Chair’s Report 2025
Amazingly, 2025 sees me writing my 15[th] chair’s report! And, to continue on the theme of “length of time”, I feel I must begin my report this year by paying tribute to the long and successful association we have had with Playgroup/Preschool which, staggeringly, has recently notched up half a century. From the early days of protesting mums, through to the current requirements for Ofsted inspections etc. there have been many changes along the way, but it is fantastic to see it still going strong. Well done to Naomi and her helpers for a lovely day of celebrations recently with lots of great photos, which brought back many memories.
There have been no major works or repairs to the hall this year (although we are keeping an eye on the flat roof) but we do continually aim to maintain the fabric of the hall to encourage hirers. Jonathan did a great job on the ceiling fan in the main hall, which has also benefited from some old drama posters being displayed – a lovely reminder of the once thriving drama club and it’s “home” at the hall. The addition of a key safe has improved the safety of the hall and the simplification of the hire charges have both, hopefully, made Jonathan and Helen’s jobs easier. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for all that they do for the hall.
In terms of fundraising, we are extremely grateful for continuing income from supper quizzes and bingo, for both of which Joan works tirelessly – thank you Joan! Both provide enjoyable social opportunities, whilst also raising much needed funds. Likewise, the now well established panto, which continues to boost our coffers and provide fun for cast and audience alike and has, hopefully, become an annual event! We are currently looking at other possible fundraising events too.
Earlier this year, after many years as a part-time cleaner, Ann Standish resigned from her post but we have managed to fill the gap she left at least temporarily.
So, as another year draws to a close, I would like to extend my thanks to all the committee members for their continued and valuable support, but especially to my fellow officers, to Shay and Rachel (who also helps Joan at the supper quizzes)for their work on the website and panto and Pete for his expertise on all things connectd with solar power and batteries!
I hope I haven’t missed anyone out – apologies if I have!
Let’s hope that 2025/26 is another successful year, which after much frustration and patience from Julie, may well see us actually manage to open a new bank account with the Co-op Bank! Watch this space!!
