Haydon Bridge Community Association Report of the Management Committee for the year ended 31 March 2021. Haydon Bridge Community Association Trustees manage the Community Centre for the Village of Haydon Bridge and surrounding area.
The Management Committee aims to provide a first class venue accessible to local groups, organisations and individuals for educational, leisure and recreational activities. Within this our main objective is to improve the conditions of life for all the inhabitants of the local area without discrimination. We aim to manage and maintain the facility to a high standard. And to ensure the sound financial viability of the organisation and to manage resources effectively.
The coronavirus crisis has cast a long shadow over present and future activities. Due to the coronavirus pandemic the centre closed in March 2020 and did not reopen fully until July 2021. Bookings for the Centre are well below normal but continuing to improve and (before closure due to coronavirus restrictions) was constantly in use by our regular user groups. Some groups have been unable to return to regular meetings and/or have been disbanded.
Since the easing of restrictions some regular users groups have been able to return to near normal activities and there has also been an increase in new activities. These include Superstrikers which is a football-based activity session for children aged 2-5 years. Bee Zen with Jen providing clients with Meditation, Mindfulness & Reiki healing. Bootcamp fitness sessions. A local band are using the centre to practice. There have also been one or two private bookings.
Relatively little maintenance work has been necessary this year, but a serious oil leek resulted in a major repair to one of the oil boilers. A serious clean-up was necessary and both boilers

and all pipework were removed temporarily so that under floor joists could be inspected and made good and new flooring could be installed. As luck would have it this all happened while the centre was closed. Thank goodness for our insurers.
We have carried out remedial work on the lean-to roof and installed additional outside lighting at the back door and replaced a broken flood light for the car park. Sensors have been fitted to the toilet areas
Over the last 2 years we have made some improvements to the kitchen as requested by our Lunch Club.
LED lights have replaced old style lights when needed.
The Centre’s risk and safety assessment policies were brought up to date to include Covid 19 measures. They are reviewed annually.
A website for the centre was developed with the help of Northumberland Village Halls Consortium who produced the template. The content of the website will be kept up to date as and when necessary.
The building continues to need regular maintenance such as;
Boiler’s servicing, annual checks on Fire Alarm, fire equipment and emergency lighting. Lift maintenance & Portable Appliance Testing.
The Trustees have taken the decision that room charges for regular users will be held at the current rates for the next financial year. Occasional users’ rates have increased slightly. Changes in income as groups come and go is also a risk we are mindful of.
The loss of revenue because of various Covid 19 lockdowns was mitigated by various government grant schemes including the job retention scheme.
The income of £41,193.21 was mainly made up by the grants made available by UK government and income from our insurance company to fund the boiler repairs. The total expenditure of £24,443.95 comprises mainly of repairs to the boilers, caretaker
wages, insurance for the building and oil, electricity and water rates.
