Achievements & Performance
2020-2021
Outputs and outcomes for the charity’s beneficiaries
Pembrokeshire YFC have offered a wide and varied programme of activities and calendar of events for its members along with the wider general public, despite the restrictions imposed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. A successful County Rally was held where it was possible to welcome members of the public to spectate and enjoy the offerings of our members through competitions and activities. Many other activities were adapted to a virtual online format, through social media channels and video call platforms, most of these open and available to members of the movement and to the public at large.
These activities and competitions contributed to the learning, leisure, community and environmental activities and achievements of YFC members, and to the public at large in their knowledge of agriculture, crafts, life skills, rural affairs and country life. Further information can be found in the Yearbook.
How the public have benefitted
The charity recruits its members from a significant section of the community at large. Everyone aged 10 to 26 years can be a member of Pembrokeshire YFC in order to participate in activities and discussions that increase their knowledge of agriculture, crafts rural affairs and country life. The charity actively recruits its members, aged 10 to 26 years, from the County of Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas.
The County Federation’s activities also contribute to and create leisure activities for members and on occasion for the rural community in which the charity
operates. The community around the charity benefits from our members being active citizens that contribute to the rural community.
Members volunteer many hours to their local communities, charitable causes and other organisations within their locality and the County. Clubs meet on a weekly basis, and Officials and leaders volunteer their time to run club activities and meetings, holding fundraising events and community work.
Trustee Development
Trustees are encouraged to participate in development opportunities provided by the Pembrokeshire Federation, Wales YFC and the NFYFC as and when appropriate.

County President’s report
s I am writing this report, I cannot believe that my year as county A president is coming towards the end, in what has been a most challenging time for the movement. I would like to congratulate all the clubs for holding their club nights via our best friend zoom. We recorded our annual county harvest festival which was shared on social media. I was delighted to be able to use sign language to the song ‘Thank you’. It was also lovely to be able to record and share a Christmas message on social media with the members. Also, taking part in the live feed for the crowing and chairing ceremony in the eisteddfod. It was also nice to see each club take part in our welly challenge - I never knew there were so many different interpretations of the challenge with a welly! A huge well done to Gwyndaf Lewis of Hermon YFC on his amazing challenge in running around all 12 clubs in 3 days - 97 miles in total and raising over a £1,000 for the County. Most of our competitions were held on zoom this year, I was thrilled and delighted that we were one of the few counties in NFYFC that managed to hold our annual rally which is undoubtedly the highlight of the young farmers’ calendar. It was so nice to see the members and to be competing face to face, and it was lovely to finish the day with our evening beer garden get together. Congratulations go to our Male Ambassador Lawrence, County Queen Delun and the Attendants Teleri, Bethan, Eleri and Terrie, I hope you have a fantastic year.
A huge thank you must go to our County chairperson Tania Hancock, our county Vice Chairman, Sam Kurtz MS and Owain Lewis our County Organiser for all their hard work in these most challenging times - they have led by example and have worked tirelessly throughout the year. I really do hope that we can get back to some sort of normality next year and the county can go from strength to strength.
Finally, I would like to thank the county for giving me the opportunity to be your County President - it has truly been an honour.
Dwi methu credu fy mod yn ysgrifennu yr adroddiad hwn a bod fy mlwyddyn fel Llywydd y Sir yn dod I ben, mae wedi bod yn flwyddyn heriol iawn i’r mudiad. Llongyfarchiadau i pob clwb am gynnal gwahanol gwaithgareddau ar ein ffrind newydd sef Zoom. Fe wnaethom recordio ein cwrdd diolchgarwch eleni a’i rhannu ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol. Pleser o’r mwyaf oedd cael arwyddo iaith byddar i’r gân ‘Thank You’. Hefyd roedd yn hyfryd I gael danfon neges Nadolig I bawb ar y cyfryngau cymdeithasol. Roedd yn braf I weld pob clwb yn cymryd rhan yn sialens y “welly” – doeddwn ddim yn gwbod fod sut gymaint o wahanol bethau y gallwn gwneud gyda wellington! Hoffem longyfarch Gwyndaf Lewis o CFFI Hermon ar ei her o redeg o gwmpas 12 clwb y sir mewn 3 diwrnod - 97 o filltiroedd ac yn codi dros £1,000 i’r Sir. Cafodd rhan fwyaf o’r cystadlaethau eu cynnal yn rhithiol, ond roeddwn wrth fy modd ein bod wedi cynnal ein rali blynyddol wyneb yn wyneb, heb os, dyma uchafbwynt Mudiad Y Ffermwyr Ifanc. Roedd yn hyfryd I weld pawb, ac roedd yn ddiweddglo gwych i ddathlu yn yr ardd gwrw. Llongyfarchiadau I Lawrence ein Llysgennad, Delun ein Brehines a’r Morwynion Teleri, Bethan, Eleri a Terrie – gobeitho y cewch chi blwyddyn wrth eich bodd.
Diolch enfawr I ein Cadeirydd Sir Tania Hancock, Is Gadeirydd Sam Kurtz AS ac Owain Lewis Trefnydd y Sir, mae nhw wedi arwain a gweitho yn galed iawn yn ystod y cyfnod heriol yma.
Rwyf yn wir gobeitho y cewn ni rhyw fath o normalrwydd cyn bo hir a bydd y Sir yn mynd o nerth I nerth
Yn olaf hoffem ddiolch i’r Sir am y cyfle I fod yn eich Llywydd - mae wedi bod yn fraint ac yn anrhydedd.

County Chairman’s report
ell, what a year!! After taking over as County Chairman at last year’s W AGM on Zoom, we all knew we were in for an unpredictable time. A huge thank you to Iwan George our past Chairman for all his hard work. I was delighted to be Chairman the same year as Mrs. Eirlys Davies was elected President along with my mum as President Elect and Sam Kurtz as ViceChairman.
It was inevitable that due to the pandemic the year was going to be different, but I was determined to ensure that didn’t mean we had to stop! I was delighted that Reverend Huw George helped create a Virtual Harvest Service for Pembrokeshire YFC, which slightly resembled an episode of ‘Location Location, Location’, nevertheless, we raised a few hundred pounds for Pembrokeshire YFC. Diolch Huw.
Whilst in and out of lockdowns, school closures and regulations constantly changing, we managed to hold a Winter Fair, for members only at the Showground. I’m sure you’ll all agree, it was a huge success and just so nice to get back to some sort of YFC ‘normality’. Well done Keyston YFC for winning overall.
In December we launched our social media advent calendar to promote a Pembrokeshire business each day. Thank you to all the local businesses for their sponsorship. We also converted some members winning Christmas cards designs into cards and sold multiple packs in the lead up to Christmas. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to have our annual Queens Ball however, in true Pembrokeshire YFC style, we weren’t going to miss out - so we organised one of many virtual

social events! Huge thanks to DJ Dan Morgan for entertaining us all! Again, desperately trying to seek fame we organised a Virtual County Christmas Service, which was aired on Facebook. It was lovely to have all clubs taking part.
Dechrau blwyddyn Newydd, a sialens newydd i fi. Rydw i wedi mwynhau dysgu cymraeg gyda aelodau arall Sir Benfro. Diolch i Jayne Evans am y sesiynau Clwb Cwtch.
Fundraising opportunities have been limited this year, but all 12 clubs came together to get involved with the NFYFC Give It Some Welly campaign, raising £1,528 for County. We also did a Spring Hamper raffle which proved very successful, thank you to all clubs and businesses that generously donated prizes.
