See Trustees, Report below. Trustees, Report Scouting is first and foremost about people. about the young people we serve, and about the volunteers whose energy, commitment and enthusiasm make it all possible. As a Trustee Board, we take seriously our role in providing the governance framework and strategic direction that enables the transformative experience of Scouting. Scouting needs a place to happen. and a great deal of our time and energy as a Trustee Board over the last year has been invested in bringing the long-running project of replacing the Group's headquarters building to the very final stages of completion. The impressive new building we now have is as much built on the redoubtable effort, resilience and drive of our Fundraising team, Building sub-committee and the numerous volunteers who have advised and as51Sted it, as it is on the bricks, steel and concrete that make up its more visible aspect. In fatt. this project has drawn widely and deeply on the many and varied talents of the whole Trustee Board and represents a confident investment in the future of the Group and the value of Scouting. No less challenging. has been ensuring that our young people have continued to enjoy the experience of Scouting despite the unavailability of our headquarters building for much of the year. The achievement of this is 3 testament to the resourcefulness of our leaders and helpers. the patience and flexibility of parents and carers and the generosity of the Loughborough Schools Foundation who provided access to alternative facilities. The Trustee Board is extremely grdteful to all for making this p055ible. The year has equally also seen changes to the Trustee Board. It was with profound sadness that we learned of the loss of our Quartermaster Tony Beirne last August following 3 short illness. Tony's calm willingness to help and cheerful pragmatism have been a powerful influence on all who met him and worked with him, Scouts
and he has left a profound and lasting impression on the Trustee Board and the Group as a whole. The Trustee Board also bid farewell to Gareth Rhodes. the Group Chair, who Stepped down unexpettedly on 15 April 2025. This seems an appropriate opportunity to express the gratitude of the whole Trustee Board for Gareth's contributions to the Group over the last two years. We in the process of recruiting a new Chair and hope to appoint in the coming weeks. th st At the end of an eventful and pivotal year for the l Nanpantan Scout Group, the Trustee Board look forward to seeing the Group settle into their new building and continue to thrive as they embark on another 365 days of adventure. Group Scout Leader We currently have 139 members within our 7 sections. with more starhng in the September term. At N3np3ntan we try and create 3 full and varied progrdmme with indoor and outdoor activities at the hut and out and about. We give the young people great fun & adventure in their Scouting journey. Nanpantan joined the rest of the district in May 2025 at the Blast Off Space Camp. This was 3 fantastic experience. making use of the various campsite activities and enjoying all the extras including a cinema, campfires. silent disco, crafting. games, inflatables and many. many more. Everyone was tired but happy after a great weekend. A special thanks to the sleep deprived leaders and parent volunteer Laura for showing up at 6.30am every morning to Start feeding us all! We've had lots of members gaining the Chief Scout award within our group, so well done to alll A lot of my time this year has been taken up with the building project. along with the building committee. I'd like to thank Prit for taking on some of my Group Scout Leader roles during this time, such as running the district Camp and general support. Scouts
The building project has been an idea for many, many years and is now a bricks and mortar realityl The builder has h'nished the main part of his work. and we are now making the fi'nal installations. I'd like to thank our builderTemple Smith Fine Homes who have always gone the extra mile to work with us in creating a fantastic new building for the Scout Group and the wider community. Whilst the building work has been ongoing the group have been temporarily housed at the Grammar School Scout building, plus many away from the base evenings. Thank you to all the members of the group and their families for accommodating the changes. and a huge thank you to the leaders for making it workl Big thanks to Kerry and Emma applying for so many grants and succeeding in obtaining the adequate funding to build and kit out the new premises. We are so excited to move in! We currently have leaders working tirelessly in all sections, but encourage additional people to join us, so that we can ensure the continuance of the Group in the years ahead. Can you help us? We are a very f riendly group of leaders I I wish to thank our Leaders, Section Helpers & Trustees for their