Governance and Trustees
The Helmsley Recreational Charity (The charity} is an amalgamation of two charities, Helmsley
Recreation Ground and the John Atkinson Memorial Playing Field. under a scheme prodU￿d by the
Charity Commission in December 2006. Helmsley Town Council is the Sole Trustee of Helmsley
Recreational Charity.
Charitable Objectives as set out in the governlng document are:
1. In the interests of social welfa￿. lo improve the conditions of life of the beneficiaries wilhoLrt
distinction of political, religious or other opinions by the provision and maintenance of a
recreation ground, and
2. In the interests of social welfare, Io iTnprove the conditions of life of the beneficiaries wilhoul
distinction of political, religious or olher opinions by the provision and maintenance of
facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation.
Report 2025-2026
The report covers 12 months to the 31st March 2026. The Charity has leased ils facilities. except for
the Car Park, lo two Charitable Incorporated Organisalions, the pool to Helmsley Open Air Swimming
Pool CIO and the rest of the site to Helmsley Sports Club CIO.
Work was carried out at the car park during the year and this used up the sinking fund of £5,000. After
professional advi¢e on layout was received along with a risk assessment, the car pafk was resurfaced,
a one-way system and a central bay were created. disabled parking spaces by the pedestrian gale
were allocated and signed, a speed limit introduced and a new fieldgale to the Sportsfield was pul up.
The Charity intends lo issue a new lease lo Helmsley Sports Club CIO, one which combine5 the 2
current leases and which will have significant changes of terms in. The new lease area will exclude the
Play Area which is to return lo the care of Helmsley Recreational Charity and the small area of land
currently occupied by the gas lank and the storage Container as the Pool wish to lease this to improve
their facilities.
Grants
The Charity does not usually award any grants though it may under the terms of the Goveming
Documenl.
Details of any funds materlally in deficit
No ftjnds were materially in deficit. VAT claims are made after the end of the financial year.
As the Charily's annual income was over £25,000, an independent person carried out an independent
examination of the chartly's accounts.
Pollcy of the Charity in r¢spe¢t of reseNes
Two working groups were set up to plan for the financial ftjture of Ihe Charrty, one with representatives
of Helmsley Sports Club, the other with represenlalives of the Pool. Neither has met.
