## Chair of Trustees’ Report

I am very proud to be able to work with all the volunteers at 1st C&A especially after the challenging times we have been through. Despite all the difficulties the group has continued to provide young people with valuable activities and fun throughout the year and have been supportive of each other. I would like to thank all the adults and children involved for their determination and dedication to the group and Scouts as a whole.

From a trustees’ point of view we have continued to ensure that the day to day logistics of running an organisation and the buildings has been maintained as well as considering the future of the group. Thanks to Mick and Di for keeping the building in tip top condition. Our plans for modernising the building have been taken as far as they can until the supply of materials and labour shortages have eased which hopefully will be soon. Meanwhile the hall has had a thorough sorting with the loft space and lock up being cleared and the final touches added to the storage facilities. We have regular and one-off rentals managed by June using new software. Our accounts have been modernised so that funds are easier to access and manage.

This year we can look forward to more camps, adventures and hopefully continue to expand our group so more people can benefit from Scouting both as children and adults. Once again thank you to everyone for making the group the success it is.

## Treasurer’s Report

For this accounting period, a lot of the financial year we were in lockdown and had restrictions in relation to hall rentals.

However, as our hall is rented out for numerous activities, it meant that we were eligible for Covid Grants from Broxtowe Borough Council. We only had to apply for the first one (which was £10,000) and then we continued to get grants throughout the year from them, totalling over £30,000. We also received notable grants from local councillors Eric Kerry and Richard Jackson of £1,400 each from the Councillor’s Divisional Fund. We also benefited from the Coop again, and numerous others. A special thanks to the Group Scout Leader for being very active in this area.

With the hall out of use, a number of projects were carried out, both internally and externally, most noticeably the new storage unit to the rear of the building. A lot of planning for future improvements to the building are underway, to which a lot of the grants have assisted with.

As things have opened up, there is a lot planned for group members, and I hope that they can look forward to a more active year ahead.

Richard Short, Treasurer

## Group Scout Leader’s Report

The financial year covered by this report is quite possibly one of the most challenging in the groups’ history. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic halted our usual activities and resulted in our volunteers having to completely rethink what Scouting looked like, without being able to meet face to face. Despite the restrictions imposed, our teams were able to continue to provide a programme of activities (with much thanks to Zoom) and managed to even have some faceto-face meetings during periods of reduced restrictions.

We are fortunate enough to make it out of the other side of COVID with strong financial reserves and a strong group of volunteers who are continuing to lead the group. This has resulted in a quick return to more normal Scouting. I’d like to take the opportunity to thank all our Leadership and Group Trustees for all their hard work in the past year. C&A would not be possible without them.

## **11 The District Commissioner**

PG invited Simon Clark to say a few words.

“This group is now the 3[rd] largest group in the district which is a huge achievement by leaders, exec and trustees. The group is one of the few which managed to increase their numbers, helping us to keep loss of members down to -13%.

I am often asked, “When are we going to restart?” Well how long is a piece of string? I don’t honestly believe that we’ll go back face-face by Easter. Government will want to see impact of all schools opening. Scout association want to have their say. Makes more sense to start at the beginning of a new academic term. We should start looking at what kind of face-face meetings we could run indoors or outdoors so we are ready to press the button when the time comes.

It’s nice to see numbers of leaders growing and plans for a 2[nd] scout group when numbers permit.

I am looking forward to seeing numbers double by next census in October!”

There were no questions to Simon and Pamela thanked him for his support.

**13 Closing remarks**

PG thanked everybody for coming and declared the meeting closed.