I am so proud of the way Pembrokeshire YFC continued to offer opportunities to our members, especially when we were confined
to a virtual platform. We had great success with our English and Welsh Public Speaking competitions and the Eisteddfod. Well done to all members who went forward to compete at Wales and National Level, and a special mention to the Intermediate Brainstrust Team, Teleri, Eleri, Annie and Morgan for coming first at NFYFC.
It was a pleasure to expand our county team of officials with Carys Phillips from Llysyfran as Senior Member of the year and Rhodri Lewis Hermon YFC as Junior Member of the year. With the addition of Delun Evans, Eglwyswrw as Rally Queen, Lawrence Hancock, Keyston as Male Ambassador and their team of attendants, Terrie, Eleri, Bethan and Teleri. It’s been so great to work alongside you all.
Just when I thought Pembrokeshire YFC couldn’t get any better, we pulled it out of the bag and were one of the only Counties in Wales to hold a Face-to-face Rally Day, with the general public in attendance. What a day it was! Well done to Llysyfran for winning overall and congratulations to all members who came and took part. The buzz and excitement of Rally Day is definitely a highlight of my year! The day was rounded off nicely with a member only Rally ‘Beer Garden’ style dance.
Following the success of our Rally, I was delighted that Pembrokeshire YFC went on and came 2[nd] at the Wales YFC Virtual Royal Welsh Show, with lots of great individual results. Well done to everyone who represented our county. Da iawn pawb!
August saw the return of the Pembrokeshire County Show, which was a brilliant 2-day event. We had a stand there this year and numerous members helped the society with stewarding. It was a pleasure for Pembrokeshire YFC to support the Show and we thank them for their continued support to
us. It’s so important that as young farmers, we continue to work with our local shows and help out in the community whenever possible.
My year as County Chairman has been enjoyable and memorable and I can safely say, I am totally zoomed out!! I have loved every second of being your chairman and am truly honoured and grateful to have had this opportunity. Thank you so much to all members, leaders and supporters of the movement, you really do help to strengthen our organisation. I’d like to thank Owain for his dedication during what’s been an incredibly challenging time (not just because he had to put up with me)! To all county officials and staff, your friendship has meant so much to me, team work really does make the dream work!! Thank you.
I wish Pembrokeshire YFC and their new team of officials all the luck and success in the forthcoming years.

County organiser’s report
ELL, it’s hard to believe that another 12 months have passed us by, and W what a year it has been!
The last year or so have been very strange and challenging for us all and as an organisation, however, we rose to the challenge, adapted our activities, and made the best of the situation.
We successfully offered a programme of activities and competitions to our members as close to normal as possible utilising our new best friend Zoom. Some trial and error, and making full use of its features, we held two public speaking competitions, a virtual Eisteddfod with Crowning and Chairing Ceremony, Junior Member, Senior Member and Ambassador interviews all with a few hairy moments as we go Facebook live with results! Alongside competitions, there have been virtual social evenings, bingos, and County meetings.
The Finance side of the organisation has been more important than ever to monitor closely this year. Fundraising has been difficult and the grant funding and sponsorship that has been secured which will stand us in good stead. Also, the income streams we created through the Christmas Card, Welly Relay and Easter Hampers have been beneficial.
More recently, we successfully collected almost all 156 County Trophies back in! It was great to be able to present these trophies to the rightful recipients, and to also gain back some space in cupboards and the office!
We then go on to the Rally, and when every other County said it was impossible, we took on the challenge! And a challenge it was, but it was so worth it! So much to consider and a lot of careful planning with the restrictions and regulations changing regularly! But the day came, and it was fantastic to see members coming together to compete and engage, and have fun, and also, I was delighted that we were able to open to the public to showcase the hard work of the members and us as a movement. Some
Owain Lewis County organiser
changes that were forced upon us may be ones that we change for the future, so some positives may come from all of this! And the same goes for the evening, the Rally Beer Garden. A fantastic evening for our members to get together and enjoy!
I am also delighted with our membership levels. Earlier in the year, we had one of the highest member numbers in National, and now have 86% of the membership rate of last year. This is as a result of our proactive approach with activities and competitions and stands us in good stead for the future as we restart and resume normal activities again.
Thank you to all for their support in judging, hosting, and stewarding during these strange times. We are indebted to all our past members and supporters for being so willing to help us out this year.
Thank you to Sian for all her help and support, and despite being on furlough, we regularly catch up and check in on each other. We're looking forward to being in the office together!
Finally, a huge thank you to our team of County Officials, to Tania, Sam and Eirlys for all your help, friendship, and support, and to Caroline, Karen, Gaynor and the Queen, Male Ambassador and Attendants, and the junior member and senior member team. It has been a difficult and eventful year, but we make a great team and got through it together.
It is an honour to be your County Organiser, and I wish the movement the best of luck for another busy and successful year!
Diolch i bawb am bob cymorth, cefnogaeth a chyfeillgarwch!

Club reports BrawdyHayscastle YFC
We ended the club report last year by saying we sincerely hoped that it wouldn’t be too long before we had the opportunity to meet again in person and build on the progress we made in the earlier part of that year – little did we realise how long it would be!!!
Due to the coronavirus pandemic our meeting room at Hayscastle Community Centre remained closed so meetings and activities had to continue virtually, starting with our AGM to start the new club year in September. Jason Davies continued his role of chairman with Cerys Jones as his vice-chair. Adam George continued as secretary, Danielle Davies took over the finances as treasurer and Eileen Jamieson became our new club president. A virtual club programme was drawn up and we planned to meet regularly online and keep in touch via our Facebook members page keeping our fingers crossed that things would soon improve and face to face meetings be back on the agenda. We held different types of scavenger hunts, played scattergories, bingo, had quizzes and we also managed lots of cooking nights which always went down well. We made mug cakes, cookies, pancakes and cheesecake filled easter eggs – but to work off all of the sweet treats we also had a few virtual keep fit nights led by Rhys “Joe Wicks” Jones from Cardiff – the bonus of virtual meetings meant that all members could join in no matter where they were. October saw the county virtual harvest festival and then for Halloween we decided to hold a pumpkin carving competition open to anyone – asking people to send in
photos of their lanterns and then posting them on Facebook with the pumpkins with the most likes winning. We had two age groups and were really pleased to have many entries from all over the county – the victorious carvers being Griff Roberts and Danielle Davies. As well as the pumpkin competition we also had a virtual Halloween themed bake-off & quiz. Not quite the same as usual when we get to taste everyone’s fabulous creations but still good fun, Bake-off champion for 2020 was Adam with his graveyard cake & runners up were the Drapers with their spider cake.
Club chairman Jason represented BrawdyHayscastle at a scaled down Remembrance Day service and laid a wreath on behalf of the club. We also took part in some of the Winter Fair competitions which county managed to stage with Danni finishing second in the virtual cook off, Iwan creating the most amazing hot chocolate cupcakes and Jason and Adam entering the yule log and craft competitions. Preparations also got under way for the public speaking competitions but sadly due the worsening pandemic and looming second lockdown this had to be postponed. A sombre Christmas followed with none of the usual festivities and sadly no chance for the BrawdyHayscastle elves to help Santa at the Pointz Castle Christmas Fair. 2021 dawned with members continuing to help out the local community with shopping and errands when required and we all made a concerted effort to keep in touch with regular Zoom activities. We had some entries for the virtual Eisteddfod and Toby Draper, Becky Wadia and Callum Robertson competed in the virtual junior public speaking. We undertook our 10 miles of the NFYFC “Give It Some YFC Welly” by doing a litter pick wearing
wellies around our local areas – combining a bit of community work with the challenge and filling loads of bags of rubbish.
