They consist of a Royal Charter, which in turn gives authority to the Bye Laws of the Association and The Policy, Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association. The Group is managed by the Trustee Board, the members of which are the ‘Charity Trustees’ of the Scout Group which is an educational charity. As charity trustees they are responsible for complying with legislation applicable to charities. This includes the registration, keeping proper accounts and making returns to the Charity Commission as appropriate.

The Trustee Board consists of 3 independent representatives, Chair, Treasurer and Secretary together with the Group Lead Volunteer, individual section leaders (if opted to take on the responsibility) and parent’s representation (where possible) and meets every 2 months.

Members of the Trustee Board complete 'Trustee Introduction' training within the first 5 months of joining the Board.

This Group Trustee Board exists to support the Group Scout Leader in meeting the responsibilities of the appointments and is responsible for: The maintenance of Group property;

The raising of funds and the administration of Group finance; The insurance of persons, property and equipment; Group public occasions; Assisting in the recruitment of leaders and other adult support; Appointing any sub committees that may be required; Appointing Group Administrators and Advisors other than those who are elected.

Risk and Internal Control
The Group Trustee Board has identified the major risks to
which they believe the Group is exposed, these have been
reviewed and systems have been established to mitigate
against them. The main areas of concern that have been
identified are:
Damage to the building, property and equipment. The Group
would request the use of buildings, property and equipment
from neighbouring organisations such as the church,
community centre and other Scout Groups. Similar reciprocal
arrangements exist with these organisations. The Group has
sufficient buildings and contents insurance in place to
mitigate against permanent loss.
Injury to leaders, helpers, supporters and members. The
Group through the capitation fees contributes to the Scout
Associations national accident insurance policy. Risk
Assessments are undertaken before all activities.
Reduced income from fund raising. The Group is primarily
reliant upon income from subscriptions and fundraising. The
group does hold a reserve to ensure the continuity of
activities should there be a major reduction in income. The
Board could raise the value of subscriptions to increase the
income to the group on an ongoing basis, either temporarily
or permanently.
Reduction or loss of leaders. The group is totally reliant upon
volunteers to run and administer the activities of the group. If
there was a reduction in the number of leaders to an
unacceptable level in a particular section or the group as a
whole then there would have to be a contraction,
consolidation or closure of a section. In the worst case
scenario the complete closure of the Group.
Reduction or loss of members. The Group provides activities
for all young people aged 6 to 18. If there was a reduction in
membership in a particular section or the group as whole then
there would have to be a contraction, consolidation or closure

Group Lead Volunteer – Annual Report 2023 – 2024

3[rd] Davyhulme has again grown from strength to strength. The Leaders/Helpers have amazed me for another year.

Amazing trips with Young People attending the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea, although not the trip that was expected, they all had a fabulous time.

The group turned 80 in May 2023 and an amazing group camp at PGL was attended in April 23 – a massive thank you to Alison Yarwood for all the time and help she gave organising this event. Thank you to all the leaders that attended and kept the young people having fun and learning new skills.

We also held an 80[th] birthday party at the John Alker, well done to all the leaders / helpers who made this party possible and for the amazing buffet.

The band have also been growing in numbers and lots of fundraising events on the cards to go towards their trip to Disneyland Paris.

The Beaves and Cub sections merged in September 2023, a successful journey and this was all due to the leaders that made this happen and continue to do so.

Lots of trophies from the sections have also been awarded with yet again 3D coming out very well, they include Row Flag, Backwoods Cooking, Bowling Competition, Chess Competition, BST, Cardboard Canoe, Cub Mudder and Cub Sports day just to name a few. B.R.A.V.O to all.

I would like to thank all the Leaders and Young Leaders for all your dedication and hard work you all put into volunteering and this also includes the work that goes on behind the scenes with the trustees’ meetings. There has been lots of change in scouting in the past few years and this has required leaders to work a lot harder with more paperwork and courses, so thank you for all your patience and understanding with the changes.

Beavers Section Report 2023/2024

The past 12 months have been fun filled and exciting for our Beavers.

Starting with Beavers attending the Groups 80[th] Anniversary camp at PGL where they all got stuck into all the activities they had to offer.

Beavers also took part in the District St Georges day parade, and all looked so smart!

Over the past 12 months the Beavers have also attended Pets at home, Sale water park, Chill factor Snow Park.

The Beavers have gained so many badges with almost everything who has gone up to cubs gaining there bronze award.

In District events we attended the dominos competition and the district Christmas night out at Antz in you Pants in Altrincham.

In January we held a joint sleepover with another Beaver group from Wythenshawe and fun was had by all.

We are all so excited for the next year ahead with lots of activities and events already planned and ready to get stuck into!

A final Thank you to our brilliant leadership team who without this would not be possible!!!

A lot has happened to Powell Pack in this review period.

They have taken part in a variety of activities, trips, camps & gained lots of badges, seeing 10 gaining their Chief Scout Silver award- the highest award attainable in Cubs.

They have taken part in activities covering:-

The Scientist badge, Money skills badge, International badge, Fire safety, Backwoods cooking, Pioneering, Chefs badge, Remembrance day, Founders day, Judo, Martial arts, a band workshop & a Bingo night.

They had trips to :-

The pantomime at Christmas, Climbing at Rock up, adventures at Kickair & a visit to Christchurch – Church.

They took part in St Georges day parade, joint meetings at 5[th] Urmston with their cubs completing their athletes’ badge & the groups 80th celebration camp at PGL & a camp at 5[th] Urmston. Along with joining in with district activities, The Barbra hughes & Ashton Trophy, Chess competition & Skittle ball.

