## **Chairman’s Report – 23.07.21**

As you will all see we have been very busy during the lockdown, and we now have a fantastic kitchen, probably 8 times bigger than the original one we had, it even has hobs, cookers and hot running water. This came about after we received significant funding following our active campaign to raise money from all potential sources.

Raising the money was a long and time-consuming process, with numerous applications and presentations which had to be submitted, in triplicate whilst jumping through all the hoops. Initially we applied to the Lottery Heritage Fund. A statement of our Social and Community Objectives was submitted in early 2019 by the committee, this was presented and we were subsequently awarded £35k from the Lottery Heritage Fund. Further approaches were made to other funding organisations to raise more cash and our requests were in general very successful. This allowed us to proceed with our works in the kitchen, garden etc. Thanks especially to Dave and Peter who were heavily involved in the applications, supported by the other committee members. The fundholders we need to thank are:

Lottery Heritage Fund

NCC Community Chest

The Barbour Foundation

ACRE Village Hall Improvement Grant

Netherwitton Parish Council

Ray Windfarm

NCC Business Grant

Northumberland Estates

John Trevelyan

Works commenced at the end of March 2020 as did the Covid19 lockdown. This clearly had an adverse effect on the programme and

progress. Fortunately, the village hall was closed in any event during the restrictions until now, so the timing worked out quite well.

I was closely involved back in 2008 when 4 of us came up with the idea of a monthly casual social evening (‘pub nite’) which became the main framework to develop social activity and some income. Those 4 people were Pam & Tony Woodcock, Dawn and myself. We’ve come on a long way since then - in those days before we had a bar, we used a folding table and served drinks using the stock stashed under the table hidden by a tablecloth.

I am finally resigning today as Chairman after 6 years and will be handing over the helm to Peter who kindly offered to take over the role. Although he has only been on the committee for a couple of years, his help recently has been invaluable. Although I no longer wish to be Chairman I would like to remain on the committee and I will remain the licensee and supervisor for our Premises Licence.

I can’t praise the dedication and hard work of the committee enough – and if it wasn’t for the people here using their spare time – we wouldn’t have a village hall