Finally at the end of April we were able to meet again in person - outside and observing Covid rules but it was so good to see everyone in person and not have to interact through a screen. Even though Hayscastle Community Centre remained closed a marquee was put in the garden area outside which meant we were able to meet regularly and use this facility to prepare for the rally.
It was so good to have rally competitions to prepare for and even as a scaled back version of the usual rally there was plenty to keep us busy and for us to be proud of. Quite a few of our members had never experienced a YFC rally day before but were really keen to have a go at competitions. Sadly we didn’t have any stockjudgers this year (something we are aiming to change next year) but we did enter the promotional video, cookery, flower arranging, blind folded obstacle race, the sign, the montage board and both junior and senior generation games. Generation game was obviously our strong point this year with Callum Robertson winning the junior and Adam George then winning the senior – so good to finish the day with some silverware and in 9[th] place overall. The knockout quiz team of Stuart Jamieson, Rhys Jones, Adam George,
Cerys Jones, Euwyn Draper and Callum Robertson reached the semifinal, losing to Keyston YFC who went onto win overall.
Over the summer we have had some sports nights at the community centre and a night of frisbee golf at Clerkenhill which was great fun. Iwan Roberts, Griff Roberts and Osian Harries took part in the kwik cricket on sports day meaning all of our members took part in at least one competition this year. As a club we are really pleased to not only have maintained all of our membership from pre covid but to also have gained some new members as well. We’re looking forward to the new YFC year where they can get to experience the full range of YFC activities.
BrawdyHayscastle YFC would like to say a huge thank you to our club leaders for their support throughout the year, and to our members for persevering with the virtual format and sticking with us until we could meet again. To parents for their support in getting members to where they needed to be and to everyone who helped with training. We would also like to thank county chair Tania Hancock and her team of officials for their commitment to putting on face to face competitions for us all in a covid safe way.
Thank you all once again. Diolch yn fawr iawn.
Clunderwen YFC
What a very different year Clunderwen YFC have had! Even after an unprecedented year with lockdowns and zoom calls, we have managed to have a wonderful and successful year!
For this first time in club history, we started the year virtually with the AGM. Bringing in a new group of officials to take the reins with Scott Robinson taking over from Liz King as chairman, Will Davies as Vice-chair, Charli Jones maintaining Treasurer, Mari Roberts became Secretary, and Siwan Jones becoming Minute Secretary. We also had the award ceremony that usually takes place in Club dinner where Liz King became the senior member of the year. Rosie Hughes took the prize for Junior member and the chairman’s award went to Siwan Jones. There was a new award this year (the club leaders award), which went to Jono Roberts. We started the year with our Club nights on zoom, where we had a Zumba lesson with Jess Robinson, a few intense nights of bingo and quizzes and a special shout out to all the member's pets that we met in the club pet night.
In November we had the first competition of the year, the Winter Fair. Members were allowed to meet in real life for the first time, and compete in beef stock judging, Isaac and Scott competed in the Junior and senior Butchers beef. The juniors got creative with their crafts and cooking; Ella made a beautiful Christmas wreath. And Rosie and Georgina’s yule log and cupcakes look delicious. Scott and Will also competed in a virtual lamb carcass stock judging.
We were all very excited for our first club night back in the hall, where we welcomed Aled Davies who gave us a fascinating talk on his career in the police force. With the cold winter nights pulling in, Dan Roblin and Will Boulton made us all very excited for a holiday after their presentation on their YFC Travel trips to Patagonia and Interrailing.
In the new year, we joined Keyston for a Joe Wix fitness class to lose those extra Christmas pounds. We were also invited to a Llawhaden club night where Scott gave a very informative presentation on his milk vending enterprise.
Eisteddfod was the second competition of the year. Sion Jenkins came 2[nd] in Chair, Charli Jones had a 2[nd] with her story about masks. Scott and I also had a 2[nd] in story and mime. And Ellie Robinson secured a second in the singing. We won the overall light entertainment section and came 4[th] overall. A shoutout to Scott for making it to the Wales Eisteddfod and coming 2[nd] with his stand-up routine.
Clunderwen members took part in the Virtual welly relay, where we walk 10 kilometres, and all did the ice water welly challenge, supporting county YFC to raise over £1000 for charity. In March we got our brains working again when we faced Keyston in the it’s a knockout quiz.
We took advantage of the May weather when we are allowed to meet up again outside and Scott demonstrated his amazing sporting abilities in rounders and the Clunderwen national frisbee team taught us all how to play ultimate frisbee like a professional.
Our senior public speaking team got debating this year, well done to Charli and Siwan who joined the debating team for the first time this year and congratulations on the team in coming 4[th] overall. Scott was also chosen for the Pembrokeshire County team to compete in Wales and national where they came 2nd.
With Pembrokeshire being one of the only counties to hold a rally, Clunderwen members got into the swing of Pre rally competitions, kicking off with Llinos Ford coming 2[nd] in the highland cattle. Will Davies came 1[st] in the sheep. Siwan Jones also competed in equine stock judging for the first time and came 6[th] and our dairy stock judgers Isaac Davies, Sioned Thomas and Scott came first overall!
The Tug of war took place a few nights before rally day and the men and women’s teams made everyone very proud by overall coming joint first with Hermon.
Before we knew it, it was Rally day and we were all looking forward to a day filled with competitions. The day started with flowers, a special shout out to Georgina Luke for competing for the first time in the junior section
and coming 1[st] ! And the flower team for placing first overall. Betsan got busy with beetroot in the Royal Welsh cookery, and Charli, Siwan and Rosie cooked up a delicious three-course meal. Joe and Tom came first in the upcycled pallet competition, but I think Freddy and Molly took most of the sand home with them! Ella made a beautiful model of a plane for her craft competition and came 4[th] which helped us with winning the overall craft cup. The Club promotional video created by myself with the help from club members won first in the rally and also went on to the Royal Welsh to also place first! Well done to Rosie for winning a cup for the best dance instructor. Overall, Clunderwen came joint second in the rally with Keyston, the senior members celebrated a lot in the rally beer garden that night.
To round the year off we all headed up to Builth for the Welsh YFC competition day to support the boys in the tug of war, Chris, Dan and Sam with the fencing and Will, who was stock judging with the Pembrokeshire team.

Fellow member Gwen and I were honoured to be chosen for the Wales YFC International Travel Trip to South Africa. Unfortunately, due to covid restrictions the trip has been cancelled, but we look forward to try for another trip soon. Our first virtual meet of 2021 was our bingo night – no actual prizes this year unfortunately, but great fun none the less. Thank you Iwan for being bingo caller. Next on the programme was a Virtual Pet night. We saw a few puppies, cats, a chicken and even a very talented show jumping lamb. We also witnessed a live lambing which was a bit unexpected! Thank you to our club president Richard for stepping in last minute as judge – he had a tough job.

We can all agree that the young farmers year always flies, and this year there has been no exception – even though half the year has been spent behind a screen on zoom.
