## **DARLEY PLAYING FIELDS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL REPORT**

## **2020/2021**

Clearly the Covid-19 pandemic situation had a large impact on the activities of the DPFA over the last year. Nonetheless we were able to provide a safe environment for the shop, childrens’ playground and the playing field. In addition to our Website (www.dpfa.org.uk) The DPFA also has a Google My Business presence where a number of people have left 5 star reviews of the shop and facilities. The Trustees were able to continue to meet via Zoom during the pandemic & as restrictions have eased, returned to in-person meetings.

There were just a few personnel changes to report for the 2020/2021 period: Laura Norwood resigned as a Trustee due to moving out of the area and Steve Willis also resigned as a trustee to be replaced by Lizzie Pybus as the Shop representative on the Trustee Committee.

Darley Village Shop continued to provide excellent service to the community with effective COVID measures & customers have been supporting the team by following protocols. Opening hours were initially reduced but have been restored to normal including Sunday opening more recently. The Café offering was also initially removed for safety reasons & the outside table put out of use both to avoid gatherings and due to the slippery surface on the outer decking. This issue was resolved by Trustees first cleaning the decking and fixing safety strips to allow year-round use. The Shop also continues with the Darley Good Neighbours Meals on Wheels.

Football activities were heavily compromised by COVID but a few matches were played and a number of training sessions held by FA accredited coaches.

We continue to have regular independent inspections of the childrens’ playground and recommendations acted upon. The inspections have shown that the items in the playground - which were installed in 2000 - are in good condition for their age. We also have a willing group of parent volunteers for when tidy-up work is required.

The adult fitness equipment has started to be recommissioned with some welding work required to complete the safety restoration. The new signage & in/out gates are working well & the playground is be used safely.

The 2020 bonfire and firework display night that was planned of course fell victim to the pandemic. The Trustees are planning to run the event in 2021 subject to the continued easing of COVID restrictions.

The Trustees have identified the raised plot of land at the west end of the playing field as a key development target over the next two to three years. A number of possibilities have already been discussed. The project plan includes firming up on preferred schemes and conducting a village consultation exercise in order to gain involvement and commitment to the preferred outcome. A planning consultant has been engaged to help scope and cost the plans and assess viability. This will lead to a more detailed an effective consultation with village residents.

Finally, the trustees wish to thank all the grant providers for their very generous support in helping to fund the DPFA over a very challenging last twelve months.
