Each week, a scout and cub also help. The squirrels have attended County Squirrel Day, District Camp, two joint evenings with Wellington squirrels and have been litter picking around the local area, which ended in a visit to the ice cream shop. We have had squirrels attending St George’s Day and Remembrance Day. In December, we held a Christmas sleepover, which was well attended. We made sleighs for our ‘drive-in’ cinema, made pizzas and had a fabulous Christmassy time. We have had a Mother’s Day night where our special females were treated to cake and biscuit decorating, and we have had a Father’s Day night which included our dads and grandads making bird feeders. Over the year, our squirrels have achieved many of the activity and challenge badges including: Exciting Experiments, Be Active, Feel Good, Go Wild, Space Explorer, Storytime and Local Superhero. Each week, the squirrels enjoy open play, a story, games and activities related to a theme or badge. We have had a number of squirrels transitioning to beavers, one of which had achieved their Acorn Award. In the coming year, we will be encouraging our squirrels to take part in Burdi Boys, they are eager to have more sleepovers and continue to work towards their Acorn Award. Gemma Millins 105[th] Werrington Beavers AGM Report April 2024- March 25 The past year has seen an enjoyable and productive time for the Beavers’ section, filled with a variety of activities and events that have greatly benefitted our young members. The year began with an array of meetings that not only focused on essential skills, such as gardening badge work and team sports, but also embraced cultural celebrations, like Chinese New Year and Burns Night. The Beavers have had the opportunity to engage in numerous community-orientated activities including litter picking, a visit to a Food Bank, where we took some donated tins etc. and the Beavers were divided up and in their teams, were asked to find enough food to make up food parcels for a family for 2 days. This was an excellent exercise in getting the Beavers to think of **----- Start of picture text -----**
various foods required for a family with a baby and other teams were given slightly different
scenarios. (i.e., a family with a different number of children). All the Beavers enjoyed the visit and
made very good choices of food for each family. This visit was part of the new Youth Shape Award
and led by Lauren. Another community visit we made was to a local fire station, which further
instilled a sense of responsibility and civic pride.
Among other notable events, the District Jumbo Sleepover was a significant highlight, where our
Beavers had the chance to meet with peers from different groups, followed by the much-anticipated
Lapland, Liverpool trip that truly ignited the festive spirit in all participants. Christmas celebrations at
St. Phillips Church were particularly special, led by the Scout section, reinforcing the collaboration
between the sections at Werrington Scout Group. Additionally we have seen engagement in events
such as St. George’s Parade and Easter tubing, each providing unique experiences outside the usual
meeting environment.
The past year also marked a significant transition for some of our members. We have bid farewell to
a total of 15 Beavers, who have successfully swum up to Cubs during this year, demonstrating the
growth and progression within our Scouting family. Their contribution to our section has been
invaluable, and they will certainly be missed.
We are pleased to report that in total 9 children have made the leap from Squirrels to Beavers,
welcoming them into our enthusiastic section. The numbers for these transitions are testament to
the positive environment we’ve cultivated together.
I would like to take a moment to extend my deepest gratitude to all Beaver leaders: Kirsty, Katie,
Jenette and Lauren, for their dedication throughout the year. Special thanks also go to our Young
Leaders: Charlotte and Alex, who have gained invaluable experience and confidence working with

the beavers, enriching Beaver activities. Furthermore, we appreciate all our parent helpers, especially Phillippe, who have tirelessly supported us in the smooth running of meetings and events. Looking forward we are excited about the upcoming year filled with many more scouting activities which promise to engage and inspire our young members. It will be another chance for them to develop new skills and make lasting memories. Finally, I would like to express a heartfelt thank you to all the Beavers for their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn, which brings joy to all leaders and makes each session a rewarding experience. Likewise, our appreciation goes to the parents for their consistent support and to all volunteers who help keep our group running smoothly behind the scenes. We look forward to another wonderful year ahead in Scouting. Jenny Walker. ## 105[th] Werrington Cubs AGM Report April 2024 to March 25 It has been another lively year for our Cubs, brimming with engaging meetings and delightful events that have enhanced the Scouting experience for all young members. A variety of activities focused on building essential skills and fostering teamwork were prevalent, from earning badges in disciplines like Gardening and Cooking to Disability Awareness, which encouraged understanding and inclusivity among our Cubs. Meetings such as the Outdoor 24, Sportsmanship sessions, and the recent Mental Health segments have provided valuable lessons while ensuring a fun and supportive environment for everyone involved. **----- Start of picture text -----**
Additionally, we have enjoyed some memorable outings throughout the year. The Peak Water Sports
event allowed our Cubs to connect with nature while trying out exciting water activities, and it was
followed by the Elf Sleepover, which filled our Cubs' hearts with joy through festive activities. Our
participation in community events such as Remembrance Sunday and the St George’s Day Parade
highlighted our commitment to serving and remembering the greater community. The District Camp
was particularly significant, where our Cubs experienced camping together, building bonds and
memories that will last a lifetime.