impressive dedication to provide great Scouting experience5 for our young people over the past year. We 3150 appreciate the engagement from all the families of our Squirrels. Beavers. Cubs & Scouts! Thanks again to everyone- kids, leaders, trustee members and families. We feel that Nanpantan is a very special group. and the spirit of our members and the energy and ideas of our volunteers is what keeps it going. Carl Travis-Roberts- 1st Nanpantan Group Scout Leader: carltravis-roberts@nanpantanscouts.org.uk Squirrels-Thursdav Squirrels have had a super year- we have a large cohort move to Beavers so lots of eager new 4-year-olds joining us. They have been superb, joining in, having fun and starting their Scouting journeys. The Squirrels have had some fab opportunities to learn about camping including how to pitch a tent and a visit to the Loughborough District Camp where they were able to do lots of activities and see what the older Scouts get up ta. Scouts
This year we have worked on the Space badge, the Earth tribe badge, the Celebration badge, learnt about birds and their habitats and designed their own superhero countries and flags. We have lots of outdoor activities in the summer term including an adventure visit to the Oaks planned for our last session. We had a fabulous celebration at the end of the winter term where parents were able to come and see all the achievements of the Squirrels and a LOT of badges were awardedl Huge well done to Martha and Rosie who have both achieved their Chief Scout Acorn Awards. A huge thank you to all the leadership team. our parent helpers and particularly our superb young leaders, Claire and Evie. Jo (Squirrels Settion Leaderl Beavers- Tuesday This year saw a change in the Leadership Team for Tuesday Beavers. welcoming Jenny Jordan as Section Team Leader, alongside Marie Leeland and James Grosvenor who joined Claire Lickess and Nick Tinsley as Team Members and Saskia Thompson, who helped regularly as a parent volunteer. The team was also joined by three young leaders: Bethan. Daniel and Clan. This past year has been a busy, exciting, and memorable one for the Tuesday Beavers, who have embraced every opportunity with great enthusiasm. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence. and friendships grow along the way. Throughout the year. the Beavers have taken part in a wide variety of activities, both within our meeting hall and out in the community. Among the most meaningful experiences was our participation in Remembrance Sunday, where the Beavers proudly joined the parade to pay their respects-an important moment of reflection and learning for them In December, we spread festive cheer by going carol singing at Marwood Residential Home. The residents thoroughly enjoyed the performance. and our Beavers were fantastsc ambassadors, showing kindness and community spirit. Ajoint day trip with Wednesday Beavers to RAF Cosford for their Scout take over day saw many of the Beavers achieving their Air Activities Stage l and 2 badges. One of the highlights of our year was our indoor Christmas Camp, where the Beavers enjoyed games, crafts, and even a festive sleepover-all while learning valuable skills and growing in independence. This was a fantastic pre-cursor for later in the year, when many of our Beavers attended the District Camp, a brilliant opportunity to meet others from across the area and take part in a range of exciting outdoor activities. Both these camps were "firsts" for many of our Beavers- from their first night away from home, tirst night under canvas orfirst'nights away badge" A huge thank to Loughborough Schools Foundation for allowing use of their hut whilst Nanpantan's has been being rebuilt. In some circumstances this has forced us to be creative with our evening meetings, especially during the last two summer terms during which 311 of our meetings have been held out in the community. Some of our most enjoyable and memorable evening activities have included- Building bird boxes, where the Beavers learned basic woodwork skills and took pride in creating something that supports local wildlrfe. Scouts
Several "night" hikes, which was a thrilling adventure and a great way to build teamwork and navigation skills. A fascinating visit to the fire station, where the Beavers learned about fire safety. got a close-up look at the equipment and fire engines and felt the super soaking effect of the hoses first-hand ! A thrilling session of water sports at LOPC, where the Beavers tried canoeing and other fun water activities-an unforgettable experience for many. Alongside all our other meeting activities. these have culminated in us awarding over 300 badges this year including 9 Chief Scout Bronze Awards. A huge thank you to all the volunteers. young leaders and parents who have helped make this year possible. Beavers- Wednesday This past year has once again been full of adventures and badge work for our Beavers. Badges