## **Trustees report March 2024 Friends of the Laing Art Gallery** 

The generous legacy from Irene Hindmarsh was distributed between the Learning dept which is in dire need of a practical upgrade, and the L-ink project which involves young people collaborating and working with artists and curating exhibitions. Our recent legacy of a gentleman’s large collection of Davidson Cloud glass is still proving to be impractical in terms of being shipped from its present home in Gosport to our local auctioneers but we hope this will be sorted soon. 

Our continuing programme of talks and day trips as well as short breaks has meant we were able to give a grant of £20,000 to the Laing Art Gallery to go towards staging exhibitions. 

We are grateful to our loyal core of members whose presence and encouragement enables us to continue to support the gallery we all love. We know the future will be challenging. People’s expectations increase while our resources diminish. There are plenty of critics who don’t seem to appreciate that we are volunteers however with your support we’ll hope to adapt and change when appropriate and look forward to another year knowing we play a significant part in promoting the Laing. 

## ***At the AGM in June 2024 the following amendment to the constitution was agreed.** 

Bearing in mind the current shortage of volunteers, the following amendment had been compiled and agreed in committee and was proposed for consideration and adoption. 

“Elected Members of the Management Committee shall serve for three years and will then be eligible for re-election for such further periods of three years as shall be agreed by the members at the AGM.” 

This motion was approved unanimously with no abstentions.
