## Beavers

2020

_Well it has been a strange twelve months. This time last year we were looking forward to the "Going Up Ceremony" and taking in the new Beavers._

_Then Covid struck and everything changed. We were unable to meet face to face as were all the sections. We were all dragged into the 21st century and Zoom meetings which we had never come across before. It has been a steep learning curve for all of us._

_What have we been doing over the last 12 months.? Well we have been where possible having weekly Zoom meetings and have a hard core of Beavers who attend most weeks. Others unfortunately have not taken part. When the Beavers have reached 8 years old they have been going up to Cubs. We have not been taking in any new Beavers._

## Beavers

2020

_Over the last 12 months we have all been learning new ways of operating and we have awarded over 100 badges. The Beavers have been fantastic with their parents in working on their badges as well as attending our Zoom meetings to achieve all these badges. They have all been great._

_Well looking to the future, when we start face to face meetings we will enrol the Children on our waiting list to increase our numbers._

## Cubs

## 2020

_The year started well with three months of normal meetings and the opportunity to carry out indoor badge work. The cubs were split by age group with the older group completing their pioneer and first aid badges. The younger section completed their skills challenge and road safety. A lot of the games and activities were based on problem solving as a team in order for the cubs to complete their Team Work Challenge award and the sixers their Leadership Challenge._

_Just before lockdown the cubs took part in the Area swimming gala and a strong team gained 3 trophies including the cub squad._

_With the start of the pandemic restrictions we moved to meetings on zoom before the summer break and the cubs started their communication badge and carried out challenges with equipment delivered to each cub. Most of the cubs built dens at home and slept on the floor to gain 2 nights for their adjusted nights away._

## Cubs

## 2020

_In September we were able to start meetings outdoors at Smugglers. Fortunately we have sufficient leaders to be able to split the pack in two and run two sessions with different leaders. We invested the new cubs who had joined us from Beavers during the lockdown. An investiture in the dark, in the yard and with only half the cubs present was not the same. We could not invite the parents in so took photographs for them._

## Cubs

## 2020

_The games and challenges in the yard were designed to keep the cubs moving so they did not get too cold. Fortunately we only suffered one rain shower._

_As restrictions eased we were allowed indoors but kept to the two sessions with a staggered start with one group upstairs and one group down. The cubs changed areas each week. This time we able to invest the new cubs indoors and again gave the parents photographs._

## Cubs

2020

_November was the Round The World Challenge with Lynda and Stuart walking 100 miles and raising funds with support from family and friends. Added to this various cubs took on the challenge and overall the cub section raised £659 all of which went to the Scout Association appeal._

_During the year, with excellent support from all of the cub leaders, who accepted the challenge during unusual_

_circumstances we were able to present the following badges:-_

_6 Chief Scout Silver Awards_

_33 Challenge Awards_

_73 Activity and Staged Activity badges_

## Scouts

## Jan & Feb 2020

_To Celebrate Chinese New Year we had an Evening based on Celebrating the Chinese Culture._

_February included a trip to watch the Blues play and some new taps being fitted in Smuggs which needed the power reducing._

## 2020

_Scouts also had an activity weekend at Cae Glas, including a night walk to Mcdonalds, design your own campsite, bird box making. A trip to the Trampoline Park was added in because of Storm Dennis (not Mottram)_

## March to June (Lockdown)

## 2020

_When Lockdown came and all meetings were stopped by the Scout Association a big adjustment was needed at 1st Barry. All meetings went online via Zoom. The Scout Leaders delivered an activity pack to each of the Scouts including Maps, a Compass, a magnet, various sizes of dowling, bandages, rope and some origami instructions. Equipment to make a bridge, a boat so we could do ‘Parts of a Boat’ and a wind propelled car. In addition to the Zoom Call we set some badgework to be completed at home._

## March to August (Lockdown)

## 2020

_As Smugglers was not being used some changes/ improvements were made. 2 skips were ordered and as much rubbish was disposed of as possible. A bigger room was created downstairs, additional toilet facilities were added and a very useful window was put in the wall of the Barn. The Barn also benefited from a new floor as did the downstairs corridor. And some of the Patrol Rooms. Virtually every internal wall was painted by Stuart and his team. The building was much improved when we were next able to use it._

## **1[st] Barry Sea Scouts**

## **Account – 31[st] December 2020**

## **Accountants Report**

I have reviewed the financial statements of the 1[st] Barry Sea Scouts set out on pages 1-4 comprising a summary of receipts and payments in respect of the year to 31[st] December 2020 and a statement of assets as of 31[st] December 2020.

The 1[st] Barry Sea Scout Group’s system of internal control is dependent upon the goodwill and integrity of the officers and trustees of the group and relies upon the officers and trustees acting in the best interest of the Group. In this regard evidence was not available to support elements of receipts and payments.

The fixed assets disclosed in the Statement of Assets reflect the values estimated by the Group’s officers and trustees based on insurance values. These values do not necessarily reflect the values that these assets could realise in the open market.

The title to the buildings disclosed in the Statement of Assets is held in the name of the trustees of the Group and retained by The Scout Association.

The accounts are in agreement with the groups underlying books and records and the bank balance and investments disclosed in the Statement of Assets agree with the bank and Scout Association statements.
