- ANNUAL REPORT: 2024 25

Welcome

Welcome to the annual report covering the 2024-25 season. During the year we have continued our plan to improve the facilities at Colebridge YPC for the benefit of the membership.

There have been several upgrades this year. A new drive before Winter set in was the first and biggest project of the year and has made access much more comfortable to the club in all weathers. It was a significant expense but needed doing and some contributions were made from the businesses on the parade.

Next was the floor replacement in Room 1. The old floor had been down for 60 years or so and multiple planks had split or cracked. Thanks to Mike Bowen for leading the installation of the new floor and to his team of volunteers. It seems to be settling down nicely. There are also 2 new Cornilleau match tables for the new season plus 2 additional Joola practise tables and a new extractor fan in room 1.

The advent of the new tables has enabled us to donate three of the older tables to a worthwhile cause. This year they were presented to The Edge Academy.

Finally, over the Summer the Gents toilets have been renovated with a urinal added and repositioning of the sink and hand drier.

Our club continues to grow and has a healthy membership. Thanks to our coaching programmes and dedicated coaches our playing abilities, at all ages and skill levels, have improved and as a result our achievements both locally and nationally are very commendable. There are further details on these achievements in the report below.

It would be remiss of me not to thank the committee for all their commitment and hard work throughout the year to ensure that Colebridge TTC runs smoothly so that we can all enjoy our table tennis.

Thank you to everyone for your support over the last year and I would like to wish all members a successful and enjoyable 2025-26 season.

With Kind Regards,

John

JUNIOR PERFORMANCES

We are privileged to have so many young people representing our Club, both locally and nationally, however, Ian has picked those who he feels deserves a special mention across all levels of experience.

Nathaniel Saunders: England ranked no. 30 in Junior Boys. This year Nathaniel went one better than last year with the Warwickshire County Junior team winning the Premier division for the first time in decades. He also came runner up in the Nottingham 4* U21 tournament and with the County Seniors team in Division 1A. Late in the season Nathaniel represented the Birmingham league in the Willmott Cup team where they came 2[nd] place nationally.

Sakinah Damji: England ranked no. 9 in U12 Girls and no. 13 in U13 Girls. Sakinah won a Silver medal in U12 girls doubles at the Mark Bates Ltd National U10 to U13 Championships. She was then selected for the England Futures training camps and now the England Hopes competition on the 21[st] September. Excellent performances in the County Cadet 2nd team also helped them gain first place in Division 1B.

Charlotte LokChing Wong: no. 9 on the U14 and no. 13 on the U15 Girls rating list. Charlotte qualified for the National Schools Individual Finals for U13 Girls and helped the Warwickshire Junior 1[st] Team to their win in the Premier division. She also played for England in the Senior Schools International in Jersey winning a bronze medal with her team.

Hassan Damji : England ranked no. 27 in U15 Boys. Hassan represented Warwickshire in the Cadet 1[st] team in the Premier division and gained good development experience in Division 2 of the new National Series U15 Boys. This paid dividends in local league where he finished with a 70% win average in the Premier division and was unbeaten in Summer League Division 1 (24/24). Finally, he won a bronze medal in the Carter Cup with the Birmingham league team and reached the round of 32 in the international Pristina Open U19.

Jack Ganderton: really steady improvement in Junior British Clubs League with a 77% win average. He was the Junior Singles champion and Senior Mixed Doubles winner at the Bromsgrove Closed Championships, showing a very good temperament under pressure. Jack has developed through local league play (Stratford and Bromsgrove) and has worked consistently well over the last 2 years in his coaching sessions.

Jaymas Ng, Rex Ho, Nokulus Lam and Haymas Ng: all four of these Colebridge players represented Tudor Grange Academy in the National Schools Team Finals for U16 Boys. A great effort and Jaymas Ng has really pushed to take this school competition seriously for the last two years now.

Hazel Lam, Hailey Lam and Sheryl Chui: these three Colebridge players represented Arden Academy in the National Schools Team Finals for U16 Girls. A fantastic achievement competing against very table tennis focused schools.

Starry Sheung: Starry represented Warwickshire County in both the Junior and Senior 1[st] teams this season, contributing significantly to the Junior team winning the Premier division. Starry also represented Warwick School in the Under 19 boys where they reached the National Schools Team Finals and won a bronze medal.

Nokulus Lam (U13 Boys) and Hazel Lam (U16 Girls), : these players did brilliantly to qualify and play at the Butterfly National Schools Individual Finals in April after winning the Warwickshire Individual titles.

SENIOR PERFORMANCES

Craig Allen won a Bronze medal in the Men’s Singles Classes 9-10 at the Sheffield National Para Championships in July 2025. He was also selected for the President’s Select team in the traditional end of season Maurice Goldstein Cup Final.

Sam Henderson and Hawley Ellicott finished 3[rd] and 4[th] in the Birmingham Premier division averages but the team could only finish 2[nd] due to teammate Ben Wilson’s injury this season. Hawley and Sam were also winner and runner up in the Bromsgrove Closed Senior Men’s final.

Hiu Fai Lau had a strong showing in the Worcestershire Closed Championships with runners up medals in both Veteran Men’s Singles and Veteran Men’s Doubles.

Ash Kapadia and Frank Cotter finished 3[rd] and 4[th] in the averages in Division 1 for Colebridge E and Colebridge F. Colebridge E did very well to come 2[nd] in Division 1 thanks to Darius Mrowinski and Daniel Ranford also making the top 10 in the averages.

On the expenditure side, we have spent £53,117.74, which was a reduction of 24.4% compared to the previous financial period. A substantial proportion (£23,257.11) was for the two main improvement projects – drive surface improvement and room one floor replacement. Therefore, our cash balance has reduced significantly from £35,106 in July 24 to £21,739 at the end of July 25.

DEVELOPMENT

Colebridge has continued to develop in various avenues over the season, improving the reputation across the county and country! An additional Junior Coaching session was added on Saturdays at 1pm to cope with demand. There are now 10 junior coaching sessions taking place on a weekly basis, including TT Kidz and a Girls Only session on a Monday.

Colebridge have received £500 funding from the Baron Davenport Charity to provide some financial support towards support of the Girls Coaching. As a club, we are very grateful for the ongoing support of the Baron Davenport Charity.

Congratulations to Maysum Damji, who in September 2025, successfully passed his Level 1 Coaching qualification.

There is a small group for adult coaching regularly on a Thursday afternoon, several adults have 1 to 1 lessons and the coaching team will also be looking to put on an evening slot depending on room availability.