A bit later than usual, we started the YFC calendar with a scavenger hunt games night over zoom, hosted by our President Richard George and his glamorous assistant Nia. It was a great opening night with many present and new members in attendance – watching them run around their houses searching for items such as eggs and umbrellas was quite entertaining! The highlight of my year as Chairman was in November – when we organised a very successful covid safe Fireworks night. The event was held on our family farm, and spectators were able to watch the fireworks safely from their cars on the farmyard. When we planned the evening, we did think the yard would be big enough and I quote “bydd digon o le na, na fydd e?” I don’t think any of us expected such a great turn out with 58 cars in attendance, queueing up and down the farm lane, with around 15 cars parked on the verges on the main road. £580 was raised for club and a big thank you to Iwan, Sion and Harri for lighting and setting off the fireworks, and to the club officials for stewarding and parking the cars.
Next up was pancake night with Vice Secretary Gwen in charge. The member’s own pancakes were delicious, although unfortunately Gwen’s own pancakes were a bit of a flop.
In February some members supported County’s virtual Oddball’s event with a talk from the Charity’s ambassador. It was an interesting evening learning about the Charity’s work, and great to see over 40 of County’s members supporting the event. The County Eisteddfod was held a little bit later than usual this year. Congratulations to Ffion and Esyllt Thomas who won their singing competitions, and to Llyr Hazzelby on coming 2[nd] in the Limerick competition. In March members also supported county in the “NFYFC Welly Relay” where all money raised would go towards County. As a club we decided that members would skip around the area in our wellies. Over £1300 was raised and thank you to all members that took part.
On Saturday the 14[th] of November it was time for the first face to face county competition in over 8 months – The Winter Fair. A slightly different Winter Fair to what we’re used to, but a successful day nonetheless with club coming 3[rd] overall. It was great to see so many of the members getting stuck in to practices and competitions after a few months off. Thank you to all members that took part. December was a bit quieter usual, with no Queens Balls, our annual Whist drives and Christmas Fayre or Carol Singing to attend. We enjoyed a virtual Yule Log decorating evening with past chairman Teleri in charge. Thank you Teleri! Club also supported County’s Advent Calendar. A big thank you also to the Maes y Deri family and Wyn Harries from Harries Planning Design & Management for sponsoring us in the County Advent Calendar.
Next on the YFC programme was an evening with Tir Dewi spokesperson Wyn Thomas. It was an interesting evening where members got to learn about the work that the Charity does to support rural community and raise awareness of Mental Health. Thank you to all members, leaders and friends of club that joined us. The Welsh public speaking competition was held virtually on the 15[th] of March. It was a very successful day of competing with club coming 2[nd] overall. Congratulations to the junior and senior team for winning their competitions, and to the members that were chosen to represent county at the Wales Public Speaking Day. A big thank you to all that helped train the teams. A
special mention goes to Ffion Evans, who came 2[nd] as Chairman in her first ever public speaking competition – a great achievement! A couple of weeks later members competed in the Virtual English Public Speaking Day – a huge congratulations to the Junior team who won their competition – a double whammy for Fflur, Gruff and Caryl. Thank you to all members who competed, and club came 5[th] at the end of the day.
My favourite competition as a member must be the knockout quiz competition in which I have competed in every year since being a member. The Quiz team beat Tiers Cross and Martletwy to reach the Semi Finals, but were unfortunately beaten by Llysyfran at the Semi Finals – the toughest quiz I have ever taken part in may I add! Congratulations to Llysyfran. The next guest speakers were Harri Millin and Owain John from Wynnstay. Thank you to both for speaking with us and teaching us about the company. They also had a quiz and donated Wynnstay merchandise to the winner.
After countless zoom meetings, May saw the covid restrictions eased, and we were finally able to meet up face to face. A games night organised by leaders Nia, Aled and Iwan was held at Castell Henllys. It was a very fun evening and great to see a good turn out with new and present members in attendace! Thank you to Castell Henllys for letting us use their tipi to keep members dry. During volunteering week in June, members grabbed their paint brushes and helped to paint fences and sheds at Eglwyswrw Primary School. It was great to help the school out and give back to the community. Thank you to all members, leaders and parents that came along to support.
At the beginning of June, we visited Gentle Giants Shire Horses. A special thank you to John and Stacy who showed us round and introduced us to the horses. Some members also got the chance to lead the horse around the arena – great to do something different! The 20[th] of June saw the return of our Treasure Hunt – another great turn out with 26 cars in attendance and £260 raised for club. Thank you to club leaders Nia and
Aled for choosing the route and creating the clues. Congratulations to the winners. After weeks of preparation, the rally competition was held on the 2[nd] of July. First, a massive congratulations to Delun as Rally Queen, and Teleri as Rally Attendant. You both looked stunning in your dresses, and we were all so proud to see such worthy and dedicated members being elected to the roles. A massive thank you to all members that competed and took part in Pre-Rally and Rally competitions – Club came 7[th] at the end of the day. A special congratulations to Fflur James who won the flower arranging competition and was awarded the best exhibit. Thank you also to all the trainers and everyone that helped prepare for the competitions – also to Maes y Deri family for letting us use their shed to create the sign. A few of the senior members celebrated the day’s success at the “Rally Beer Garden” – an enjoyable and fun evening of socialising with fellow YFC members from the county. Thank you to Tania and the team for working so hard to organise the day, it was great to be back at the county show ground in the company of fellow Pembrokeshire YFC members. Hoffwn ddiolch i bawb sydd wedi bod yn gymorth ac wedi cefnogi fi yn ystod y flwyddyn, y swyddogion - Ifan, Gwen, Ffion, Sioned, Ffion, Llŷr ac Alun, yr arweinyddion, ac ein llywydd . Mai diolch arbennig yn mynd i Ffion a Sioned. Mai wedi bod yn her i feddwl am
weithgareddau rhithiol, ond maent wedi gweithio’n galed i sicrhau bod rhaglen y clwb wedi ei lenwi bron bob wythnos.
Diolch hefyd i Tania, Owain a’r tîm. Trwy ei arweiniad a’i ymroddiad mai’r clwb wedi goroesi flwyddyn heriol ac anodd.
Yn olaf, hoffwn ddiolch yn fawr i’n haelodau. Fel arfer mae blwyddyn y CFfI wedi ei ganolbwyntio ar gystadlu a chodi arian i wahanol elusennau. Yr elfen bwysicaf eleni oedd sicrhau bod gennym aelodau o hyd. Rwy’n falch iawn o’r ffaith ein bod wedi llwyddo i ddenu dros 40 aelod yn ystod blwyddyn mor anodd a heriol, ac mae gennym yr 3ydd aelodaeth uchaf yn y sir.
Diolch i chi gyd, a pob lwc i’r swyddogion am y flwyddyn sydd i ddod. Cewch amdani, go for it!

The 2020-2021 YFC year continued to be a very different year to usual with zoom still taking a very active part in yfc activities. However, we were very grateful and glad to see yfc activities re-starting face to face and enjoyed some yfc normality once again. We began the year with a presentation evening on zoom to present the 7 charities with the money raised from our 7/70 challenge. We enjoyed a very informative evening, hearing about the excellent work all 7 charities do in our communities.
We then moved on to the first face to face competition in a very long time. The mini county winter fair was held at the Pembrokeshire County Showground, and we had some excellent results during the day. Teleri Wilson won the intermediates Christmas card competition, Cerys Davies came third in the virtual cook off, Nathan Rogers came third in the senior beef carcass judging with Teleri also coming second in the decorate a yule log competition.
