Chair Report Kendal Lads & Girls Club -

This is my first year as Chair of the Kendal Lads & Girls Club, it was big boots to fill taking over from Mark who retired after successfully steering the organisation for many years.

This the 60[th] year of the KL&GC started very busy and didn’t let up really; the new kitchen went in soon after Christmas, then it was fundraising for the solar panels and batteries, then we got the news that Ambition (formally NACYP) are to be wound down, and want KL&GC to take on the custodial trusteeship of the buildings Deeds which required a CIO to be set up.

The new kitchen was very much looked forward to, it has had a couple of hic ups, as these things do, but it has made a difference for the groups who cook and bake in the Centre.

The solar panels and batteries were installed in September, another hic up as there was a national shortage of the ‘Gateway’, but it is all sorted now.

The solar generation has made 151Kwh of solar electricity since it was installed is just under half of all the electricity used by the Centre during this period. This is in the winter time too, so expecting good things in the spring time. This will go a long way towards securing the Centres sustainability.

We had a fun filled 60th celebration event in October. A very wet day didn’t dampen down the spirits, with group displays, crafting, music, tree planting and tea and cake what’s not to like. I would like to thank all those involved especially Ian and Sharon for all their hard work to make such a successful event.

The management committee had been discussing the need for the KL&GC to register as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) for a while now. But a letter from Ambition (formally NACYP) the national body for youth clubs back in the summer accelerated this need. The trustees would need to take custodial responsibility for the deeds for the land and building.

The CIO would take on the liability for the organisation and the building deeds and not the individual trustees. This was a lot of work to put in place, trustees and members were consulted. The KL&GC is now formally a CIO registered number 1215802. The new constitution mirrors the old constitution in terms of objects and in terms of leadership with trustees and members.

In becoming a member you have the opportunity to become part of this very busy and vibrant Centre providing a wide range of clubs and activities the young people and communities of Kendal. Your support is vital to the continuity of the Centre and the work that goes on here.

We will go back to this later on in the meeting.

I would like to thank the Committee and Trustees as well as our supporters and the user groups for their continued hard work and commitment throughout the year, without which the Centre would not be the successful and vibrant place it is today. In particular, I would like to thank Ian Parr, the Centre Manager, for all his hard work to make sure the Centre is viable, safe and welcoming.

I would also like to thank all those who have donated to the KL&GC this year and to the funders whose grants are very much appreciated and have made a big difference to what KL&GC can offer. Harold & Alice Bridges, Frieda Scott Charitable Trust, The Hadfield Trust, Westmoreland & Furness Council, Baywind Energy Community Trust, Westmorland & Furness Green Enterprise Hub, Cumbria Social Enterprise Partnership, CCF myLakland Trust, Roselands Community Trust, Westmoreland & Furness Children & Young People Fund.

Thank you for joining us this evening it is very much appreciated.
