Baglan Boys and Girls Club (BBGC)

Trustee Statement 29.4.2024

Baglan Boys and Girls Club has been based at the Evans Bevans Playing fields since the 1960s.

There are many clubs who benefit from the facilities managed by the charity. These include Baglan Dragons football club, Baglan Cricket, Baglan Boys and Girls Club Junior football, Netball Wizards, Cricket Wales. The Trustees remain committed to ensuring that the facilities fulfil their intended purpose of serving the community of Baglan and surrounding districts. Diligent management practices have been upheld, with updated policies and procedures available on the Baglanbgc.co.uk website, and prominently displayed within the premises.

There are 2 football clubs that utilise the facilities, Baglan Dragons and Baglan Boys and Girls Club. Many of BBGC members play for the clubs, either as mini, juniors or youth participants. The mini and juniors are run independently by a junior committee. The Trustees are delighted that the facilities and the hard work of the committee have enabled the FAW status of platinum to be achieved. The junior section continues to grow and has over 400 children and 80 volunteers participating. To accommodate this growth, external facilities have been utilised, underscoring the need for the football section to operate independently of the charity, mirroring the autonomy of other clubs.

The Trustees strive for the long term sustainability and the charities ability to invest in the facilities. Efforts have been made to diversify user groups, reducing reliance on any single entity and ensuring hire charges are appropriate in light of increased utility, insurance and maintenance costs. Through proactive fundraising initiatives, grant applications, events and sponsorship, the value of restricted funds has been bolstered, enabling targeted investment. Recent projects include the purchase of a new tractor to maintain the field, refurbishment of a new youth space, which welcomes youngsters from the community into a safe environment, the space has also been used to hold wellbeing sessions, training and community activities.

Proceeds from funds raised will continue to be invested into vital projects, such as expanding community spaces, upgrading amenities such as the changing rooms and toilets, and enhancing the electrical infrastructure. The current Trustees and Management committee remain resolute in their ambition to promote the charity’s mission and attract new Trustees to further its impact.

The balance held on 31[st] March was £137,137, of which £115,526 is restricted for use on defined projects.
