Gedney Hill & District Memorial Hall
Trustees Report 2024
Once again this year hiring’s of the hall for social events have continued to fall with
only three adult parties, four children’s parties and no wedding events. The Drama
group has gone from strength to strength and is now at its maximum intake.
Once again the hall is being supported by its regular community hirers, Keep Fit, the
WI, Golden Link, the Karate Club and this New Year Yoga classes have re-started
again.
In May we had a Frog Racenight, a good family event and fundraiser.
In June we held our biggest community event of the year, the D-Day 80 celebration.
The hall was filled on Thursday 6[th]June for a Fish & Chip supper and the National
Beacon lighting.
On Saturday 8[th]June the hall was open for breakfasts, 77 cooked in all!, through to
5.00pm with exhibits on show and a presentation on the D-Day landings given by ex-
Major Clive Osborne.
Monies became available for Warm Space events again this last winter period,
where people can attend the hall in the winter months and be given hot drinks and a
warm communal atmosphere to help them offset their cost of living expenses at this
time of year. This has been a successful venture and we have also provided hot
lunches at a nominal cost through our Scone Tuesdays, Thursday Lunch Clubs and
Sunday Lunches.
We concentrate our efforts at this time of austerity for people within our community
and strive to maintain our charitable objectives to provide a cost effective facility to
enable our community to meet and socialise, engage in recreation and be
entertained in an affordable and friendly communal space.
All the work undertaken by our committee has helped our successful year but we
must give a big thank you to our teams of volunteers who turn out and work tirelessly
to support the hall by helping in many ways at our events and especially with our
catering events as our numbers of attendees have increased significantly this year.
Finally, thanks go to all our committee members for their hard work and efforts this
last year, keeping us on track to meet our charitable aims in the community and we
look forward to working with them all again.
We also would welcome any new volunteers or Trustees to join the committee and
help continue our journey in the coming year.