Soon after, we were back in lockdown and zoom took over once again. We enjoyed many club activity nights on zoom with activities ranging from scavenger hunts, bingos and quizzes and was great to still enjoy fun yfc activities despite this happening over a screen.
The County Eisteddfod took place on the 27[th] of February and despite it all happening virtually, members adapted and took to the challenge of competing virtually. We managed to finish in third place with some excellent individual results during the day. Iolo Evans came second in the U19 Solo with Cerys Davies winning the U19 recitation. Teleri Wilson came second in the instrumental solo and Mary Raymond and Cerys Davies came second in the story & mime competition. Many members sent in videos to put together a mime to music video and we were delighted to receive second place for this. A highlight of the day was Cerys Davies winning the Eisteddfod crown. We were all delighted and very proud of Cerys for winning this competition at such a young age.
Another highlight of the year was Morgan Evans becoming runner up in the Pembrokeshire yfc junior member of the year competition. Morgan has worked very hard during the year and always supports yfc activities and we were very proud as a club of Morgan for his achievement.
The Welsh Public speaking was soon upon us and once again, this competition was held on zoom. Our junior reading team won their competition with Aled Lloyd winning best chair and Cerys Davies won the best speaker in the junior speaking competition. A big congratulations must also go to Tomos Evans for winning the best chairman in the senior section. Soon after this the English public speaking happened on zoom. Some top individual results from this day were Yori Evans winning the best vote of thanks in the junior speaking competition and Teleri Wilson winning best chairman in the brainstrust competition.
By May, we were finally glad to be able to meet outdoors in a safe way once again. We enjoyed an evening of games at Newgale beach and enjoying socialising and catching up with each other once again. We also enjoyed trips to Llwyngwair Manor to play crazy golf and had a sports night at Letterston football pitch.
The annual county rally happened in July and once again Fishguard members jumped at the chance of competing face to face. Both the Ladies and Juniors tug of war teams came third in the tug of war competitions, and we managed to finish second place overall in the prerally competitions. We came fourth overall in all rally competitions and our cookery team served up a treat and won the NFYFC cookery competition. The club promotional video came third overall and Nia
Lloyd came second in the singing competition.
Following on from the success at the county and Wales public speaking finals, Teleri Wilson and Morgan Evans represented Pembrokeshire YFC in the NFYFC Brainstrust final on zoom. The Pembrokeshire team had great success during the day by winning the overall best team and a big congratulations to Teleri for winning the best intermediates chairman during the day too.
We certainly hope that this year will be the last of all zoom activities and competitions and we look forward to enjoying yfc in it’s usual form. We look forward to a new year of competing and socialising with members all over the county.

Keyston YFC
We started our new year with our new officials meeting up outside our centre to discuss what we we’re wanting to achieve and do throughout the year with covid right behind us every step of the way which didn’t make it an easy ride! As we started to ease on lockdown restrictions, we were able to meet inside our centre exciting right? We started off with some quizzes indoors and more activities inside which we were able to achieve.
As Christmas drew near so did, meeting up face-to-face and putting on our Winter Fayre. A huge well done to all members who took part, coming 1st overall was an amazing achievement to start off the year with our first competition a great day which we will never forget, special mention to Huw Morgan for winning the junior beef stock judging.
whilst we started to get into the Christmas spirit, we decided we were not going to do our normal carol singing night, so we thought let's put on a Santa sleigh ride drive by going through the local villages and spreading Christmas joy and raising a whopping amount off £280 which went to us as a club great effort from everyone and our very own dan Morgan as the Santa.
The pandemic then became the focus on everyone lives putting a stop to seeing people face to face and meeting up, but
it didn’t stop Keyston from getting our club nights in, we then went into the virtual world of zoom which we did fitness nights, met with other clubs for a catch up, we had guest speakers come in and it was fab to try something new.
Keyston love a challenge as we all know and love to do something completely out of the box and random, County YFC had been given the welly by national YFC to raise money for Pembrokeshire YFC but obviously we had to do it with a twist, so we had to carry a welly filled with milk/water with a combined distance of 10 miles between club. Whilst doing this, we need to walk in such a way where our trail map spells out “YFC” like the photo below. We all managed to get involved and some even did the full YFC lettering thanks to the Lewis family for that! It was a fab way of getting us all mucked in together and getting outside.
Public speaking time and as we all know Keyston lot are a chatty bunch but this year we were extremely chatty must have been the months in isolation that did it, well done to everyone who competed and coming overall 2[nd,] which is a fab achievement, a special mention to Lawrence on winning best speaker for the senior public speaking also to Yasmin on winning best supporting speaker and to the whole senior team on winning well done everyone. Also, well done and good luck to the those who have been chosen
individually for the Wales public speaking.
We then had the first round of the quiz which was via zoom against Clunderwen which we won well done to all who competed and went on then to win in the final against LLysyrfran well done you brainy bunch!
As rally was approaching near, we had the attendant, male ambassador and queen interviews for this year's rally officials, a massive congratulations to Eleri and Terrie on becoming this year's attendants and Lawrence Hancock for becoming 2021’s male ambassador it's an absolute honour to have been chosen and we cannot wait for what the year ahead brings us.
After a long and hard 4 months we were able to meet face to face again so what did Keyston do as soon as mark Drakeford said we could meet outdoors we were organising and planning for the next couple of Tuesday's outdoors, thankfully with the massive grounds we have here we were able to put club nights on outside if we were together having fun then that’s all that mattered to us.
The quiz happened again but this time indoors against Hermon and we won with a close quiz of 81.5 to 77 points thank you Hermon for joining us it was great to see another club again!
Meanwhile whilst rally didn’t happen in May we were sure to make it happen this year without fail. The team of county officials worked tirelessly to put on a normalish rally day for us and the queen, male ambassador and attendants could have the rally day they deserve and get dressed up! Thank you to everyone who made it happen and compete on the day as an attendant I'd like to emphasise my sincere gratitude to the members and
official team for letting it happen and make it a rally day I will never forget a massive thank you to you all. Just when you think it couldn’t get any better, we came a respectable joint 2[nd] overall with Clunderwen which would never have happened without the help of you all.
After rally day our chatty lot were at it again at the national public speaking day with Eleri and Annie not only took part in the national brains trust but won it overall well done you pair and a special mention to Tan for coaching the team and for leading them to victory. Lawrence also came a fantastic 3[rd] in the national debating competition.
Keyston and Clunderwen coming 2[nd] in the rally really was a great achievement as the weather was still brilliant, we thought let's put on a club night with them lot coming down to us to celebrate with a pork roll and a few cans and to celebrate the members for competing and leading us to that fab result, thank you to everyone who came along and helped cook and bring snacks for the evening.
With all these amazing results I cannot thank and congratulate you all enough on this year's achievements we’ve had a rocky and dumpy year but without the spirit of YFC we wouldn’t have kept the members here this year and for my team of officials who have steered us all the way and thought of different things for us lot to do in the pandemic to keep YFC moving and keep it alive and fun. We’d also like to thank the county office and officials for their continued support over the past 12 months.
Thank you
Llawhaden YFC
September is the start of a new YFC year, and our AGM saw Emily Jones elected as Chairman, Nia Lewis as Vice Chairman, Celyn Lewis as Secretary, Nia Lewis as Treasurer and Zoe Mansell as Minute Secretary, with Karen Jones continuing her role of Club President. This is a team that has kept Llawhaden YFC going strong over the last year! Hopefully we will be able to have some club evenings as we knew it pre covid in the near future.
