## **12[th] Widnes St Luke’s Scout and Guide Group**

## **Annual Report**

## **April 2000 – March 2021**

## **Introduction**

The financial year from 1[st] April 2020 to 31[st] March 2021 ended up being a very different year to any we had experienced previously and it is fair to say that the plans all groups had for the year had to be put on hold as we started April 2020 in a national lockdown due to Corona virus.

The national lockdown meant the 8 well established Scouting and Guiding groups who had, up until this point, met weekly in the HQ along with the other community groups who used the building, had to stop meeting in person and the building was closed.

The 8 uniformed groups based at Moon Meadow Head Quarters at this time were:

- ❖ 12[th] Widnes (St Luke’s) Beavers

- ❖ 12[th] Widnes (St Luke’s) Cubs

- ❖ 12[th] Widnes (St Luke’s) Scouts

- ❖ 16[th] Widnes Rainbows

- ❖ 17[th] Widnes Rainbows

- ❖ 16[th] Widnes Brownies

- ❖ 17[th] Widnes Brownies

- ❖ Widnes Aquila Explorers.

These groups afford opportunities for children and young people aged from 5 years to 18 years to get involved in uniformed group activities. The groups use Moon Meadow as the base for their weekly meetings, a safe place to undertake all sorts of fun activities including crafts, games, sports, badge work, cooking, camping, the list is endless… The children enjoy their time shared with their peers having fun whilst learning valuable skills, including first aid, orienteering, pioneering, camping, team working, but during this time none of this face to face activity was possible.

## **Executive Committee**

The Executive Committee exists to support the Group Scout Leader in meeting the responsibilities of their appointment, with members of the Executive Committee acting collectively as Charity Trustees of the Group.

During this difficult year the Executive Committee Members were unable to meet in person and the Annual Meeting, planned for May 2020, did not take place.

However, Committee members continued to communicate as required to support the progress of the roof project.

## **Moon Meadow HQ**

The weekend before the first lockdown was announced, in March 2020, volunteers met at Moon Meadow to undertake a ‘spring clean’, which was a great success - many hands make light work. But unfortunately we weren’t able to make the most of the premises after this as, due to lockdown, the premises closed and remained closed, during the remainder of 2020 and into 2021.

The work on the roof project continued on in the background meaning that outline plans for the project were agreed with our architects and project managers, Finlason Partnership, and then towards then end of 2020 we were able to apply for planning permission for the roof project, which was granted in December 2020.

This meant the focus for the beginning of 2021was preparing to go out to tender for the roof works, at the beginning of April 202; as by this point we had managed to reach our target and raise £100,000, which was our budget for the roof works.

## **12[th] Widnes Beavers, Cubs and Scouts**

April 2020 found us in new territory with the first lockdown and none of our uniform groups were able to meet in person and so we kept in contact with our young people and their parents via social media and emails.

During the remainder of 2020 this situation did not change and it wasn’t until early 2021 that our Beaver Group began to meet via Zoom, unfortunately our Cub and Scout were not able to meet virtually and so communication with them continued via social media and emails.

## **16[th] and 17[th] Widnes Rainbows and Brownies**

As of April 2020 the guiding groups based at Moon Meadow were also unable to meet in person but as the year progressed and it became clear that the pandemic was not a short-term situation some of the groups began to meet again via Zoom.
