The �r�s�ees ha�e adop�ed �he pro�isions of �he S�a�emen� of Recommended Prac�ice (SORP) "Acco�n�ing and Repor�ing b� Chari�ies" in preparing �he ann�al repor� and financial s�a�emen�s of �he chari��.
The financial s�a�emen�s ha�e been prepared in accordance �i�h �he acco�n�ing policies se� o�� in no�es �o �he acco�n�s and compl� �i�h �he chari��'s go�erning doc�men�, �he Chari�ies Ac� 2011 and Acco�n�ing and Repor�ing b� Chari�ies: S�a�emen� of Recommended Prac�ice applicable �o chari�ies preparing �heir acco�n�s in accordance �i�h �he Financial Repor�ing S�andard applicable in �he UK and Rep�blic of Ireland p�blished in Oc�ober 2019.
OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES
Objectives and aims
The principal objec�i�es of �he chari�� are:

To promo�e �he ed�ca�ion of persons residing in �he parish of Arnside and s�rro�nding areas.

The land ma� be �sed as a �illage hall for �se b� �he inhabi�an�s of �he area of benefi� �i�ho�� dis�inc�ion of poli�ical, religio�s or o�her opinions, incl�ding �se for:
a. mee�ings, lec��res and classes;
b. o�her forms of recrea�ion and leis�re-�ime occ�pa�ion, �i�h �he objec� of impro�ing �he condi�ions of life for �he inhabi�an�s.
Public benefit
The ins�i���e a�arded ed�ca�ional gran�s amo�n�ing �o �3,682 (2021 - �1,588) in �he �ear.
O�her ac�i�i�ies ha�e con�in�ed as in pre�io�s �ears, �i�h �he hire of �he Ins�i���e for ac�i�i�ies s�ch as Badmin�on & Table Tennis, Comp��er Cl�b, embroider� classes, Scrabble, Pila�es, dance classes, Archi�e Gro�p as �ell as Snooker facili�ies and �he Bridge Cl�b.
The �r�s�ees confirm �ha� �he� ha�e complied �i�h �he req�iremen�s of sec�ion 17 of �he Chari�ies Ac� 2011 �o ha�e d�e regard �o �he p�blic benefi� g�idance p�blished b� �he Chari�� Commission for England and Wales.
Grantmaking
The scheme has allo�ed �he chari�� �o make ed�ca�ional gran�s, �hich are made �o college and �ni�ersi�� s��den�s from �he �illage and �o comm�ni�� associa�ions �hich co�ld sho� an ed�ca�ional elemen� in �heir projec�s. De�ails of ho� �o appl� for gran�s ma� be ob�ained from �he Office Manager.
A beq�es� of �40,000 �as lef� b� Dr Margare� Jackson for disad�an�aged children of Arnside, �o be adminis�ered b� �he Tr�s�ees. A� presen� �31,156 is in�es�ed �i�h N�cle�s Financial Ser�ices L�d and f�nds are dra�n from �his in�es�men� as req�ired �o make gran�s. Enq�iries abo�� gran�s ma� be made �hro�gh �he Office Manager or �hro�gh Arnside Na�ional C.E. School.
Volunteers
The Tr�s�ees are gra�ef�l for �he effor�s of �ol�n�eers �ho �ere in�ol�ed in ser�ice pro�ision and f�ndraising.

