**Preparing young people with skills for life**

## _**19[th] North Leeds (St Chad’s) Scout Group**_

## **Annual Report - 1[st] April 2024 to 31[st] March 2025**

This was another busy year of scouting at St Chad’s.

As well as a weekly programme of varied indoor and outdoor activities our young people took part in several County, District and Group organised events this year including the District Cycling event in April, Junior Warrior in June, Festive Fundays, District Scout Frosty camp, the County Cub pantomime trip and our annual group trip to Leeds Playhouse in January and Group camp in June. These events provide valuable opportunities for interaction with scouting members from other Groups and Districts, and the chance to take part in activities a single group cannot provide. We are grateful to the District and County teams who have given their time and skills to provide the varied programme of events.

Other highlights of the year include:

## **Squirrels**

- 3 Squirrels achieving their Acorn Award

- Earning a total of 167 badges

## **Beavers**

- 16 Beavers achieving their Chief Scout Bronze award

- Earning a total of 277 badges

## **Cubs**

- Olympic themed camp at Snowball Plantation campsite in September

- Science themed indoor weekend at Fanwood campsite in March

- 18 Cubs achieving their Chief Scout Silver award

- Earning a total of 1037 badges

## **Scouts**

- 6-night camp at Waddecar Scout campsite in July and a hostel weekend at Curly Hill campsite in March

- 2 teams competing in the 6 Dales Walk with one team winning the Junior Novice trophy

- Earning a total of 263 badges

## **Group Trustees**

The Scout Group has increased its membership and maintained an acceptable financial position this year. The Group is supported by a Board of Trustees: Neville Fell (Chairman), Andy Cooper (Treasurer), Rachel Fogg, Lesley Connor, Manjit McKenzie and Zoe Hinchliffe.

Nick Russell (former treasurer) and Paul Cammegh stood down as trustees after the last AGM. The Group is grateful for the many years they contributed to the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees.

## **Group section volunteers**

We welcomed several new adult volunteers during the year – Michelle McCabe in Squirrels, Dipti Desai and James Murphy in Beavers, Kartik Prabhu and Helen Slater in Cubs.

We were sad to say ‘Goodbye’ to Niall Copeland, Liz Jenkins and Adam Bell who moved away from Leeds.

Details of the regular leader team during the year can be found in the table on the next page. We also have a pool of adult volunteers who can’t regularly help with weekly meetings but can support on camps and other events when they are able to. Our thanks go to Adam Bell, Alex Pearson, Susan Milestone, Shamine Harding, Oliver and Charlotte Harding-Jeans, Jamie Hayter, David Dewhurst and Matthew Simpson.

All sections rely on parents and Young Leaders helping at the weekly meetings and we are very grateful for their continued help and support. We are also lucky to have a group of DBS checked parents who help more regularly and provide additional adult supervision on trips and camps.

## **We are very short of regular volunteer leaders in all sections. To comply with the required adult to young person ratios and to ensure safety during weekly meetings and other activities we will be focussing on adult recruitment over the next few months.**

The Group would again like to thank our vicar, Hannah, the PCC, the Parish Centre Management Committee and the caretaker John for their continued help and support.
