Scouting takes place when young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and they : - - Enjoy what they are doing & have fun - Take part in activities indoors & outdoors - Learn by doing - Work in groups - - Take increasing responsibility for others & make choices - Participate in varied and progressive activities - Make & live out their Promise. ## both the advancement of education & the advancement of citizenship or community development headings. The Group has in place systems of risk & internal controls that are designed to provide reasonable assurance against material mismanagement or loss, these include two signatories for all payments & a comprehensive insurance policies to ensure that insurable risks are covered. The Groups governing documents are those of the Scout Association. They consist of a Royal Charter, which in turn gives authority to the Bye Laws of the Association & the Policy, Organisation & Rules of the Scout Association. ## **Structure, governance & management** The Group is managed by the Group Board of Trustees, the members of which are the ‘Charity Trustees’ of the Scout Group which is an educational charity. As charity trustees they are responsible for complying with legislation applicable to charities. This includes the registration, keeping proper accounts & making returns to the Charity Commission as appropriate. The Committee consists of independent representatives, Chair and Treasurer together with elected representation & meets every 3 months, where policies & procedures are adopted for:- - - The insurance of persons, property & equipment. - District public occasions. - Consideration of major risks & the systems & procedures to manage them. This Trustees Board exists to support the Group’s Leaders in meeting the responsibilities of the appointments & is responsible for:- - Assisting the recruitment of leaders & other adult support. - Appointing any sub committees that may be required. - Appointing District administrators / advisors other than those who are elected. ## **Reserves Policy** su�icient resources to continue the charitable activities of the Group should income and fundraising activities fall short. ## **Group Report** 2023 was another very busy year. All sections have very healthy numbers, and we have a waiting list for Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs. 2022 saw the opening of our Squirrels Drey. In June we took the whole group to Blackwell Adventure to join the District Camp. It was a fabulous weekend. It is great to see each section giving their young people opportunities to attend other nights away activities as well as providing an exciting programme week in and week out. During 2023 we discussed making improvements to the hut/garage with the intention of a garage build first, then a side extension, followed by an additional extension on the back. This would give us better storage for our equipment and more space in the hut for activities. The opportunity arose for us to apply for a grant for all the works, through the Youth Investment Fund. Unfortunately, that application was not successful, but it did support us in obtaining planning permission for the works. We were successful in receiving a smaller refurbishment grant which will be used to refit the toilets and lobby. We are now back to plan A looking to complete the alterations in three tranches and are on the lookup for opportunities to apply for monies. Ideally, we need to start the works within the next two years, to keep the planning permission alive. Watch this space! having fun, making new friends. We have said farewell to a couple of leaders during 2023 but we have also welcomed in others.
