Special thanks is also<br>given to Eric Walker who was awarded his 'Thanks' Badge<br>for his support and unwavering volunteering over the last 30<br>years and to Graham Barclay who received his Silver Thank<br>You badge.||

|Summary of the main<br>achievements of the charity,<br>identifying the difference the<br>charity’s work has made to<br>the circumstances of its<br>beneficiaries and any wider<br>benefits to society as a<br>whole.|Para 1.20|During the year members of the group have not only taken<br>part in a wide range of traditional Scout activities earning<br>awards and badges but also an interesting and diverse<br>programme of activities which have further enhanced<br>opportunities and experiences for the young people in the<br>local and wider area. The group ran a full range of indoor<br>and outdoor activities, including overnight, weekend and<br>week-long camps.<br>Beavers also enjoyed a night bowling, celebrated<br>chinese New Year, had a sleep-over in our hall, and<br>became very good at shouting help as they worked towards<br>their Emergency Aid Stage 1 badge.  Their efforts in<br>keeping our local community tidy by taking on litter picking<br>duties must also be noted.<br>The cubs also enjoyed hikes through Herrington Country<br>Park, participating in Durham Scouts Cubboree, and had a<br>fun filled weekend at Whit camp. They mastered the basics<br>of first aid, conquered heights at Durham Climbing Centre<br>and held their own unique 'drive in' movie night.<br>The scout section also had a great time at Whit camp<br>and also held a very successful week long summer camp at<br>Lake Bassenthwaite.  They  have also  participated in team<br>building activities, held camp fires and enjoyed Backwoods<br>cooking. They worked towards their world challenge awards<br>by taking part in activities from South Korea (the world Scot<br>Jamboree was held in South Korea this year). They<br>improved their map and compass skills and enjoyed a visit<br>to the beach.<br>They have also participated in several events organised at<br>District and County level including an incident hike and a<br>very muddy Confido.<br>All groups, along with the local community participated in<br>the Remembrance Day parade and laid the wreaths at the<br>local cenotaph. We also came together with the community<br>to hold the local 'Scarecrow Trail', supported the Sydney<br>Street Allotment Association Plant Sale and St Barnabus<br>Church Fayre.<br>A special well done also goes to the Explorers for<br>coming first in Durham University's Scout and Guide Group<br>Midnight Madness.<br>The Trustee Board has gained members with useful<br>skills and experience. The group has secured investment<br>and initiated projects to improve the HQ facilities for those<br>within scouting as well as for other community groups. The<br>group has ensured a stable financial footing for the coming<br>year through careful financial management and the efforts<br>of the fundraising team.|

The<br>Group through the capitation fees contributes to the Scout<br>Associations national accident insurance policy.
