Chairman’s Report for 2024-5
We arranged for our records book, dating from 1612, to be examined with a view to restoration. Once the school became an Academy, our chattels were removed to Knowsley Hall, the home of our trustee, Lord Derby. His archivist recommended the Trustees look into having the book examined by experts in the field. It was arranged that the book would be removed to Lancashire County Archives, where it could be kept in climate-controlled conditions, with a view to a facsimile being made. Trustees wanted the important local history information contained within the book to eventually be accessible to the general public. We contacted the local Family History Society for their assistance in finding scholars to transcribe the book. This is ongoing.
During 2024-5 Trustees received a pleasing number of applications for funding from both current and past students, under the age of twenty-five. We made grants for pilot training, flights for doctors maintaining clinics in foreign countries, tools for apprentices, solicitors training modules, girl guide and scouts international trips and numerous laptops and computers, to name but a few.
It has been a great pleasure for trustees to have been able to support these young people and we will continue to do so, provided applications qualify for funding.
