Weekly meetings are held during school
term time for the four sections of girls:
Rainbows (age 4-7), Brownies (age 7-10),
Guides (age 10-14) and Rangers (age 14-
18). Each section has a customised
programme to follow issued by Girlguiding
UK. Outings, events, section fun days and
camps (both indoor and under canvas) may
be held at weekends and during the school
holidays. There is ongoing recruitment of
members, both girls and adult volunteers to
run units. Trainings (Safe Space, First Aid,
Going Away With, Programme specific etc)
are organised for adult volunteers both

Assistant Leaders or unit helpers for

responsibilities or help out with service and

Girlguiding UK - an organisation with more
than 300,000 members across the UK. We
are part of the UK’s largest youth
organisation dedicated to girls and young
women, which exists to help girls discover
the best in themselves and empower them
to make a positive difference in the world.
We are part of a global movement of about
10 million girls and women.
Our ability to hold meetings on zoom and
share information electronically was
something we picked up over the covid
years and has continued to be of benefit,
especially to facilitate planning meetings
when leaders live in rural areas.
The County celebrated Girlguiding’s
Thinking Day in February at Plas Arthur
Sports hall, Llangefni where there was
dancing, singing, engineering type activities
for Rainbows, Brownies & Guides; this
brought all section ages from across the
Isle of Anglesey to join together and make
new friends.| The Spring and Summer months saw the different sections take part in their annual sleepovers and camps, where girls learn independence and take part in fun skills for the future (e.g. looking after themselves; general housekeeping, cooking skills and nature walks and the stars at night to name but a few) County Rainbow Sleepover at Felin Bach, Caernarvonshire – aged 4- 7yrs; County Guide sleepover at Felin Bach, Caernarfonshire aged 10-14yrs. Beaumaris Brownies enjoyed a sleepover at Anglesey Guide Centre, and Benllech Brownies had a pack holiday there with 1st Anglesey Brownies. June - Summer solstice celebrations at Anglesey Guide Centre, Lligwy, Anglesey where Guides, Brownies & Rainbows come together to sing campfire songs and sleep under the stars. August - County Camp with Guides & Brownies at Ynys Gain, Criccieth where the girls learn the skills of outdoor cooking and take part in water sport activities. A mapping day at Anglesey Guide Centre was run for Brownies & Guides by ‘Play Disrupt’. September, Guides took part in a Street Dance workshop organised by Girlguiding Cymru in Wrexham, where girls were able to try out a new form of dance and learn new skills whilst mixing with other girls from across North Wales. October half term Guides (aged 10-14yrs) from across Anglesey came together for a sleepover at Anglesey Guide Centre Lligwy to chillax and have fun. November saw our annual Ramble in the Dark where Rainbows (1-7yrs) walk 1.5km, Brownies (7-10yrs) 3km and Guides (1014yrs) 5km all in the dark for charity All units took part in the various Remembrance Sunday services & parades across Anglesey. December – local volunteers arranged Christmas Crafts for all Rainbows, Brownies & Guides from across Anglesey at Talwrn village hall, Llangefni There were visits to RNLI & Fire stations during weekly meeting sessions and visits by the Police, RSPB; Hedgehog Protection and local MP. During the year, the county commissioner was invited to many unit meetings where girls were presented with bronze, silver, and sometimes their gold theme awards. These represent a lot of effort by leaders to follow the guiding programme in their meetings, and of parents in supporting the girls at home.