The new year got off to an excellent start by winning the E R Phillips Award for our Community and Charity work, and a big congratulations goes to Simon Snape for winning the Wayne Mathias Award at the County AGM.
In October, we were able to meet up again, and went for a visit to Clerkenhill for a game of frisbee and crazy golf. It was lovely to see each other face to face once again.
Although most club nights were held virtually on Zoom, the year started to fly by, and it was time for the Winter Fair. The County held a face-to-face Winter Fair the first competition since the start of the pandemic. Nia Lewis won the Senior Table Centrepiece and Zoe Mansell also won the Junior Table Centrepiece. Emily Jones also won the Senior Beef Stockjudging, congratulations to all!
It was lovely to see our members keen and getting involved with the competitions, and we came 5[th] place overall.
Then we were in full swing with public speaking practice for the original competition planned for December but unfortunately it was postponed until March. Although the competition was held virtually in the end, we had a very good day with Mared Phillips winning best Chairman in the Reading section, and Ellie Dew winning best speaker in the brainstrust section. We came an amazing 3[rd] place, considering we were not able to field a senior team. We are very proud of our junior members and their commitment.
Our Vice Chairman and Treasurer, Nia, gave us some exciting news and got engaged to her fiancée James Morris. We can’t wait to celebrate in style when we can!
We welcomed in the new year with various virtual evening as covid once again restricted us to the virtual life. We had a pets evening, and welcomed along some animals that wouldn’t be able to come along on a normal night at the hall! We joined up with other clubs, having quiz with Llysyfran and also a talk from Scott Robinson and Clunderwen YFC about his new venture The Milk Churn.
Then came along the County Virtual Eisteddfod with many members getting involved and taking part.
Emily Jones and Seren Phillips went on to compete in Senior and Junior member and Ellie Dew competing for the Situation vacant. YFC really has kept us busy during a strange and uncertain time!
This year, Pembrokeshire YFC held the Welly Relay, getting all clubs to get involved with the welly challenges. As part of the fundraiser, we chose to walk 10 miles collectively, with our pets in our wellies. There were some really nice pictures, and many members got involved and counted the miles.
Onto the next virtual competition and this time, we needed to get our brains working. It was the knockout quiz time and we played against Templeton YFC and won that round, but unfortunately lost against BrawdyHayscastle in the next round.
And just like that, Emily Jones and Simon Snape become parents to the beautiful Phoebe who is already enjoying being the youngest recruit for us! Congratulations to you both!
Restrictions started to ease, and in May, we finally got to have club nights outdoors and the weather stayed nice for us to meet up! We had games night down in Gelli, headed to Clerkenhill to have a farm tour with the fab Sisters in Wellies to see their new farm setup.
Then soon, we found ourselves in full swing of Rally preparations, which was held in person! Stockjudging, Craft, Flower Arranging, Dancing and Cookery. It was good to have the rally buzz once again. We Came 6[th] place overall with the juniors winning the Junior Shield, Cerys Harts winning the Junior Dairy Stockjudging and coming 2[nd] in the section D Ponies, and Kizzie Lucas winning the Senior Section D ponies. The juniors had a lot of fun practicing and competing in the Junior Tug of war.
Llawhaden YFC has a bright future with our fantastic gang ofjuniors.
To brighten up a bit of an uncertain year, Jack and Ffion Jones, and Steve and Daisy Griffiths got married. Congratulation to both happy couples!
To finish what has been a jam-packed year, despite being in the middle of a pandemic, we held our annual treasure hunt ending up in the Bush Inn. A fun night was had by all, and it was great to see people again!
Congratulation to the youth forum team for holding such a great event for the juniors, a festival themed party. A great time was had by all, the seniors stewarding as much as the juniors!
Congratulations must go to Cerys Harts who came 3[rd] in the NFYFC Stockjudging and to Mared Phillips who came 2[nd] in the NFYFC Talent competition. I think I can safely say Llawhaden YFC will be in great hands in years to come.
Finally, we would just like to say a big thank you to all our helpers throughout the year, who take time out of their busy schedule to help us from Rally and Winter Fair, Flowers to Tug of War, Cookery and Stockjudging, we could not have done it without you.
We all work so well as a team, members, officials, leaders, helpers and parents and we hope to continue doing so next year. We would also like to extend our thanks to Pembrokeshire YFC for their help and support over the last year!
Llysyfran YFC
Well, what a year it has been for Llys-y-Fran YFC - another hectic one!
The year started with our AGM where it was agreed that our officials for 2019-2020 would stand again due to the pandemic,– Chairman Carys Phillips, Vice Chairman Rhys Bevan, Secretary Bethan Jenkins, Assistant Secretary Leia Burge and Treasurer Steven James. Again this year most meetings were held over Zoom due to the restrictions. Our Senior Member, Junior Member and Most Promising Member were awarded to Ffion Edwards, Nia Lewis and Ellen Philipps-Harries jointly and Steffan Thomas. The Attendance Cup was awarded to Sara Edwards
For our first club night after the AGM we arranged an Outdoor Cinema night. We also decided to arrange a Tractor run, as the restrictions had eased in September. The proceeds of this day was split between Llysyfran YFC and The DPJ Foundation. Around 60 tractors turned up, ready to go on a 15 mile journey and we raised around £1,200. Our weekly club nights continued over zoom. In September one of our club leaders Katie Davies was re-elected as Wales Chairman for the second year.
There was a very different Winter Fair this year, with only competing members allowed to turn up, and having to compete wearing masks. This year’s style was different with a Drop and Go system, but our members were willing to take part and at the end of the day we managed to gain an overall 2[nd] , with a few individual successes in the Stock Judging, Table Centrepiece, and ATV Handling. In November, another lockdown was imposed, so we were back to meeting virtually, and we had to get creative and think of new ideas. A “Go Get It” evening, Quiz, Cupcake decorating are just some of the club nights we arranged online. Pembrokeshire YFC also held a virtual International Evening, where some of our members took part. The county also arranged a virtual Harvest Festival, and members of the club took part by recording themselves. A massive congratulations has to go to Hannah Rees who got selected for one the Wales YFC Agri ‘I’travel programmes. Christmas got closer, we went into lockdown, and with no Queens Ball, Public speaking cancelled and
no sign of any Christmas Fayres we decided as a club to get crafty and make Christmas Hampers for the community. Everything was either bought from a local business or handmade. Over 30 hampers were, sold - we managed to keep ourselves busy in lockdown. Pembrokeshire YFC decided to organise a Jingle Bingo, where our older members could go on Zoom, and play bingo and have a few drinks. Not our usual Christmas festivities, but with the year that we were having, it went down well! For our Junior Members, the Youth Forum arranged a “Mug Cake” evening, where many of our junior members went along. We, at Llysyfran always arrange an evening of Carol Singing around the community, and also a Christmas Service at Gwastad Chapel, but due to covid it was all arranged on Social Media.
Into the New year we went, and still in lockdown, our club nights continued to be online. We arranged a variety of things, - Lambing Live, Pancake night, Guess who!, Butchery demonstrations and we even managed to take part in one of the NFYFC Curve modules.
The county Eisteddod had to be online, and many of our members had a go. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we managed to take 1[st] place overall in the Eisteddfod, and also winning the Stage Competitions and the Homework section. Also a big congratulations to Carys Phillips for winning the individual Homework award. Carys Phillips and Branwen Vaughan went on to compete in the Senior and Junior Member of the Year competition at County Level, and Carys Phillips was selected as the Senior Member of the Year and came 2[nd] at Wales level.
