needs.
-
Acoustic panels are now on the ceiling in the Main Hall. We have had very positive feedback from most users that the sound when talking is much improved.
-
To improve infection control, paper towels have replaced tea towels for drying up.
-
The key is kept in a coded keysafe in the porch.
-
We have bought a mobile salt/grit bin for use by hirers in icy conditions. It has robust rubber wheels for easier mobility, an ergonomic handle so it can be pushed or pulled. We’ll keep it inside the hall most of the time to avoid it being used as a waste bin.
-
We’re buying a threshold ramp to help move this bin, wheelchairs and trollies, safely through the front door.
-
We produced Village Scene magazine every 2 months. This is printed and a copy goes to every property in the village. It’s a great way for hirers to advertise their activities for £25 a full year.
-
Don’t forget, you can view our live calendar at www.hamptonbishop.info/village-hall, as well as logging in to our online booking system. Thank you for helping us test this new software – we still have a few issues but thanks to your patience and support it seems to be working fairly efficiently.
-
We followed all Government guidelines to keep the hall Covid safe, with one way systems, hand sanitser, etc. Created a QR code for visitors to scan when they arrived, using the NHS COVID 19 app.
-
At the time of writing, there is still uncertainty around Covid 19 and its variants. We were fortunate to obtain 37 boxes of Lateral Flow test kits from Hereford Council. These were placed then in the hall for hirers to use and they were all gone within a couple of weeks. We obtained more and they were placed in the Church Vestry over Christmas so villagers couls access them.
Review of our Hire Charges
At our December meeting, we agreed to review our hire charges in line with similar village hall tariffs. Our current tariff has been in place for some years, so as from April 2022 our prices will increase. However, as valued and regular bookers, from April 2022 we are introducing a 20% discount for all hirers who book 6 or more sessions. After the discount has been applied, your hourly rate will not be dissimilar to your current rate.
Hampton Bishop Villagers’ Association
HBVA continue to meet every 2 months and monitor bookings and our finances, consider actions we must take to maintain the hall in a safe and secure condition, and develop future activities. We have a regular hirers on the committee, Tom Hughes who runs Mordiford Choir. He is an active member and represent hirers interests.