we have work towards include emergency aid. space. collectors. science, builders. creative and navigators. We have also been out and about exploring many new places including RAF activities day at RAF Cosford, a Morrisons store tour, Easter activities at St Mary's Church, Loughborough indoor bowls club and a visit to Geeta Bhawan Hindu Temple. We took advantage of our temporary locatr'on at Loughborough Grammar school and were treated to a guided tour of some of the oldest buildings on the site, we even got to go up to the top of the tower when it was snowy. The icing on the cake this year has been District camp. 9 of our Beavers chose to attend the 2 night event and were an absolute joy to spend time withl So many new experiences for them. not least of all spending 2 whole nights away from homel I So proud of all that came and took part in the event. We would like to give a special mention to our dedicated young leaders Isaac, William and Katie. Susan and I are forever grateful for all the help and support you give us each week. And finally thank you to our parents who continue to support us when we are out and about with the Beavers. We couldn't do it without you alll Here's to another year of adventures and exploring. Sophie & Susan- Wednesday Beavers team. Cubs- Monday (Nanpanthers Troop) Well, it's that time again, where did the year go? Cubs is still as fun due to the Cubs always making the best of what we do. They are always happyto have'Fun through Learning.. I have a great team to run the pack- Louise, Sarah and Alex and our Young Leaders-Alex, Tobias, Jacob and Sam for a while. Together they help deliver a great programme for the Cubs. 5 Cubs have achieved their Silver awards this year which is the top award within Cubs. Well done to them for their hard work. Some activities that we have done this year: The Cubs worked together to build Lego cars which they then tested on car tracks. There were some inventive designs. We had a tour of the Grammar School which became our temporary home. it was nice for the Cubs to see their new surroundings. Scouts
The County Cub trip this year was to the Science Museum in London, some of the Cubs attended and we had a great time looking at eveW(hing. Your children made it interesting as they asked questions and wanted to learn things. We have had a Distritt Camp which was really good as all the sections got to mix together to enjoy the weekend. The Cubs were tired by the end but had enjoyed it thoroughly doing activities like VR experience/inflatable assault courses & s1ide/mini crossbows/jungle trail/bouldering- just to name a few. We had dry weather which made it a great weekend. The Cubs had the challenge in Teams to devise drfferent 'Crazy golf. holes made from cardboard, they had to design and make them and then have them tested by the rest of the pack. Their artistic flair showed through io this activity. We have had 2 trips to the Fire Station. the first one lasted 10 minutes as the Fireman were called out. So, the Cubs saw how quickly they respond. Luckily the second trip was successful, and we had a full tour, and the Cubs got to use the hose and run through a water shower. they were a little damp to say the least. We are starting to make the most of the better weather as we have done a hike to the Outwoods while we are awaiting the new hut rebuild. We have a trip to the 'Bell Foundry, planned to learn about some local history. I wish to thank all the parents of the Cubs for their ongoing support and understanding during the hut rebuilding and venue re-location for meetings. We thank you and your children for making it a pleasure to run the 'Nanpanthers'. Also...rfyou feel you could be a helper to the Nanpanthers then please feel free to contact me. Malcolm. Louise. Alex & Sarah- Nanpanther CSL & team. Cubs- Thursday Another year has flown by with lots of fun and adventures for Thursday Cubs. We have had a full group of 24 Cubs for most of the year. Isobel has again been a fantastic young leader for us this- keeping us older ones on our toes! February saw an indoor l!) Secret Agent camp at the Oaks. The weather was glorious while the wannabe spies solved clues. puzzles and mysteries throughout the weekend. It started with defusing a 'bomb', and worked through numerous activities and tasks, taking on the black hole challenge, and of course the ever- popular visit to the tuck shop. The last challenge on Sunday afternoon was a Mission Impossible laser maze which finally released the Cubs to go home and debrief their adventures. We have just come back from the 'Blast Off, Distritt Camp with various other Scout groups from across Loughborough. The young people will have memories of campfire songs, tomahawk throwing, glass carving, the inflatable obstacle course. leather imprintin& kelly kettles. the black hole. bouldering, Vl headsets and much, much more. Group meetings have continued to be as varied and active as we can make them. Activities have included the much-loved chippy hike. playing beach volleyball at the University. watching a Premier League Wheelchair basketball match and a visit to the Great Central Railway. We've also completed the international and scientist badges, made Christmas crafts and used saws to create a key hook board. A special guest from France gave one evening an international twist and we also toured LSF while it has been our home for the year. io Scouts