Pembrokeshire YFC took part in the NFYFC Welly Challenge, where we all had to do an activity with a welly. We decided to travel 10 miles while pushing wheelbarrows and wearing wellies. Nearly all of our members took part, and actually we managed to complete 40 miles.
It was then the Welsh and English Public Speaking competition, which again had to be put online due to the pandemic. But that didn’t stop us, as we managed to win overall in both competitions, with numerous individual successes. In the Welsh section, Aneirin Vaughan won the best reader in the junior section and Leia Burge won the best chairman in the intermediates with the team winning this section. In the English
competition, Aneirin Vaughan again won the best speaker in the junior reading and Sara Edwards won best chairman and Branwen Vaughan best speaker in the junior speaking. In March our club secretary, Bethan Jenkins, was selected one of the Queen’s attendants – a great honour for her and the club. Club nights continued to be online, and we managed to have a “Night at Folly Farm”, a forensics night with one of our members Ffion Kestin. As the weeks went on, and restrictions changed, we managed to start having some club nights in person. Our first club night back at our club room, we lit a fire pit with some marshmallows. We then went on to have a Farm walk at Fagwrfran to see the robotic milking, and a visit to “Llaeth Preseli Milk” a new venture started by one of our past members.
Our Quiz team, had been busy in the middle of our club nights, having competed successfully against South Pembs and Eglwyswrw, and then Keyston in the final, where Keyston were successful. Rally was back, a little bit different than usual, but it was arranged on a much smaller scale. We managed to get a number of members back to compete in their favourite competitions. There were stock judging competitions, cookery, dancing, pallet recycling and flower arranging. Thanks to everyone’s hard work, we won the Overall Rally Shield!
Treasure hunt is something that is familiar to Llysyfran YFC, but due to the pandemic two years has passed since we last organised one. Our Club Secretary and her parents decided to set it and 26 cars turned up, and a great night was had by all.
Some of our Junior members attended the Youth Forum Field Festival, arranged by the Pembrokeshire YFC Youth Forum.
We have also managed to arrange our Annual Family Fun Day, and this year, a Gin Tasting Evening. Although the weather wasn’t on our side, we had many families from the community attend. We held sports competitions, tractor and trailer rides, feeding the animals and even some arts and crafts. Our Gin Tasting evening welcomed over 70 people, who all managed to taste 6 different gins a great time was had by all! As our club year came to an end, our final club evening was a visit to a past member and club leader’s new venture in their Maize Maze, and many members came along. Amongst all the activities, competitions, fun night we have had we have also been undertaking major building works at our YFC Hall which has transformed our building. It is nearly finished and we look at being able to share this with past members and the local community in the near future. Many of our members represented Pembrokeshire in a number of competitions at Wales and National levels. We are proud to see a past member Angharad Edwards as this year’s Pembrokeshire Agricultural Society Lady Ambassador and our current chairman Carys being elected as Ambassador Elect of the Society
If this pandemic has taught us anything, it is to support each other wherever possible. Team work definitely makes the dream work and when we work as a team, we can achieve anything. Thanks to everyone who has supported the club over the last 12 months. Diolch yn fawr i bawb sydd wedi cefnogi y clwb dros y flwyddyn diwethaf.
Martletwy YFC
This unusual year has seen many changes to the normal YFC calendar. We started off the year as Luke Watts being elected as chairman, Tegan Davis being elected vice chairman, Rebecca Smith being elected secretary and James Morgan being elected treasurer. We held a treasure hunt in early September and this was a great success. Due to another lockdown at the end of 2020, we had many meetings over ZOOM Instead of face to face. We made the most of this technology, from carving pumpkins, to making mug cakes and had a joint night with Fishguard YFC making delicious pancakes. We also took part in the Winter Fair competition; it was great to get back to competing again and we came 7[th] overall. Well done to James & Will Morgan for coming 1[st] in their Xmas decorations, Gabs Davies for coming 3[rd] with her decorated cupcakes,
Carys Ratciffe for coming 7[th] with her decorated yule log & Rebecca Smith for coming 5[th] with a decorated yule log & also Luke Watts for coming 1[st] in the hedge laying!
After Christmas we took part in the NFYFC Give it some Welly challenge, we decided to do Zumba virtually and covered over 15 miles between us. In March we took part in the Virtual English Junior & Intermediate Public Speaking competition – thank you to Jan Mathias for training the teams. Finally, covid restrictions eased and we finally met up face to face in May by having a game of rounders and some food at the Snooty Fox. We cheered on Gwyndaf (from Hermon YFC) as he cycled/ran across the 12 Pembrokeshire YFC clubs and was raising money for Pembs YFC & Glangwili ICU.
We hosted and took part in the Quiz competition, unfortunately we lost against Eglwyswrw – some tough
questions by Quizmaster and County Chairman Tania Hancock with even a round on guess the items & its use from Camrose Country Hardware!
Moving on to June we held a Car Wash at our YFC hall, we raised £243 altogether from the car wash and refreshments. A few of us also took part in the Rally which was held in July, it was great to meet up again with everyone and even with covid safety measures all in place it was a brilliant day and very well organised.
A few of the junior members attended the Junior Field Festival arranged by the Youth Forum – it looks like a fun night was had! It was a great opportunity for the junior members to get together and socialise with others from different clubs. Luke Watts our chairman was also named a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category of the NFYFC Achiever Awards with Moithan Meadow. Luke & his partner Beth have created a new business venture with their own environmentally friendly glamping campsite in Martletwy.
Pembs YFC Sports day. We came 1[st] in the Junior Kwik-Cricket and are through to the Wales YFC Sports day in Aberysytwyth in a few weeks!
We would like to say a big thank you to all of our helpers, leaders, parents and officials for their help throughout the year and for supporting the club. We would also like to extend our thanks to the county office team for always being there and answering any questions we may have. We hope to possibly hold a club dinner this year at some point and hold a New members evening with recent covid restrictions easing once more.
A particular highlight for the year was the Tug of war - We came 2[nd] in the Junior Tug of war competition, and as Keyston were unable to make it to Builth wells we were very grateful to be given the opportunity to represent Pembrokeshire in the Wales Agri Day on Sunday 15[th] August, again we came 2[nd] and Pembrokeshire came 2[nd] which is a brilliant achievement. Many thanks to all our trainers! We competed in the final competition of the YFC year on 22[nd] August – the
South Pembs YFC
After South Pembs' first-ever online AGM in 2020 and coming eventually into full lockdown restrictions again, all our club nights resorted to zooms. Members joined zoom catch-ups and chats, and also did activities such as pumpkin carving over Halloween. Some of our members entered the County Winter Fair such as the cupcake competition. 2021 soon came around and saw our members participating in several zoom nights such as making mug cakes and online bingo, as well as lambing live and a talk from Farmer Kim behind the scenes of Folly Farm, who also showed us a video of many different animals, which was also attended by Keyston YFC. Members competed in the County Eisteddfod and trained for two public speaking competitions, the junior reading and speaking, which had some great results. 6 of South Pembs' members competed in the knockout quiz, going to round two but narrowly missing out on a few points to Llys y fran. We took part in the YFC welly relay challenge to raise money for Pembs YFC, by brothers and sisters doing a three-legged walk for one mile in their wellies. Three of our members competed in the beef, dairy and sheep stockjudging for the PreRally, with one member attaining first place in the dairy stockjudging, winning an impressive trophy and then going on to representing County in the National competition. Our club members, officals and family members enjoyed a walking treasure hunt around the town of Pembroke which was great to meet in person once again and have some freindly competition. A mix of 7 boys and girls from South Pembs trained regulary and competed in the tug of war competition before Rally which hadn't been entered by South Pembs for a
while. Luckily this year the County YFC Rally went ahead, with South Pembs YFC entering seveal competitions there on the day, some such as the blind costume obstacle course, floral art, generation game and the cooking competition. We were also surprised to be presented with the trophy for gaining the most points per member at the County Rally Day, which we were all very proud of. Recently South Pembs were very lucky to be invited to the Pembroke Farmers Club Show Day Social Event and have the chance to do some fundraising and to talk to everyone, hosting games such as welly throwing and guessing how many ballons are in the back of the truck. We also discussed and explained to many people who and what our club is, and how YFC works as a whole. We were all very excited for our beach night in which members attended to discuss the coming year, as well as playing some sports together such as cricket and having fun. Whilst it has been another different year compared to others, it has been equally as great with everyone coming together to support the local community, as well as staying social and safe over videocall, or at events and competitions.
