Gioup Lgad Volunteers Annual Review2023
2023 was yei another busy year lor 1. Barry Sea Scout Gioup, this being my first full year as the
Lead Volunteer. All our sections met weekly, and in addition to their weekly meetings held
several other 8CtIVllies. be it hikes. shooting. boating or c8mping. My thanks go to the
leadership team who have enabled this to happen for our young people. on page 2 you will see
how many people access ScoLJting at 1" Barry. this number doesn't incluije ihe Smugglers
Explorer scouts, but they bring anoiher 20 members to the group on 8 weekly basis.
As you will seè from our accounts, we spend an enormous amount on ba(Xges. In lact in 2023 we
awarde(J 1270 Betivity badges to our members, gnd in addition several of oL+r m&rnbers

their section and with other members ol the group. During the same weekend, two members of
the group leadership team were to be found at Gilwell Park (the Home of UK Scoutingi,
supporting the Coronation of King Charles111.
In july, the Group supported the Annual Scout and Guide Fetg. including the attempt 8t & world
record, this is 8 significant fundraising event lor the group. as well 88 a fantastic opportunity tor
members both old and current to get together.
We held two going up events during the year, another opportunity to bring all our members
together. and il was brilliant to see these events supported so well by our young members and
their parents.
As a Sea Scout Group, one of our most important summer activities is boating. during the year
811 members had an opportuniiy to take part in a boating activity, with the m8in emphasis auring
the summer being lor the Scout Troop and Explorer Unit. They were able lo take part in activities
ai Cosmeston, 8oal Base and Old Harbour. as well as a boating programme on the main
summer camp in West Wales. Again, thanks should go to the Boating Partyfor the work they put
into boating. but in particular Chris Parr who plans and leads the Majority of sessions tor the
group. In September. the group held a social boating day lor all group members and their
families. this was verywell attended and we hope to be able to repeat the event in a similar
format in the luture.
To bring 2023 to a close. the group re-18unch8d Scout Post following the sad news ihat rhe
previous Area scheme would not restart, this proved to be very popular, despite only delivering
to Barry. and we didn't end up with 8s many cards for Other areas 8s was originally learedl
