## **Governance and management**
The charity is operated under the rules of its constitution adopted 17 December 1971 and most recently amended 27th November 2008.
Trustees are elected (at the AGM) and/or co-opted under the terms of the constitution, having been recruited from volunteers, user groups and the local community.
## **Objectives and activities**
The objects of the charity include;
- to promote the benefit of the inhabitants of Dunkirk and Old Lenton and the neighbourhood without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race, physical and mental disabilities or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the said inhabitants and the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations in a common effort to advance education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare for recreation and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life for the said inhabitants;
- to establish or secure the establishment of a Community Centre and to maintain and manage the same (whether alone or in co-operation with any local authority or other person or body) in furtherance of these objectives.
- to promote such other charitable purposes as may from time to time be determined.

## **Public benefit statement**
The Trustees confirm that they have complied with the duty in section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's general guidance on public benefit, 'Charities and Public Benefit'.
## **Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit**
Trustees manage the centre, employ staff to ensure its smooth running, manage resources and funds sufficient to run the centre to provide facilities for the whole community. The aim is to provide opportunities for training, sporting activities, leisure time activities and to promote education of all kinds for all age groups.
The centre has been a popular focus for the community, providing opportunities for leisure time activities, festival celebrations, training, educational facilities and as a meeting place for all, whatever age group, whatever interests. We normally host a wide variety of activities, cultural, social, religious and fitness, and also maintain a place for local people to celebrate their lives. We are gradually getting back to preCovid numbers.
## **Summary of the main achievements during the period**
Last year we were very pleased just to have survived. This year more activities/groups have returned and our diary is looking better. The Centre has begun to recover following closure for the Pandemic. Groups and training courses were returning but the Centre was still quiet on weekdays. Our quarterly returns looked fairly healthy and our bank balance stabilised. UHDN Play scheme returned for two main holiday periods; First Aid training for educational and community groups increased; Alcoholics Anonymous are still with us. Other Sunday Church groups continued meeting together with activities for children (dance and karate); Coffee mornings re-commenced in September 2021 but have not seen much growth. We held several Quiz Nights during the year and took part in the Lenton Fun Day at Lenton Rec. We have seen an increase in community bookings for parties/events/cultural gatherings which is healthy.
ROBYN'S WORLD - At the October 2022 meeting, trustees agreed for us to run a new project, a Role Play Centre for under 5s. Research showed a lack of appropriate facilities in this area. Many children were born in ‘Lock-down’ and lacked opportunities to mix with other children. Many parents and carers were also looking for groups to attend.
A grant was sourced from the Local Councillor’s Fund to buy the initial equipment and set-up. Storage was provided for this group to ensure the hall's availability when other groups use the Centre. The Role Play Centre launched at the end of November 2022, using the name Robyn’s World, offering two sessions a day, 4, 5 or 6 days a week.
Further funding was applied for to increase the variety of activities on offer and grants were received from East Midlands Airport for ‘ride-on’ vehicles and from Thomas Farr; a Nottingham based Charity, to buy sensory and outdoor equipment allowing the group to still meet alongside the University Hospital Day Nursery who use the Centre during longer school holidays.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of Dunkirk and Old Lenton Community Association (the charity) for the year ended 30 September 2023.
## **Responsibilities and basis of report**
As the trustees of the charity you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
