l am happy to report a very satisfactory years progress fDr Scouting In Wigan DistricL After the inevrtable fall
during Covid wp orp now seeing a Tnodest but signrficant increaso in numbers and with thc introduction Df the
new Squirrel section. l am sure thatthis growth will continue.
The Distrirt Team has worked well over the year organising events and supportsng groups. Their individual
section reports follow later in this document
Two of our Long-serving and well-known members are to be con9ratulated on receiwn9 Nknonal Awards in the
King'5 8irthday Honours. Our joint Prosident. Peter Nort. received the MBE and Norman Brown. of 3rd Hindley
Group was awarded the British Empire MedaL
Adult members will be aware of a number of changes In the pipeline which concern how we run our Jffairs.
Exccutive Committccs will becDmc Trustee 8oafd£ at borh fjroup and District Lovols. Thoro will be new titleq
for several of our volunteer roles. However. these change5 will In no way ¢hangÈ ourfundamentsl values and
purpDSe.
Our finances are In 9ood order thanks to the woik of c>ur Treasurer and volunteers who man the shop on
Saturdoy m¢>rnin9s. We aro..)150 fortunate to have %p.voral non-scout organisations who ronttho District HQ on
re9ular basis. The incomÈ that is raised helps to keep the building In a wel¢omin9 and orderly stste worthy of
our movement. Tht re-decor3tion prDgramme has been complo.tp.d this yeai and plans include improvempnt5 tD
the car park and strtne remed131 work on the roof. We are grateful to John Bilsborough for regui3rl¥ cutting the
grass 8nd keeping the outside of the building bdy.
Our annual 5t George's Day PBrade went ahead again in ApriL Owing to the demol￿on work In Market Street
we had to chango our assernbly point route. meeting for thc first time In Mesno5 Park and thon marrhing
along Mesnes Street a£ In past year5. We are grateful for the assistance we received from the Mayor, Chief
superintendent Wigham of Greater Manchester Police and the Councsl Events Team In organising the road
closures and thp nccessary safety issup£. Without their help the Par3do. would not havD boeD p055ible.
Gucsts included Deputy LiPUtcnant Mike Walmeslp.y, Mayor Maric Morgan, Wigan MP Lis3 Nandy. and several
Council Members. Haviny their 5UPPOrt Is a tremendous honour and we thank them for giving up their valuable
time.
