INDEPENDENT AUDITOR'S REPORTTO THE MEMBERS OF THE BURY GRAMMAR SCHOOLS TRUSTEE LIMITED The e)rtent to which our procedures are capable of deterting Irregularitles, includlng fraud Our approach to identifying and assessing the risks of material misstatement in respect of irregularities, including fraud and non-compliance with laws and regulations, was a5 follows- the engagement partner ensured that the engagement team collectively had the appropriate competence, capabilitie5 3nd 5ki11s to identify or recognise noTrcompliance with appllcable laws and regulations: we focused on specific laws and regulationswhich we considered may have a direct material effect on the financial statements or the operations of the cornpany: and we assessed the extent of compliance wlth the taws and re8ulatlons thmu8h makln8 enqulrles of mana8ement. We a55essed the 5Usceptibility of the schools. financial statements to material mSsstatement, In¢ludln8 obtainlng an understanding of how fraud may occur. by. • making enquiries of management as to where they considered there was susceptibllty to fraud, their knowledge of actual. suspected and alleged fraud. and • considered the internal controls in place to miti8ate ri5k5 01 fraud and non-compllance wlth laws and regulations. To address the risk of fraud through mana8ement bias and override of controls, we: perfomied analytical procedures to Identify any unusual or unexperted relètlonshlps; tested Journal entries to identlfy unusual transaction In response to risk of irregularitie5 and non-compliance with laws and re8ulatSons. we deslgned procedures whlch included. but were not limited to.. greeing financial statement disdosures to underlying supporting documentètlon: readin8 the minutes of those charged with 8ovemance: and • enquirlng of management as to actual and potential Itti8ation and clalrns. Because of the inherent Ilmitations of an audit. there Is a risk that we wlll not detert all Irregularltles, Including those leadin8to a material misstatement in the financlal statements or non-compliance wrth regulation. This risk increases the more that compliance with a law or regulation is removed from the events and transartions reflected in the financial Statements. as we will be less Ilkely to become aware of instances of nonvcompliance. The risk is also 8reèter regardin8 irregularities occurring due to fraud rather than error. as fraud involves intentional concealmenL forgery. collusion, omisslon or misrepresentation. A further description of our responsibilities for the audit of the finantlal statementsls located on the Flnanclal Reporting Councll'5 website at: www.Ircorg.uk/oudltors/oudltors.Lissuronce/oudltOrs-responbxfrtle$-JOr-rhea0dltfj-the-flft0ThCl0I-5totefflents Thls descrfptlon forms part of our audltor'5 reporL 21