Plans for the rest of this term include pond dipping, learning first aid, bsvvy building and the much-loved water night to end before the summer break. 170 badges have been achieved by Thursday Cubs since June 2024 and congratulations to our four Cubs who have achieved their Chief Scout Silver this year- well done to James, Jack, Ettie and Ben. Several have gone onto Scouts, so I hope they are enjoying that experience too. Jo, Carl, Richard, Nick & Isobel Scouts- Tuesday (Priory Troop) Priory Troop currently has 26 members. It has once again been a busy year: the Scouts have been working towards their Chief Scout Gold Award. We have done a few County and District led activities including Rambling Fox. Scogui night hike, Splash camp and summer camp at Holygate The Scouts have done many things. from lighting fires to service work up at the Oaks to rifle shooting. many hikes and Dragon boating with Loncliffe troop We are looking forward to District camp. and of course returning to our hut in the autumn term I would like to Thank Rachel, Ed, Ed, Adam and Euan for all their hard work and support through the year. Preeti Kitching Scouts- Wednesday (Longcliffe Troop) Over the past year, Wednesday Scouts have stayed strong at around 17 Scouts. With five Scouts completing their Chief Scouts. Gold awards. li Scouts
Over the past yearthe Scouts have completed the parts of their Challenge awards, have been on a Space Centre sleepover, learnt how to use an axe and saw safely. and undertaken a bike ride and bike maintenance. We also had an eventful trip to Splash camp that will live long in the memory, and I couldn't be prouder of how the Scouts helped clear camp before the water level got too high. The Scouts were also part of a District trip to Iceland and trip to Sheffield. Thanks to the other Leaders for their support on running activities. and to Loughborough Schools Foundation for hosting the Scouts over the winter while we build our new Headquarters. Yours in Scouting Joe Putt- Scout Leader Building Sub-committee Update Much has changed since the last AGM regarding our old and new building. In July 2024. we finally completed on the sale of the land to allow the project to begin. By the end of the summer holidays, we had cleared our building, moved wtems into storage and were ready to start the demolition phase. Thanks to everyone who helped over this phase as there was a lot of hard work involved over several weekends! As our builder started demolition, we also began to receive poswtive news on grants we had applied for which significantly reduced the shortFall and allowed us to proceed at pace without descoping any elements of the projett which was a relief all round. We only have relatively small shortfall now. with final campaigns focused on additional furniture/ other items to allow us to offer the building for community use. The building project itself has gone very smoothly with minimal extra costs as we've progressed through. Thanks to Carl, our GSL, who has been the key point of contact with our builder, tracking the project through on the Group's behalf! We are in the final stages! The focus over coming months will be sethng ourselves up in the new building and putting all the necessary processes and procedures in place to allow us to hire our space to the wider community. Thank you to all parents fortheir patience and support over the past year and hope to soon be able to share with you our new building and continue to provide all the activities for young people in an improved environment. Fundraising Update Ourfundraising efforts have continued this year, focusing a significant effort on raising funds via grant applications. to help fund the building of new facilities.
We will be raising a gift aid form for 2024/25 and expect this to be in the region of £2,300. We really appreciate everyone who has completed gtft aid forms as this really helps, if you haven't completed one or are unsure and you pay tax, please contact our Subscriptions secretary as it enables us to claim gift aid back and everything helps. We have had some considerable spend on the building development but as you will have seen the new building and grounds look amazing. If people can use the Online Scout Manager system it would be really appreciated, we have a good up take on it and it really helps our team in the administration. Thank you to everyone for their support and contribution, we really appreciate everything you do. 13 Scouts
