We are part of the UK's
largest charity for girls and young women
which exists to help girls discover the best
in themselves

our programme
to give girls and|
||||||young women a space where they can be|
||||||themselves,
have fun, build

||||||In March 2020, at the time ofthe first|

lockdown,
we wondered

would survive
without
our weekly|

the weekly meetings
stopped,||

|Girlguiding
continued.||
|Within our homes, we displayed
candles|in|
|our windows
on Sunday evenings
between||
|19:10and 20:10to remember
the first 100||
|years of Girlguiding
(1910—2010). Some||
|members
wore their uniform
for the weekly||
|'clap for carers'.
Leaders kept in contact|by|
|emailing
or posting
activities to girls
in their||
|units.||
|Girlguiding
UK quickly launched||
|'Adventures
at Home' on You Tube, and||
|held an online Girlguiding
Festival
in May.||
|Girlguiding
Cymru launched
the Presidents||
|Challenge
and Broneirion
Bounce Back||
|Challenge
to keep us active and engaged||
|with the rest ofWales.||
|Girlguiding
Anglesey
received a grant from||
|a local authority
Covid Response
Fund||
|towards
a Summer
mailshot
which||
|acknowledged
the impact on the mental||
|health of girls and volunteers
and||
|suggested
activities to do at home.||
|Over the summer,
a few units met again—||
|first outdoors
and then indoors.
One||
|rainbow wore her uniform
all weekend||
|before her first meeting as she was so||
|excited.||
|But we mainly stayed online, such as for||
|the scavenger
hunt at the Summer Solstice||
|instead of our usual campfire at Anglesey||
|Guide Centre.||
|In November
we received a further grant for||
|a second mailshot
in which we sent||
|information
to parents
/ carers, and invited||
|girls to our first virtual sleepover:
'Wildlife|in|
|Winter'.
Girls made their own 'dens' to||
|sleep in, and activities were suggested
for||
|them to do at home.
Some joined
in the||
|Zoom meetings,
and girls snuggled
down|in|
|their home-made
'dens' for a bedtime story||
|read by one oftheir leaders.||
|Towards the end ofthe year, some||
|Rainbows
had a visit from Father||
|Christmas
on their Zoom meeting,||
|Girlguiding
UK organised
an online Panto,||
|and we had a Winter Solstice Zoom call||
|with members
of BGO from England,||
|Wales, France, Sweden,
Turkey,
Malaysia.||
|Creating exceptional
experiences
for girls||
|and
oun
women was reall
challen
in||
|under the restrictions
of2020, but our|||
|---|---|---|
|volunteer
leaders rose to the challenge.|||
|Rewarding
volunteer
experience|||
|Plans to meet other leaders at conferences|||
|and residential
events were cancelled|in||
|2020, and leaders adapted
to Zoom.
The|||
|quality
of our online conferences
and|||
|trainings
was excellent,
which makes us|||
|feel supported
as volunteers
with|||
|Girlguiding.|||
|During 2020, there were trainings
for|||
|commissioners
on being a Trustee,|||
|Property
Management,
Communicating|||
|effectively
and Managing
conflict.|||
|2020 was also the year when Safe Space|||
|training
was brought
up to date for all|||
|volunteers.
Each volunteer
or occasional|||
|helper
in contact with girls had to complete|||
|the level of safeguarding
training
needed|||
|for their role, and the training
team put||in a|
|huge amount
of effort to provide enough|||
|courses for everyone.|||
|But it's not all trainings
and work in|||
|Girlguiding.
Adult volunteers
had some|||
|social events —quizzes and short, socially-|||
|distanced
walks.
We joined
in various|||
|challenges
such as the Girlguiding|||
|Pembrokeshire
walk to Broneirion,
the|||
|GGCymru
Presidents
Challenge
and the|||
|Broneirion Bounce Back. These|||
|challenges
gave a reason to go out for|daily||
|walks during
lockdowns
which had a|||
|positive impact on our wellbeing.|||
|We were aware that 2020 was very difficult|||
|for our volunteers,
and always emphasised|||
|that no-one should feel under pressure||to|
|do more than they feel able to. The year|||
|emphasised
that we need more volunteers|||
|to build supportive
and friendly teams|||
|around each unit.|||
|Volunteering
to do something
for others||is|
|known to have a positive impact on our|||
|wellbeing.
We need volunteers
not just||to|
|work with the girls
in units,
but in supportive|||
|roles such as treasurers,
administrators,|||
|commissioners
or team leaders, and|||
|people to clean equipment
before 8 after|||
|each meeting!|||
|Inclusive and impacfful|||
|The third theme
in the Girlguiding's
new|||
|Strategy is about telling people what we||do.|
|During 2020, information
was regularly||

|shared
with volunteers
in a newsletter
sent||
|by email.
Itwas meant to be issued each||
|term, but was sent each month
during
the||
|lockdown,
just to offer support
and||
|encouragement.||
|We planned
improvements
to our online||
|presence
during the year, with the||
|development
of a bilingual
website for the||
|County
and launched
on St David's
Day||
|2021. The regular posts on our public||
|Facebook Page can now be read from the||
|website
by anyone
not on social media.||
|We were unable to use Anglesey
Guide||
|Centre, our County house
in the old||
|National
School near Penrhoslligwy.
The||
|Centre Manager
and her team did many||
|maintenance
and improvement
projects||
|there, and during the summer
it was||
|opened
for families and small groups to||
|use.||
|At our Annual
Review of2020 {held online||
|in 2021), all our leaders
in 2020 received|a|

in recognition
that they had||