They said Goodbye In July 2023 to Becky AKA Akela after 28 years, starting as a Young leader & then leader. We would like to say a huge “Thank you” for all that Becky did during her time at 3D & wish her well in her new role as district Cub Leader.

Sept 2023 saw the amalgamation of Baden & Powell cub packs & Shahid taking on the role of Akela along with Adam, Alison, Ian & Dave.

Unfortunately, due to work commitments Shahid had to take a step back. Cath & rob were welcomed into the leadership team who have pulled together now comprising of Adam, Alison, Cath, Dave, Ian & Rob along with 3 superb young leaders.

Jan 2023 saw a county Badge design competition to design a badge for a crime prevention badge.

I am proud to say that it was won by Charlie – who’s badge is to be made & can be earned by cubs nationwide. - B.R.A.V.O Charlie.

Finally, “Thank you” to Adam, Cath, Dave, Ian, Rob & our young leaders for all their help , support & commitment .

The Scouts report

April, started off with our Group Camp at PGL. All had a great time, we also invested many of the new Scouts that had come up from Cubs whilst on the activities something they will never forget.

May, We all Celebrated our 80[th] anniversary

June, We took part in our District camping competition “The Row Flag” held at 5[th] Urmston HQ. The team worked very hard on showing There Scouting skills off and how it’s done by coming 1[st ] A big BRAVO to them all.

And they had taken place in the County cardboard canoe competition with there boat named “The Jammy Dodger” they did the full course without sinking. Well Done to Shelby, Lara, Anna, Beth, Sailing in it and also the rest of the Build team Marianne, Daisy & James.

Also taken part in the District Football comp. and came 2[nd] place that then put them through to the county comp. well Done to Hadley, Archie, Ben Jack, Beth, Hannah, Amy, Bailey. And a Special thank you to Marianne for joining 1D’s team as they didn’t have enough players. It ended up a very busy and successful month for them all.

July, As we Won The Row Flag we started July with the county camping competition. This took place at 5[th] Urmston’s HQ the team worked very hard over the weekend 2[nd] place a big BARVO to all the team.

Also, in July we when on a hike to Blackburn and invited 8[th] Flixton’s Scout troop to join us we had 28 Scouts hiking, and we invested 5 of our new Scouts too. It was a great day’s hike.

September, we took part in the County’s BST Hiking competition around Rivington pike for the first time. All of them gave 100% and never gave up. So much so the wore awarded the Team Spirit Award of the competition well done to the team

October, The country Chariot race. This was the first time we had completed in the race all the team had a great time we came 6[th] out of 40 which was brill for a first-time well-done Hadley, Archie, Ben C, Ben B, Bailey, George, Edward.

We also entered our District cooking competition held at our HQ this year the team worked really well together. And came a very close 2[nd] place well done to Anna, Hannah c, Daisy, Ben, James. And a big BARVO! For Elenor Orbell as she had helped by Joining 5[th] Urmston’s team because they only had 2 members turn up and needed help! And they ended up winning the competition witch both me and the other leaders send they wouldn’t have won without her help! Well done!

March, Winter camp at Bispham Scout camp we camped in the Lavvu’s which are 2 open sided huts that face each other with a fire pit in the middle to keep us warm this was the first time we have used these and was a completely different way to camp sleeping under the stars. The only lesson we learnt was to make sure next time to take plenty of dry wood with us.

We have also been to Hollinwood Scout Camp a few times as a work party on the site clearing areas planning trees and flowers doing our bit for the community of Scouting.

And plenty of hikes too..

3[rd] Davyhulme Explorers – Annual Report 2023/2024

I Hope this small snap shot helps. We had lots of plans for much more, but as you can understand, with Allan being absent for large periods of time, it was difficult to keep the plans and give the explorers the continuity they deserved. Much of the winter meetings were a little Ad-hoc depending on who could help on the evening. I am so very Grateful to all the leaders who helped us keep the Explorer pack keeping going and especially for Rob and Jo taking up the mantle and delivering a great program going forwards.

Band Report 2023 to 2024

The bands year has certainly been an exciting and hectic year!

The band performed at multiple parades and events including our district St Georges day parade and Remembrance Sunday Parade and providing the bugles for the sounding and last post – Which also ended up on ITV Regional News with some fab footage of the Bugle party and the band!

In October the band got the amazing chance to spend a day with Grenadier Guards in London, we got to see them perform in changing of the guards, have a talk about life in army service and we got to rehearse and march with them. It was a brilliant opportunity for those who attended.

In March we took our drummers down to Coventry where they got to take part in a Drumming workshop ran by the Royal Marines and the full band spent the weekend at Dunham Massey for our Annual Band Camp.

Back in May 2023 the band put in an Audition video for the chance to perform at Disneyland Paris and after a few weeks waiting, we found out we were successful to perform in May 2024.

Over the past 12 months the Band have threw in all efforts in raising money for this amazing trip, all together raising almost £10,000.

To do this we have held an 80s Disco, Summer Fair, A Concert at Urmston Grammer with the amazing Don’t stop queen now tribute act, fund raising concerts at the Trafford centre and a quiz night.

Urmston District also honoured us with a £1000 donation.

3[rd] Davyhulme also very kindly donated £3000 towards the cost of travel for the trip of which we are extremely thankful for!

Our members are working so hard towards this performance, and I know it is going to be amazing!

It’s been a Jam-Packed year, and we cannot wait for the next coming to finally perform at Disney and see what amazing opportunities come our way

As always, the band would be nothing without its amazing volunteers and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for there hard work and dedication!!