Jo�ce Nicholson lef� �he Ins�i���e an in�es�men� por�folio �hich is managed b� N�cle�s Financial Ser�ices L�d �nder �he g�idance of an Independen� Financial Ad�isor, RDBIFS L�d. The in�es�men�s are in a mi���re of Eq�i�ies, Proper�� and Fi�ed In�eres� F�nds. The �al�e of �he in�es�men�s fell b� �63,804 in �he �ear d�e �o c�rren� marke� condi�ions.
Reserves polic�
I� is �he polic� of �he chari�� �o main�ain �nres�ric�ed f�nds, �hich are �he free reser�es of �he chari��, a� a le�el �hich appro�ima�es �o abo�� si� mon�hs �nres�ric�ed e�pendi��re. This does no� incl�de �he Margare� Jackson beq�es� �hich �he �r�s�ees ha�e se� aside in accordance �i�h �he benefac�or's �ishes. FINANCIAL REVIEW
Covid during the �ear
Whils� �he res�ric�ions on opening beca�se of co�id �ere lif�ed in J�l� 2021, �he effec�s of limi�ed n�mbers a��ending ac�i�i�ies and f�nc�ions con�in�ed d�ring 2022. The Ins�i���e recei�ed gran�s of �3,167 �o help offse� �he loss if income.
STRUCTURE, GOVERNANCE AND MANAGEMENT Governing document
The chari�� is con�rolled b� i�s go�erning doc�men�, a deed of �r�s� and cons�i���es an �nincorpora�ed chari��.
The Arnside Ed�ca�ional Ins�i���e �as fo�nded in 1873, �o promo�e social ac�i�i�ies and ed�ca�ional and c�l��ral in�eres�s. The original �r�s� deed (�hich en�isaged a school) �as o�� of da�e and �he Tr�s�ees agreed a ne� Cons�i���ion or 'Scheme' �i�h �he Chari�� Commissioners da�ed 13 Oc�ober 2003.
Recruitment and appointment of ne� trustees
The Ins�i���e is managed b� �he Officers and �he Commi��ee of Tr�s�ees. Vario�s s�b-commi��ees also e�is� �o manage differen� aspec�s of �he Ins�i���e's ac�i�i�ies, and all repor� �o �he Commi��ee of Tr�s�ees.
The Commi��ee of Tr�s�ees consis�s of si� appoin�ed commi��ee members �ho represen� �ser organisa�ions and �ho are elec�ed a� a mee�ing of represen�a�i�es prior �o �he AGM and si� commi��ee members �ho are elec�ed a� �he AGM. From �hese ��el�e members �he fo�r officers are elec�ed a� �he AGM. All commi��ee members are elec�ed for a �erm of one �ear. Up �o ��o addi�ional commi��ee members ma� be co-op�ed d�ring �he �ear a� a special mee�ing.
Mos� members join �o �ake par� in one or more of �he ac�i�i�ies a� �he Ins�i���e. There are o�er 200 members and man� o�her reg�lar �sers of �he Ins�i���e facili�ies.
The Tr�s�ees mee� eigh� �imes a �ear, or �hereabo��s, �o recei�e repor�s of progress and make plans for �he f���re. The da� �o da� �ork is carried o�� b� �he s�b-commi��ees, namel� Finance and Ho�se & Gardens commi��ees.
The Tr�s�ees ha�e e�amined �he major s�ra�egic, b�siness and opera�ional risks �hich �he chari�� faces and confirm �ha� s�s�ems ha�e been es�ablished �o keep �hese risks accep�abl� small.

