Middleton Recreation Room (Known as Middleton Village Hall) 



## **Our mission** 

Middleton Village Hall Charity is registered with the Charities Commission for England and Wales, Charity Number 522967 

The Hall was established for the benefit of those in the Parish of Middleton, for communal purposes, social entertainment and like recreational uses 

## **Our History** 

The  Hall  was  established  in  1925  by  the  Rt  Hon.  Michael  Guy  Percival  (the  Baron Middleton), the Hon. Tatton Lane Fox Willoughby and two others; The plot was increased in 1948 following a Deed of Gift for the improvement of that facility. (Deed of Gift 12[th] July 1948) 

The Hall and its land is lodged with the Official Custodian. The Official Custodian is a corporation created by statute to hold land on behalf of charities; in practice he/she is a member of the Charity Commission’s staff who is appointed to this role. 

Over  the  past  5  years,  the  hall  has  undergone  significant  refurbishment  and redecoration. An extension was added during 2022, achievable through a donation from  HS2  (Groundworks  Ltd)  and  generous  donations  and  work  from  village residents 

## **Trustees and Management Committee** 

During  the  2022/23  financial  year  the  following  served  on  the  Management Committee, with some also being formal Trustees of the Charity; 

Susan Courbet (Trustee) Mike Jackson Graham Smith (Trustee) Ed Jones Peter Rotherham (Trustee) Phil Milligan (Trustee) 

Each member was a volunteer and carried the responsibility for the management of the hall, its safe running and its continued improvements. 

## **Key Events in 2022/23** 

## Hall Use 

The hall continued to provide facilities for a number of clubs and societies. It was also used regularly by local (trading) associations and a number of villagers for their own celebrations. The users included: 

- Middleton Art Society 

- Middleton Badminton Club 

- Middleton Friendship Group 

- Temperley Dance 

- Robert (???) Dance Tutor 

- 



## Hall Improvements 

During the year the following improvements were achieved, mainly through the efforts and energy of village volunteers, but also with generous contributions from others. 

This included: 

- The Hall extension 

- Replacement of the sound system 

- Improvements in the car park 

- Further landscaping 

- Provision of broadband internet
