Trustee Board Chair's Report
The 2023- 2024 year has seen the Group flourish. The Leaders across Beavers, Cubs and
Scouts have worked incredibly hard to provide a varied and interesting programme of
events. This includes the planning to open a Squirrel dray for 4 -6 years olds due to open in
April 2024. A big welcome to the new Leaders who have joined and will make this happen.
We aLso supportthe HaLesowen District ExpLorer Scout Group and run the Duke of
Edinburgh award scheme for young peopLe, and they can progress from Bronze to Gold.
The Scouting journey for young people for 4 to 18 lets them Learn many life skills , have
many adventures and grow in confidence , which will help to succeed in Life and have
Lifelong fantastic memories.
The success and popularity of I" Halesowen Scout Group is due to all the volunteers.
Leaders and helpers, who plan, organise and run meetings. In addition. behind the scenes,
we have the Trustee Board, made up of leaders and parents of members (past and presentl
who ensure that the group remains solvent, adheres to child welfare and safety rules and
follows Scouting principles. This includes fund raising activities to ensure that we can
continue to invest in the group for future young people and keep membership fees as low
as possible.
1st Halesowen, through the hard work and diligent work of the Leaders and the Trustees,
remains financially strong. However we have plans for the future, including extending the
stores area due to the large and growing amount of equipment we have and also the on-
going maintenance, repair and renewal of the Scout Centre premises.
The membership subscription income just covers the day to day running cost of the centre.
We have to undertake fundraising to cover aLI the extra costs so the young people can have
a fuLI experience.
We have raised money overthe past year by organising Craft Fayres, a Race Night and also
providing outside catering at a number of Dog Agility Shows around the Midlands. This is
aLI done by a small and very tierd group of volunteers who gladly give up their time, and
hard work so subscriptions costs are kept as Low as possible for the benefit of the young
members and their families.
Please supportthese events. A little help goes a long way. Ultimately, for the volunteers,
all the events and group nights provide a lot of personal satisfaction and are very
rewarding.
Without this group of volunteers there would be no 1st Halesowen Scout Group.
Please volunteer and help, in whatever way, Large or small, so that we can keep our
subscriptions fees as Low as possibLe. If our fund raising activities become too much for our
tired volunteers. then subs WILI uLtimateLy increase to cover the cost of proving the full and
varied Scouting experience.
Happy Scouting.

Group Lead Volunteer, Report
Who is this Group Lead VoLunteer? Oh yes. it's me; that's my new titLe- I'm no
Longer a Group Scout Leader.
What a year we have had, so many activities IsLeepovers, camps. magic,
experiments, cLimbing, fire Lighting, archery, waLks Ihikesl to name but a few,
completed in aLL sections. TaLking of sections, earlier this year we opened our
SquirreL Drey14 and 5 year olds). I wouLd Like to weLcome our new SquirreLs,
voLunteer Leaders, Cheryl, CLaire, Amy, SteLla and moving sections Sarah MILIS
Ifrom Tromans Cubs) and CaroLine Betteridge (from ShackLeton Cubs). Without
their commitment we wouLdn't have been abLe to open the new section.
Our other sections Scouts, two Cub Packs and Beaver CoLony continue to go
from strength to strength, however new blood (new voLunteersl are always
needed, particularly as many of the existing sections have Leaders who have
passed retirement age or are coming up to it. At some stage they may wish to
retire from Scouting or at Least take a step backwards.
I wouLd Like to weLcome Sam to Tromans Cub pack and wish Joe from Scouts alL
the very best as he has decided to step away from Scouting. Jess has stepped
down from a Beaver Leader to an occasional Leader due work commitment, we
won't be Losing her though. she WILL stilL be around.
This year WILI see many changes to our Leadership roLes, to the roLes of the
executive committee (now Trustees) and to our training scheme. I know that all
the voLunteers who work tireLessLy for the group will rise to the chaLlenge.
As a group we rely heavily on our fundraising to keep our head above water and
run the group so that the youngsters invoLved can experience the best of
Scouting. To this end we have taken charge of the catering at some dog agiLity
events. These involve volunteers giving up a lot of their personaL time/hoLidays
to raise money towards the group funds. We continue to run other fundraising
events and appreciate your support at these.
Thank you to aLL the Leaders for everything that you have done and continue to
do and to the Executive Committee who work tireLessLy to keep the centre in
good working order. Thank you to you aLL.
FinaLLy thank you to Paul who looks after aLL our GDPR poLicies and DBS
applications. and keeps me sane.
Yours in Scouting,