This year, our Cubs also explored local opportunities, such as pizza making at the Ashbank, which not
only taught cooking skills but also provided a fun atmosphere for teamwork and creativity. A visit to
the Potteries Museum offered an enriching experience, as Cubs immersed themselves in local
knowledge and history, further enhancing their understanding of their surroundings.
We extend our gratitude to all leaders for their unwavering support and hard work throughout the
year. Their dedication has ensured the smooth running of our meetings and events, creating a
nurturing and productive setting for our Cubs. Special thanks to those who organised specific events,
particularly the Christmas Fun and the Easter Treat - Tubing, which were decidedly popular among
the Cubs.
As we look forward, there are still exciting adventures on the horizon for our Cubs, with plans for
further meetings and activities in the coming year designed to cultivate their enthusiasm for
Scouting and help them develop new skills.
Lastly, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all the Cubs for been amazing, which brings joy to our
meetings. A special acknowledgement goes to the parents for their continued support, as well as the
Leaders who work diligently behind the scenes to keep our group thriving. A massive thank you to
Ruth, Laura, Lisa, Will, Darcy and Big well done to Jude for stepping up as a young leader and

Ceris Walker ## 105[th] Werrington Scout Group AGM Report April 2024 – March 25 Over the past year, our scout group has engaged in a variety of enriching meetings and memorable events. A notable key point to mention is the effective training in map reading skills that our children underwent, allowing them to plan a route from their given destination to Consall Scout Camp. This is a significant achievement that enhances their navigation and planning skills. Our meetings have been diverse, covering everything from water sports and cooking to teambuilding exercises and safety training. The discussions included topics on fitness, home skills, and even creative sessions like cake baking for Founders Day. Each meeting aimed to build both practical skills and a sense of teamwork among the scouts. Additionally, sessions like 'Know your knots, lashings' and 'Knife axe saw safety' were essential in ensuring that our scouts are well-prepared for outdoor adventures. Throughout the year, the group participated in several activities as well. Highlights included Water Sports Night, Abseiling at Millers Dale, and the Archery & Shooting Camp, which spanned over three days. Events such as the District Raft Race and the Remembrance Sunday activities not only promoted teamwork but also instilled a sense of respect and community. The various camps, including our recent trip to Consall, provided invaluable experiences for our children, allowing them to bond and apply what they have learned in a practical environment. We were pleased to present Two Chief Scout Awards this year, recognising the dedication and hard work of a member who exemplified the values of scouting. I would like to extend sincere thanks to all our leaders for their commitment over the last year. Their continuous support and guidance have been instrumental in ensuring that our scouts receive a wellrounded and enjoyable programme. Looking ahead, our scouts can look forward to an exciting trip to Rowan in Wales. This adventure promises to be filled with new experiences and learning opportunities for everyone involved. In conclusion, I want to thank all the children for making the scouting experience enjoyable for the leaders. Their enthusiasm and energy bring life to our meetings and activities. I would also like to express gratitude to the parents for their unwavering support and to all the volunteers involved in running the group. We look forward to another successful year of scouting. Ash Bradshaw ## 105[th] Werrington Explorers AGM report April 24 – March 24 This year has seen a number of achievements and activities that have enriched the experience of our Explorers. Notably, many participants have engaged in the Duke of Edinburgh awards programme, which fosters personal development and teamwork among the young members. They have dedicated time to planning, leading, and completing various challenges, demonstrating commitment and growth. Throughout the year, regular meetings provided opportunities to enhance skills **----- Start of picture text -----**
and knowledge. The range of meetings included D of E sessions, welcome back
events, creative nights and more, all designed to engage the Explorers and
prepare them for upcoming challenges. Some highlights included the baking
nights, night navigation and sleepovers.
