## **NETHERWITTON VILLAGE HALL**

## AGM 1st March 2024

## Chairman’s Report

It gives me great pleasure to say that last year was another busy year for our village hall. Attendances at all the events were very encouraging, continue to grow and help to unite the community of Netherwitton.

Before recalling the events that have been enjoyed here at the village hall, I need to thank various people who have helped to make things happen. First of all, it is the hard work of the members of the committee that have ensured that we are able to serve as a community hub. But, thanks are also due to many others who provided support from cake making to general care and maintenance of the building and facilities. For instance, the BBQ that was built by Joppa was put to good use last summer for the Coronation so our thanks are due to him and one and all. In addition, we welcome Susan Bathgate to the committee who I am sure will help to bring new ideas and help to share the workload.

As well as the ever popular pub nights, we have held many other events and hosted clubs here such as the Craft and Chat club, Gardening club, occasional meetings of the book club, food nights such as curry and French food, Quiz nights, annual Macmillan charity event and music nights.

Last year, I reported that we were looking for grants from awarding bodies to help us fund the cost of the roof insulation. We received grants from the National Lottery (£9,900), Wingates Wind Farm Community Fund (£7,000), The Sir James Knott Trust (£5,000), and Northumberland Estates (£1,000). This work was

completed in the autumn of last year and we are already benefitting from the extra warmth in the hall. I hope you will all agree that the roof insulation has also helped to brighten the hall and to some extent improved the acoustics, but we still have more to do to further improve the acoustics by installing sound absorbing panels especially in the bar area. We are actively seeking suppliers to complete this work soon.

As well as insulating the roof, we used some of the funds to redecorate the interior, clean and polish the floor and also have all of the chairs cleaned. The work does not stop there. While a lot of effort has been put into the maintenance of the heating system which involved replacing all the pipework feeding the radiators and fixing some leaks, the system still needs to be nursed along. In any event, the heating is working better now than it did previously.

Regarding grants, we must not forget other awards that were received during the year, but our treasurer will report on these.

Finally, I’d also like to thank all of you for your support over the past year and, please remember that we work on your behalf so do please let us know if there are any new events or activities you would like to us to arrange then I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you.

Peter Pacepavicius

Chair of the management committee
