CHAIR’S REPORT
Welcome and thank you for joining us at our Annual General Meeting for 2026. My name is Samantha Hall and I am the Chair for Shuttington & Alvecote Parish Hall.
Our committee consists of the following members:-

The success of our Village Hall keeps on growing. This is down to the commitment, dedication and hard work of the committee. All committee members play a key role keeping our hall clean and well maintained. This is reflected in how much the hall is now used on a regular basis and the increase in booking enquiries.
The success of our hall is reflected by our long term hirers. Heart of England Whippet Club – since 2005 Dog Training Thursday evenings – started using our facilities 8 years ago Tamworth Archery Club, Saturday mornings – since 2014 Yoga, Friday evenings – since 2019 NRG Dance; Monday evening, Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon since 2020.

The coffee mornings, held the first Monday of each month, continue to be a firm favourite with its regulars. Even though the coffee morning does not start until 10.30 am, some patrons arrive some 20 minutes early to ensure that they get their favourite seat and secure their favourite slice of homemade cake. All cakes are kindly made by various residents of the village. Their kind donations each month help make the coffee morning the success that it has become. The April coffee morning was held on Good Friday which was well attended and enjoyed. The Tamworth Twangers played for us, providing some background music which was enjoyed by everyone. A raffle was also held, along with several games of bingo. On the whole, the morning was a great success. Notwithstanding, I would like to express thanks to those who help out with the coffee mornings, but are not on the committee. Their help and assistance is greatly appreciated.
The VH continues to have a close working relationship with the PC which includes the upkeep of the field and surrounding area. The field is maintained by Nick Thomas, along with the play park. These areas are enjoyed by dog walkers, families and friends. In recent weeks, the decision was made to ask for the services of Daniel Puicar to help with the areas directly outside of the hall; the patio area and gravelled area adjacent to the hall and car park. Daniel has done a tremendous job already removing the weeds and tidying

the grass verges. The patio area has been weeded and re-sanded. The planted wooden troughs on the patio have also been attended to. Daniel has also cleared the car park of weeds and excess vegetation. Even though the car park is not the responsibility of the VH, we decided that keeping it clean, neat and tidy adds to the aesthetics of our lovely hall. This will be on going to help keep things under control. Thank you Daniel.
The toilet project, which I spoke about last year, has now been completed. A full refurbishment of the ladies, gents and disabled toilet has been undertaken, with the addition of a baby changing table in the disabled toilet. To complete the refurbishment, we need 3 new doors that lead into the toilets. These will be purchased and fitted in the next few weeks. The refurbishment was achieved by grant money which was obtained by Lisa Turner. Lisa is a great asset to us and our thanks go to her.
Over the Christmas period, the hall and kitchen were repainted, which the committee conceded was overdue. Due to the high volume of use that the hall has on a weekly basis, the decision has been made that the hall and kitchen are to be repainted each year during the Christmas closure. There will be a strict 2 week closure over the festive period in order for the painting to be carried out. The hall will not be available to anyone during this period. By painting the hall annually, it will keep our hall looking fresh and clean and continue to be enjoyed by all who use it.
In March, we held a Rock Choir evening which was a sell-out and enjoyed by all who came. Another date has been booked for the Rock Choir in 2027.
The VH now has its own FB page, for those who are on social media. This has been set up by Rachel who has worked tirelessly to get the page up and running and get it linked in to internet searches. Updates are regularly posted by Rachel, which includes the weekly timetable of hires throughout the week. We hope this will help to raise our profile as a VH and help anyone looking to join any of the classes that are held here.
Our Autumn Fair is being held on Sunday 11 October, details of which will be discussed nearer the time.
We are always looking for different events to put on. If anyone has any suggestions of events we may hold, please contact a member of the committee.
To summarise, we have got a VH that we are proud of. We have a dedicated committee and support from people within the village and from outside the village. We look forward to our continued success as a VH and welcoming new people to the hall. Anyone wishing to join the committee is welcome.
