Arnesby Village Hall Trust

Annual update to the Parish Council

The Trust has had a busy year, following very successful fund raising for grants to help with refurbishments. We were successful with grants from the Big Lottery Community Fund, Severn Trent, ACRE, Harborough District Council, The Parish Council (thank you) and The Florence Higgins Trust, alongside our own fundraising events. In total we received £54,216 in grants and spent £62,650 on the work using our own funds for the balance.

Work to date:-

In addition Trustees cleared and made further shelving in the small store once all the playgroup equipment had been removed – this has made the large store much easier to keep tidy.

We had teething problems with the solar panel installation which caused us to have a very large bill that we were not expecting. After a lot of blame between the installers and the suppliers, we ascertained that the installation had been done incorrectly and it was rectified very simply. Bruce Kerr then had a battle to prove that we had been overcharged – which was caused by a number of issues including the Smart meter and the installation. We have now accepted £500 compensation from the installer as the only other recourse was to the Small Claims Court – and we were only able to prove a £600 discrepancy in the costs compared to our previous costs.

Work to be done in the future

can do UPVC to match existing. We have obtained quotes and it is likely to cost £5000.

Funding

At the moment we have £14,000 in the bank, but the Trust agreed that we need to keep at least £10,000 in the bank for emergencies and in case we don’t get sufficient revenue to cover our costs.

If the Parish Council could contribute to the replacement of the windows it would help to finish most of the major work that is required to get the hall up to a good standard .

We are currently subsidising the running of the hall through fund raising activities, despite having raised our fees this year.

We’ve had some successful events like a cheese and wine (which was a thank you to our funders, not a fund raiser), a sourdough coffee morning which raised £400 and are continuing running the village Lottery which seems to be popular and raises £1000 annually.