Templeton YFC
Although this year has been a very different year for everyone, Templeton YFC have still had a successful and fun filled year. These are some of the highlights from our busy YFC year:
We have competed in lots of different competitions. Our competition year started with competing in the county Eisteddfod. Members acted in a sketch and had lots of fun on the stage making the audience laugh. We then had success in the county winter fair with club chairman Jack placing second in the under 21 lamb stock judging, Ellis placing 2[nd] in under 16 Carcass stock judging and Hannah placing 3[rd] in under 26 beef stock judging. At the county winter fair, Hannah also won the design an advent calendar competition. Hannah was able to take her advent calendar to compete in the Royal Welsh winter fair where she placed second. Hannah also was accepted to attend the Rural Youth Europe Autumn Seminar with the Wales YFC travel program. Another highlight of the competition year was the Pembrokeshire public speaking competition where Matthew, Jack, Hannah, Sarah G and Eleanor won the senior debating competition. Jack also won the cup for best supporting speaker in the same competition. In February, Templeton YFC competed in the county English drama competition where we won the cups for best costumes and best set. Our last face to face competition was call my bluff where Sam, Sarah T and Maverick placed third overall. Our successful competition year didn’t stop when we moved to virtual competitions. Our members competed in many competitions and challenges from NFYFC and we had many of our entries shared with YFC members from all over the country. Our members have had success at the Pembrokeshire’s Virtual Field day in both the
auctioneering competition and the fence decorating competition. Jack won the auctioneering competition and in the fence decorating competition Maverick came 1[st] and Phoenix placed 3[rd] . In the junior judging competition on the virtual field day, both Maverick and Phoenix received highly commended for their entries. The success has continued to our virtual county rally where Sam won the spring time photography competition and placed second in the farming photography competition. Well done to all members who competed in any competitions this year, you have all done the club proud.
We have had some enjoyable club nights this year including a night of games at our opening social hosted by Rally Queen, Anghared and male ambassador, Jonathan. We have visited Pointz Castle, where our members sampled most of their wide range of ice cream flavours. We visited Simply Milk, where we learnt about robotic milking and how their milk vending machine works. We also joined with Martletwy YFC for a night of pumpkin carving which was great fun especially as some of our members had pumpkins bigger than their heads! We had a club Christmas meal with member’s young and old coming together for food and games. The fun hasn’t stopped since lockdown started when members had great fun having a go at the trending toilet roll challenge.
Our senior members have enjoyed attending a range of social events such as Ball in the Hall and the Queen’s Ball. Not being able to meet face to face hasn’t stopped us enjoying the dances, as members tuned into the virtual rally dance with DJ Dan Morgan.
Members have taken up training opportunities that have been available to them. Sarah has attended a train the trainer weekend course to become a county trainer
for curve modules. Sarah has also attended a DPJ Mental Health First Aid training session.
Club leader Matthew has also been the chairman of the county Rural Affairs committee this year. The highlight of this role has been the Rural Affairs trip to York which was enjoyed by all who went.
The club have had a busy year raising money and helping the community. This started with hosting the county harvest festival where with the help of clubs and supporters from across Pembrokeshire we collected 50kg of dried and tinned food for Narberth Food Bank, 26Kg of vegetables, which made soup for the community, and we collected £240 that we split between Help for Heroes and Bone Cancer Research Trust. A representative from Help for Heroes came to accept the check and gave a very informative talk to club members about the work that they do. We also served refreshments at the annual village fireworks display where we raised £660 for the club.
Members paid their respects by laying poppies at the village Remembrance service. We have continued to help out in the community during lockdown where we have joined in a partnership with Tuk - Tuk Time to deliver prescriptions and groceries to the vulnerable people in our community.
Although this has been a very different and difficult year, we have still managed success. We may not have many members but every member has made the club proud this year. However, none of this would be possible without our dedicated supporters, parents, trainers, club officials, club helpers and club leaders who give up so much of their time to help the club. We would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported us this year. We look forward to being able to join together again face to face as a club and a county whenever that may be.
Tiers Cross YFC
Tiers Cross started off the year with our very own Sarah-Jane having some fantastic results in the eisteddfod with her recitation, and club members had excellent fun as a team performing Ionners Cares. Sarah Jane also pulled it out the bag winning the Yule in the winter fair (and yes it wasn’t virtual!). Congratulations also to all the other members who entered! Also thank you to all members who competed in the virtual public speaking competitions.
of their help and guidance. We may have probably missed out people, so I do apologise, one last big thank you to the rest of the club officials from Tiers Cross this year, it hasn’t always been easy but as a team we’ve got there - the Tiers Cross way!
Good luck to the new club and county officials teams, the very best of luck for the forthcoming year.
Aled Thomas Club Chairman
We enjoyed some virtual social sessions! With Tiers Cross YFC holding the first ever virtual sesh of the season!
As the summer came and lockdowns were easing, we enjoyed a variety of trips including our annul trip to Mayfair golf range, a trip to clerkinhill with Keyston and a trip to Tiers Cross’s own Maize Maze at Green Farm.
We rounded off the year with a late rally, where members competed and enjoyed their day out (and night out after!!!) and a big thank you to Molly and Nia for helping out at the county show! And thank you to Nia and Charlotte for competing in the sports day.
Just to end with a few thank you’s, thank you to all those that have helped train for competitions, the club leaders for giving up their time to come to club and trainers who have helped with various competitions, our presidents Robbie and Debbie, Vice Presidents and of course our members and their ever-supporting parents.
Thanks you also to the county officials, Owain in the office, Tania and Sam for all

NFYFC Welly Relay Challenge
Back in March, we were passed the NFYFC Welly by Glamorgan, and continued the Welly Relay Challenge.
Clubs were asked to come up with a challenge involving Wellies and to cover 10 miles in distance each.
All clubs held their challenges on one day, and included walking 10 miles with pets, threelegged walking and walking while pushing a wheelbarrow filled with wellies! Families, past members, leaders and supporters all got involved in the challenges!
Throughout the day and during the weeks that followed, the just giving page was shared far and wide, and a total of £1,528 was raised for County funds. We are extremely grateful to everyone that donated and supported our members and thank you to everyone that partook in the challenges!
When we were done, the NFYFC Welly continued its journey across England and Wales as we pass it on to our neighbours in Ceredigion!