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES
Basis of preparing the financial statements
The chari�� cons�i���es a p�blic benefi� en�i�� as defined b� FRS 102. The financial s�a�emen�s ha�e been prepared in accordance �i�h Acco�n�ing and Repor�ing b� Chari�ies: S�a�emen� of Recommended Prac�ice applicable �o chari�ies preparing �heir acco�n�s in accordance �i�h �he Financial Repor�ing S�andard applicable in �he UK and Rep�blic of Ireland iss�ed in Oc�ober 2019, �he Financial Repor�ing S�andard applicable in �he Uni�ed Kingdom and Rep�blic of Ireland (FRS 102), �he Chari�ies Ac� 2011 and UK Generall� Accep�ed Acco�n�ing Prac�ice.
The financial s�a�emen�s are prepared on a going concern basis �nder �he his�orical cos� con�en�ion, modified �o incl�de cer�ain i�ems a� fair �al�e. The financial s�a�emen�s are presen�ed in s�erling �hich is �he f�nc�ional c�rrenc� of �he chari�� and ro�nded �o �he neares� �.
The significan� acco�n�ing policies applied in �he prepara�ion of �hese financial s�a�emen�s are se� o�� belo�. These policies ha�e been consis�en�l� applied �o all �ears presen�ed �nless o�her�ise s�a�ed.
Income
All income is recognised in �he S�a�emen� of Financial Ac�i�i�ies once �he chari�� has en�i�lemen� �o �he f�nds, i� is probable �ha� �he income �ill be recei�ed and �he amo�n� can be meas�red reliabl�.
Dona�ed facili�ies and dona�ed professional ser�ices are recognised in income a� �heir fair �al�e �hen �heir economic benefi� is probable, i� can be meas�red reliabl� and �he chari�� has con�rol o�er �he i�em. Fair �al�e is de�ermined on �he basis of �he �al�e of �he gif� �o �he chari��. For e�ample, �he amo�n� �he chari�� �o�ld be �illing �o pa� in �he open marke� for s�ch facili�ies and ser�ices. A corresponding amo�n� is recognised in e�pendi��re.
No amo�n� is incl�ded in �he financial s�a�emen�s for �ol�n�eer �ime in line �i�h �he SORP.
For legacies, en�i�lemen� is �he earlier of �he chari�� being no�ified of an impending dis�rib��ion or �he legac� being recei�ed. A� �his poin� income is recognised. On occasion legacies �ill be no�ified �o �he chari�� ho�e�er i� is no� possible �o meas�re �he amo�n� e�pec�ed �o be dis�rib��ed. On �hese occasions, �he legac� is �rea�ed as a con�ingen� asse� and disclosed.
Income from �rading ac�i�i�ies incl�des income earned from f�ndraising e�en�s and �rading ac�i�i�ies �o raise f�nds for �he chari��. Income is recei�ed in e�change for s�ppl�ing goods and ser�ices in order �o raise f�nds and is recognised �hen en�i�lemen� has occ�rred.
The chari�� recei�es go�ernmen� gran�s in respec� of hall ref�rbishmen�. Income from go�ernmen� and o�her gran�s are recognised a� fair �al�e �hen �he chari�� has en�i�lemen� af�er an� performance condi�ions ha�e been me�, i� is probable �ha� �he income �ill be recei�ed and �he amo�n� can be meas�red reliabl�. If en�i�lemen� is no� me� �hen �hese amo�n�s are deferred.
In�es�men� income is earned �hro�gh holding asse�s for in�es�men� p�rposes s�ch as shares and proper��. I� incl�des di�idends, in�eres� and ren�. Where i� is no� prac�icable �o iden�if� in�es�men� managemen� cos�s inc�rred �i�hin a scheme �i�h reasonable acc�rac� �he in�es�men� income is repor�ed ne� of �hese cos�s. I� is incl�ded �hen �he amo�n� can be meas�red reliabl�. In�eres� income is recognised �sing �he effec�i�e in�eres� me�hod and di�idend and ren� income is recognised as �he chari��'s righ� �o recei�e pa�men� is es�ablished.
E�penditure
Liabili�ies are recognised as e�pendi��re as soon as �here is a legal or cons�r�c�i�e obliga�ion commi��ing �he chari�� �o �ha� e�pendi��re, i� is probable �ha� a �ransfer of economic benefi�s �ill be req�ired in se��lemen� and �he amo�n� of �he obliga�ion can be meas�red reliabl�. E�pendi��re is acco�n�ed for on an accr�als basis and has been classified �nder headings �ha� aggrega�e all cos� rela�ed �o �he ca�egor�. Where cos�s canno� be direc�l� a��rib��ed �o par�ic�lar headings �he� ha�e been alloca�ed �o ac�i�i�ies on a basis consis�en� �i�h �he �se of reso�rces.

Fund accounting
Unres�ric�ed f�nds can be �sed in accordance �i�h �he chari�able objec�i�es a� �he discre�ion of �he �r�s�ees.
Res�ric�ed f�nds can onl� be �sed for par�ic�lar res�ric�ed p�rposes �i�hin �he objec�s of �he chari��. Res�ric�ions arise �hen specified b� �he donor or �hen f�nds are raised for par�ic�lar res�ric�ed p�rposes.
F�r�her e�plana�ion of �he na��re and p�rpose of each f�nd is incl�ded in �he no�es �o �he financial s�a�emen�s.
Pension costs and other post-retirement benefits
The chari�� opera�es a defined con�rib��ion pension scheme. Con�rib��ions pa�able �o �he chari��'s pension scheme are charged �o �he S�a�emen� of Financial Ac�i�i�ies in �he period �o �hich �he� rela�e.
Investments
In�es�men�s are recognised ini�iall� a� fair �al�e �hich is normall� �he �ransac�ion price e�cl�ding �ransac�ion cos�s. S�bseq�en�l�, �he� are meas�red a� fair �al�e �i�h changes recognised in 'ne� gains / (losses) on in�es�men�s' in �he SoFA if �he shares are p�blicl� �raded or �heir fair �al�e can o�her�ise be meas�red reliabl�.
