KING GEORGE MEMORIAL HALL 2655 Stratford Road, Hockley Heath, Solihull, B94 5NH Chair's Report 2024 Good evening and thank you all for attending this meeting. The King George Memorial Hall is a registered charity with a proud and longstanding history. The Hall was generously donated in 1952 by Mr. Higgs of Nuthurst, for the benefit of local residents living within a two-mile radius. At the time of the gitl it was stipulated that the Hall must be registered with the Charity Commission to ensure its use remained for the good of the community. Today, the Hall is overseen by a group of Trustees who use the Hall themselves, alongside co-opted Trustees who contribute their professional skills and knowledge to support the charity's work. Part of the building remains in use under the charitable covenanL while another section is currently leased to the Hockley Heath Social Club. Reflections on 2024 I am very pleased to report that the Charity has enjoyed another strong and positive year. We have now ful ly recovered from the difficulties faced in 2023 following the unsuccessful Icgal case brought by the Social Club. The Trustees, together with our community supporters, have worked hard to strengthen thc Hall's future, and this effort has been rewarded with a year of vibrant activity and continued success. The Hall continucs to be a valued community hub, welcoming a wide variety of groups, activities, and events catering for all ages-from our youngest residents to those in their later years. Community Events: Our programme of events has been extremely well received, with many seIling out quickly. Highlights included bingo evenings, skittles nights, open days, afternoon teas, police beat surgeries, and a number of tribute nights. We are committed to expanding this programme even further in the coming year. Private Hire and Charity Events= Bookings for private functions remain strong, with the Hall also supporting the activitics of other charitable organisations. This provides both a valuable service to the community and important income for the maintenancc of the building. Social Club Responsibilities: Under the ternis of the lease and court rnlings, the Social Club has continued to undertake necessary repairs. Thc Tru5tces rcmain cominiLled io ensuring all essential maintenance is Complete￿ protecting this much-loved building for future generations. Seasonal Celebrations: Once again, the children's Christmas party was a highlight of the year. Due to its popularity, two separdte parties were hel(L both of which were filled with joy, laughter, and festive spirit. The Christmas Bazaar was equally successful, with Shirley Brass Band delighting attendees and local groups contributing with a variety of stalls. Thank you to the Trustees who help at this evcnt.

Looking Ahead to 2025 The year ahead promises to be both busy and exciting. Our primary focus will be on undertaking much-needed repairs and upgrades to the Hall, including a new roof and an improved heating system. These works are essential to ensure the Hall remains safe, welcoming, and fit for purpose for the community. We are also proud to announce that in 2024, the Hall was once again recognised at the Midlands Enterprise Awards, winning the title of "Best Local Community Hall" for the second consecutive year. This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the Trustees, volunteers, Hall manager, and of course, the residents of Hockley Heath who continue to support and cherish the Hall. On behalf of everyone involved, I extend heartfelt thanks to those who nominated us for this award-it is an honour that means a great deal to our community. Acknowledgements I would like to close by expressing my sincere thanks to my fellow Trustees, to our Hall Manager, and to the many volunteers who freely give their time and energy to ensure the Hall thrives. Finally, I wish to that￿ th¢ residents of Hocklcy Heath and the wider community for your ongoing support. Your continued use of the Hall ensures that Mr. Higgs's generous gift in 1952 continues to enrich community life more than 70 years later. Signed: Dated.. Position: Chair of Tn￿eeS