The Explorers also had the opportunity to participate in several outdoor events
that allowed them to hone their practical skills while having fun. The inclusion of
events such as the RAF Cosford Camp and the Archery & Shooting Camp was
particularly well-received. Participants also took part in community events like
the Remembrance Parade and Carol Service, which fostered a sense of duty and
remembrance.
As part of the annual activities, the district camp held in May was an opportunity
for participants to connect with peers from other units and work together,
promoting teamwork and camaraderie. This camp was held around exam time
for a lot of our Explorers and it was a well deserved opportunity for down time
where they participated in various activities including water sports.
Looking ahead, the group anticipates a continued busy year filled with more
activities and opportunities to collaborate with other units. This will surely
enhance the experience of all members and help in building a stronger

community. We have recently handed some responsibility over to the Explorers to get them to plan their own meetings and have more input. More recently we have moved back to basics with some skills and some fun was had during the warm weather where shelter building was tested with water balloons. We also bid farewell to a few Explorers who have reached the age of 18. They are taking a break before they come back as leaders, and their contributions will be missed as they take this next step. We look forward to welcoming them back into the fold in their new roles. In closing, I'd like to express our gratitude to all of our Leaders for their dedication and hard work over the past year. Your commitment ensures the success of our Explorers. Thank you to the children for making this journey enjoyable and engaging, and to the parents for your continuous support, as well as all the volunteers who assist in running the group behind the scenes. We look forward to another fulfilling year in scouting ahead. ## Brownies AGM Report ## 2024 - 2025 The Brownies have been working hard throughout the year to earn their badges. A special highlight came at Christmas, when two of our Brownies achieved their Gold Awards – the highest award a Brownie can earn. This is a fantastic accomplishment, requiring the completion of all six Theme Awards before moving on to Guides. Currently, the girls are working towards their Skills for My Future Theme Award. As part of this, they’ve been learning about Beatrix Potter – exploring her life, her writing, and her contributions to farming and conservation in the Lake District. During this theme, we also held a cultural event where the Brownies explored different languages, tasted foods from around the world, and discovered interesting facts and landmarks related to various countries. The girls have also been giving back to the community by supporting the local Methodist Church, creating decorative doves and Christmas wreaths to be displayed during the festive season. Looking ahead, the Brownies are very excited for a day out at Magical Midlands – a county event filled with fun activities including bungee trampolining, climbing, archery, a silent disco, and ending with a live concert. This year, the Guides & Rangers have been very busy learning about the importance of upcycling &
saving discarded objects from going into landfill. We have been getting creative making flowers &
vases from tins & egg cups. We've been painting cd’s to create garden decorations and ‘building a
beast’ from recyclable materials. We’ve celebrated pancake day & Chinese New Year – trying out
different cuisines. We have explored the importance of flood defenders; the girls created their own
mini village then flooded it. They then used different materials to build flood defenders to see the
impact these made when flooding happened again. We enjoyed a ‘cook out’, in which the girls
cooked their own burgers & sausages on the BBQ then toasted marshmallows for smores
(everyone’s favourite part!) The Guides are going to ‘Magical Midlands’ in July where they will visit
the ‘Xtreme, Xcite & Xplore’ zones. They will have the opportunity to access a wide range of
activities, including archery, rock climbing, axe throwing, inflatables, fairground rides, performing
arts and much more. The finale of the day will include Disney Princesses, Abba Mania & Taylor Swift.

Please ensure that you are aware of when you are helping. Finances in order to provide a scouting environment for your child we must
raise funds on a regular basis. The only funds we receive regularly are your
child’s termly subscription fees. Out of these funds we must pay for weekly
activities, badges, hall running costs, Scout Hall maintenance costs & repairs
and an annual membership fee to Scout Headquarters which covers items such
as Scout Insurance. Therefore, we would appreciate any support you can offer
at any of our fund-raising events.
Fundraising We try to arrange many fund-raising events throughout the year.
Please look out for and read any email, letters or notes that are sent home, as
these will give you more details of each event together with the dates, times
and how you can help and get involved.
Staf Fund Raising Does your Company offer extra money when you raise
